nfs timeout
hi,
I use automounter to mount to many hosts
/net/<hostname>/dir
When the hostname is unavaliable it seems NFS gets stuck. I would like to
set a NFS timeout (say 60 secs). If not available then error. I need to use
hardmount but is there such a thing as NFS client timeout?

NFS hard mount
Is there a tunable to set NFS hard mount time out? For instance, if the
server becomes unavailable for extended amount of time, say 1 hour. I would
like to timeout after 30 secs.
(Soft mount isn't an option, BTW)

ANNOUNCE: cifs-utils release 4.6 available for download
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
It has been a while since I've cut a new release for cifs-utils. This
one has more visible changes than were in the last few releases. Major
highlights:
- - documentation additions for the fsc option
- - mount.cifs deals with _netdev, mand and nomand options correctly now
- - a change in how mount.cifs handles the MS_MANDLOCK flag. It used to

Persistent NFS Caching
Has anybody got persistent NFS caching to work after 5.3 update
removed the tech preview?
I have cachesfilesd installed & running and using nfs-utils with fsc
patched back in but it appears to not be working, any pointers?

compiling python
Hello,
I would like to compile python 2.7.3 for centos and was wondering if there
were any instructions I should follow. I would like to keep the standard
python the way it is. I would like to compile to /opt. Any tips or ideas
would be much appreciated.

Sharing a caching NFS mount with samba?
I am trying to set up a caching link between two points, that can be shared
with windows and *nix. In both locations, I have linux-based servers with
data, which have caching NFS mounts (that is, mount -t nfs -o fsc, with
cachefilesd). These mounts are working correctly and I have tested the
cache locally to much success.
What I have not been able to get working is sharing those mounts with

maximum number of mounts
What is the maximum number of NFS mounts per client? I have an instance
where there are over 400 mount points using autofs. I was wondering if
there is a downside to that.

placing x11 libraries in an alternate location
we have close to 50 servers. I would like to have X11 libraries (and
devel). Instead of installing them one by one on all servers, I would like
to have them in a central NFS location and have my app pick them up like
that. Is it possible to do this with yum/rpm ?

compile paramaters
hi,
I am trying to find out what compile flags and environment variables were
used when compiling the python package. Is there an easy way of figuring
this out? perhaps a website which shows the RPM specs?

Text File Corruption Writing from Windows to Linux NFS Share.
I am running a Windows 2003 Server with Microsoft Services for UNIX (SFU)
installed which is serving NFS shares to a Redhat Enterprise Workstation
v5 Linux machine which is running Samba 3.0.33-3.7.el5. There is also a
Solaris 5.6 workstation serving NFS shares. All of these are mounted on
the RHEL machine and are visible to Samba. I can read and copy anything
from any share using Windows

nfsvers and nfs-utils-1.3.0-0.48.el7
We encountered a weird problem today, and I thought some of you might
like to hear the solution.
The underlying change was listed in the 7.4 changelog, so it's not a
bug, but it may drive you buggy.
The majority of our HPC cluster nodes run CentOS 7, though the exact
patch levels vary from node to node. None is older than 7.3, but a few
newer nodes were kickstarted right to 7.4.
