Dell PERC H800 commandline RAID monitoring tools
We're looking for tools to be used in monitoring the PERC H800 arrays on
a set of database servers running CentOS 5.5.
We've installed most of the OMSA (Dell monitoring) suite.
Our current alerting is happening through SNMP, though it's a bit hit or
miss (we apparently missed a couple of earlier predictive failure alerts
on one drive).
OMSA conflicts with mega-cli, though we may

Remote-logging nginx? (or other non-syslog-enabled stuff)
I'm looking for suggestions as to a good general method of
remote-logging services such as nginx or anything else which doesn't
support syslog natively.
I'm aware that there's an nginx patch, and we're evaluating this. It
may be the way we fly.
However there are other tools which may not have a patch for which
remote logging would be useful. If there's a general soution

CentOS and Dell MD3200i / MD3220i iSCSI w/ multipath
We've been wrestling with this for ... rather longer than I'd care to admit.
Host / initiator systems are a number of real and virtualized CentOS 5.5
boxes. Storage arrays / targets are Dell MD3220i storage arrays.
CentOS is not a Dell-supported configuration, and we've had little helpful
advice from Dell. There's been some amount of FUD in that Dell don't seem

Safe/sane tempfile creation?
I'm used to Debian-based distros which have a tempfile(1) utility for
safely and sanely creating temporary files.
There isn't a comperable utility for RHEL/CentOS systems.
I've been exercising Google-fu looking for a good robust tempfile
generation idiom, but haven't turned one up yet.
Hence this appeal to the lazyweb.

Any reliable way to determine LVM snapshot creation time?
We utilize LVM snapshots for some periodic maintenance. They're
manually created and, usually, manually destroyed.
But not always.
So there's now a nightly script monitoring for open snapshots.
Which raises the question of when a given snapshot was created.
Absent good practices of, say, using sudo to create snapshots (leaving a
/var/log/secure message), is there any reasonably

TIP for broken ARIN whois
This works for me on Centos 5.6. It may assist newcomers to the Linux
world of Centos.
whois 51.51.51.51
produces a normal and conventional display of data.
However since ARIN, the North American registrar of IP addresses,
"modernised" its WHOIS processing, a query to
whois 64.64.64.64
will produce a one line summary of possible matches, which always
includes ARIN, but omits the

Setting up eth0 with address 0.0.0.0
Hello,
I'm following instructions in
http://www.austintek.com/LVS/LVS-HOWTO/HOWTO/LVS-HOWTO.LVS-DR.html#route_on_non_ip_interface
to allow my xen guest real hosts to serve virtual IP's behind LVS
without having to allocate real public IP addresses for each such xen
guest.
I have eth1 connected via a "back-end" switch to the eth1/xenbr1 of
the xen host and the other physical

Server hangs on CentOS 5.5
Hi --
I'm running a server which is usually stable, but every
once in a while it hangs. The server is used as a file
store using NFS and to run VMware machines.
I don't see anything in /var/log/messages or elsewhere
to indicate any problem or offer any clue why the system
was hung.
Any suggestions where I might look for a clue?

One resource immediately after another
I need to apply three resources one immediatelly after another. It''s a
ifdown/ifup commands, and command to generate /etc/network/interfaces file.
I need to do ifdown, then rebuild interfaces, then ifup. I try to add
simple relationship, but in this case some File resources are trying to be
applied between ifdown and ifup. So they can''t connect to Puppet master to

I''m replacing this box with a newer one and have set it up with Gentoo

Centos 6 - Networking: Some Queries
Hello all
I am setting up a Centos 6 machine with one network card & one onboard
network port. Both are recognized & work. Onboard Network port is unused
yet, but is required for dedicated access to LTSP LAN, which would allow
older PIII machines to boot from this system. I have installed LTSP but
again Networking seems to be the problem area, as the clients won't boot

2.6.14 - HTB/SFQ QoS broken?
Hello,
First of all, I already contacted Martin Devera, the developer of HTB, and
he told me to search for help on this mailinglist, thus I am describing
my problems here now...
I am kind of seriously annoyed by QoS as I have been trying for over 3 years
to get it working properly - first I did not understand how it works, then
it seemed not to work, then it was working perfectly for half a

restarting static-routes-ipv6
I want to change the contents of my /etc/sysconfig/static-routes-ipv6
and NOT restart the network.
Is there a way to do this???
I know about ifup and ifdown for interfaces, but what about routing (and
IP6 at that).

Virtual Interface
Hi Guys,
I want to create multiple virtual interfaces on a system running linux 2.6.
The main requirment being, to assign unique MAC address fo each of the
virtual interfaces.
I need to know, if this is possible and will really appriciate if someone
can provide me pointer in this direction.
Thanks a lot.

Network scripts ifup-post
Hello,
since updating to Centos 7.4 the ifup-post script in
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts does not behave as it did before the update.
I use it to configure additional routes via? /sbin/ifup-local with the
parameter of the interface being upped, but it seems to pass only 'lo'
as interface name. Before it passed correctly 'eth0:0' of the virtual
interface.

Unable to get dummy interfaces to persist across reboots in CentOS 8
Requirement is a very strong word , but you should consider using it and here is a short demo why:
- By default, RHEL uses NetworkManager to configure and manage network connections, and the /usr/sbin/ifup and /usr/sbin/ifdown scripts use NetworkManager to process ifcfg files in the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ directory.
[root at system ~]# ls -l /usr/sbin/ifup

Hard-set network via ifup scripts...
Anyone know off the top of their head the "right" way to hard set a
link automatically to 100Mbps Full Duplex, etc using the ifup or ifcfg
files?
Don't see options in the scripts that might cover this, but maybe
there's a more elegant way to do it than to do something in rc.local or
hack up the ifup files myself...
