Xen / KVM CentOS-5 How To Document
Does anyone have any idea where I can locate a 'GOOD' how-to document on
implementing Xen and/or KVM on a CentOS-5.3 system? I'm currently running
VMware Server 2.0.2, but I would like to make the move to the open source
virtualization - if possible. What I found is somewhat short on the
networking piece. It doesn't matter if it's TUI or GUI.
Thanks,

How Do I ...
All,
I've got a machine running CentOS 5.3 and this machine has got 2 -
built-in 1 Gig NICs and a expansion card with 4 - 100 Meg NICs. For
whatever reason at install time, it made the expansion card eth0 through
eth3 and the internal ports eth4 and eth5. And by default the 'machine' is
known on the network by the eth0 NIC, so my throughput is limited to 100
Mb. How can I force

VMware Server 2.0.1 On CentOS 5
It's my understanding that CentOS is a carbon copy of Red Hat - with the
exception of the art work. Assuming that this is true, the support matrix
for VMware Server 2.0.1 states Red Hat 5.1. I cannot seem to locate a
CentOS 5.1 x86-64 copy. I can get a copy of 5.3 and 5.4. If I take this
route, what should I expect running VMware 2.0.1?
Thanks,

Server Build Example
I'm coming from the Fedora arena and I want to build, what I would call, a
production server. I'm to the point where I don't want to upgrade every
6-months. I'm running Oracle DB 11g, a Tomcat/JBoss hybrid application
server, and several other server type functions.
Is there an example of building a server that boots into init3?
Thanks,

preferred XEN dom0 OS
Hi,
What is the preferred OS to use with XEN, as the dom0 host?
We primarely us CentOS (currently 5.6) but it seems that the native
XEN that comes with CentOS is a bit behind.
What is the preferred OS to run on the dom0''s?

CentOS 5.4 x86_64 and HPLIP-3.9.12
I recently purchased a HP Officejet Pro 8500 (A909a) and it's ethernet
attached. It's been configured and works perfectly from WinXP, Win Vista,
Windows 7, and Fedora 11 x86_64. However, on my machine running CentOS 5.4
x86_64 I can't get the configuration to work so that it prints duplex
(2-sided). The HP Setup appears to be working from the command line, but

CentOS 6 domU on Debian 6 dom0 not working
Hi all,
Has anyone managed to get CentOS 6 domU (i.e. guest) working on a Debian 6 do0?
Both OS''s are 32bit and I''m running XEN 4.0.1 with HVM support.
A CentOS 5.6 domU works fine on this very same server though.
When I start CentOS 6, I get the following error:
newusaxen:~# xm create -c /xen/genocide.cfg
Using config file "/xen/genocide.cfg".

correct steps to add XEN bridge to Debian squeeze?
Hi all,
Does anyone know what the correct steps are to add a XEN bridge, let''s
say xenbr0 to Debian Squeeze?
I have added the following to /etc/network/interfaces
# XEN Bridge
auto xenbr0
iface xenbr0 inet manual
bridge ports eth0
bridge_stp off
bridge_fd 0
And then rebooted the server but brctl show still shows eth0 as bridge:

using a Laptop as a KVM console?
Hi all,
Has anyone seen something like this before:
I want to use a laptop as a KVM console. Basically when a technician
goes to one of our datacentres, or clients he has to look for a free
LCD, keyboard & mouse to connect to a server (no network access,
reinstall, troubleshoot failed kernel / HDD, etc). And then hopefully
there's an open power socker in that cabinet.
So I'm

VT-x not found..
Hi Everyone,
I upgraded my CentOS 5.5 to Xen 3.4.2 using this guide:
http://www.syntaxtechnology.com/2010/01/upgrade-xen-3-0-on-centos-5-4-x86_64-to-xen-3-4-2/
Now, using the new kernel that it gave me, the system doesn''t seem to be
able to detect vt-x..
In virt-manager, Local Install Media and Network Boot are greyed out..
Any ideas?
Thanks

best practices in using shared storage for XEN Virtual Machines and auto-failover?
Hi all,
Can anyone pleas tell me what would be best practice to use shared
storage with virtual machines, especially when it involved high
availability / automated failover between 2 XEN servers?
i.e. if I setup 2x identical XEN servers, each with say 16GB RAM, 4x
1GB NIC''s, etc. Then I need the xen domU''s to auto failover between
the 2 servers if either goes down (hardware
