Broadcom Wifi Problem
I have a Broadcom 802.11b/g hardware on my dual-boot laptop.
Note first that in the WinXP partition, the wifi makes DHCP
connections to my router with no problem. Since this
was not working in my new CentOS 6 partition, and
remembering that there was a driver problem with the
old Fedora partition it replaced, I followed instructions

Hi,
I just installed Redhat 7.2 with samba-2.2.1a on a linux machine. I
connected the linux machine to
a wireless router, which is connected to a hub. I run WinXP Pro PC which
is connected to the same
hub. There is no problem for me to connect to the samba server from
machines attached to the wireless
router, ( one Mac OS X & one Win98), but I can't connect to the samba

intel wifi and bridging - have u done it?
changed mode from router to switch on 2 Linux and 2 WinXP nodes.
configured Linux bridging per the website and that worked for
hardwired ethernet over cat5. For the wifi wireless xp clients, i
didnt have any luck. Maybe i did something wrong, but it seems so
easy to create a bridge in xp. highlight 2 or more nics, right click
and choose bridge. Did it numerous tmes years ago, but not sure w

virtual wlan0
HI!
My goal is to run a virtualized access point with hostapd.
Is it possible to use the host's WIFI interface in a VM created with libvirt? I
can add the interface in bridged mode but it appears just as normal eth1 without
wireless extensions.
Ciao, Michael.

Anonymous access to Samba share with Windows XP Home
Hi,
I've searched the HOWTO and searched with Google for an answer to my
problem but to no avail. I hope it's not too obvious.
I have a Linux box running Samba 3.0.4 and a Windows XP Home box on my
local network. I would like to share the home directories on the linux
box and I would also like a share that is accessible anonymously with
no password.
My smb.conf contains the

That''s weird. Line 296 is just a call to FormatMessage().
Folks on the mailing list - could this be a wide character issue? Buffer

[Bridge] Misbehaving bridge...
I'm trying to bridge a wired network and a wireless network, but I'm
having some trouble. No traffic seems to be passing through the
bridge. When I issue a "showmacs" command to brctl, I am able to see
MAC addresses from both networks. I am also able to ping both networks
from the bridge machine. When I issue a "showstp" command to brctl, the

Following advice I received elsewhere yesterday,
I modified Linux start up files (level 3) with
mount -t smbfs to connect to a shared directory in
WinXP. On WinXP, both the directory and the share
permissions give full control to Everyone. On
Linux, the both /mnt and /mnt/linuxShare have
drwxrwxrwx.
As root, on the Linux side I have full control in

Strange case of partial matching in .[ - possible bug / wrong documentation?
Hi all,
This occurred in R-2.11.0 (WinXP).
The R-help page of .[ says that:
"Character indices can in some circumstances be partially matched (see
pmatch) to the names or dimnames of the object being subsetted (but never
for subassignment). Unlike S (Becker et al p. 358)), R has never used
partial matching when extracting by [, and as from R 2.7.0 partial matching

Have you disconnected all your usb hardware before trying the repair? I've repaired my box more times than I can count and the only time I've seen lots of hdd activity is when I had some weird hardware attached.

[Bridge] Getting dynamic ip address for a bridge
Hello,
I how an embedded processor that needs to act as a bridge between a wireless
and wired network. I have managed to bring up the bridge fine. I can also
bring up the bridge with a static ip address. However I can not figure out
how to bring up the bridge with a dynamic ip address.
Is it possible to for a bridge to get a dynamically assigned ip address?

Roaming Profile not found - replacement PDC
Howdy everyone:
Here's an interesting one:
I have joined a machine to the domain, and I log on. Then, I get a
message to the effect that the user's roaming profile couldn't be
[loaded or found?], and a local profile will be used instead (and
actually this also fails, but is not the point of my question... I don't
think).
Background
