ffmpeg and zoneminder install problems
CentOs zoneminder users, I have been trying to install zoneminder on Centos 5.3 (2.6.18-128.1.16.el5xen) and have hit a brick wall with ffmpeg which zoneminder has as a dependancy. There were no rpm's in centos or rpmforge so I have followed the instructions on the zoneminder website for a CentOs install. I have posted a note on the zoneminder list, but have not been able to get any takers

Newer version of ffmpeg for EL6?
We're trying to build a rich media website, and will need to re-encode the video content with ffmpeg. Unfortunately, the ffmpeg version that comes with the most common repos are rather out of date. As in 0.6.5 vs 2.21 being the most current version. However, ffmpeg looks to be a pretty thorny thing to compile with all the options we need. It appears that the FFMPEG with rpmfusion for

errors on multimedia guidance for x86_64
I have a fresh install of 5.4 x86_64 from a dvd .iso. All has worked well for several days, including kvm and WinXP running in a vm. Decided it was time to get the multimedia stuff up and running so I could listen to music CDs and watch DVD movies while working. I followed the guidance on the "Tips and Tricks" page for multimedia. Had no problem with the "priorities" or the

Making the video plugin + patched MPlayer work with other backends
Hi, I'm wondering how I can make my patched up mplayer work with other MPlayer frontends, such as mplayer-plugin, GMPlayer, SMPlayer and KMPlayer. When I play a video using mplayer normally with: mplayer video.ext, It detects the compiz video output and works fine, however when it is called from other players (AFAIK, it just creates a window then asks mplayer to display in it) with mplayer

.GSM -> .WAV (or ,MP3) Conversion
Hey there, I'm trying to convert some call recordings from asterisk we have in .gsm format to something I can pipe through ffmpeg - wav would be good, mp3 would be amazing! I've been trying playing with sox but I don't seem to be getting too far with 1239101491.30.gsm -ql -r 64000 -t wav 1239101491.30.conv.wav resample as ffmpeg borks at it: tim at freee-meee:~/dmc/call

Zoneminder
I have a few dvr's that I am contemplating converting to Zoneminder (don't know any other app) and would prefer to use CentOS over fedora obviously but the only rpm I see exists for Fedora. I don't want the hassle of manually compiling this, as we have our own config mgmt. Anyone using this rpm (srpm recompiled) in CentOS or know of a solution that exists? Thanks! jlc

MP4/H.264 codec for Firefox?
Hello, I am trying to get MP4/H.264 playback in Firefox to work on my CentOS laptop (for vimeo). I installed the gstreamer plugins as described here: https://wiki.centos.org/TipsAndTricks/MultimediaOnCentOS7 (No, I did not install Flash, VLC and all the other stuff. I only want HTML5 MP4 playback..) I enabled the nux repos. I did install all available gstreamer plugins, i.e. -good -bad

Status of RPMFusion repo for CentOS 5 and 6 ?
Hi, I have to maintain (and eventually beef up) desktop clients in public libraries running CentOS 5 and 6. The hardware is still OK, though sometimes really old, so the least evil will be to keep CentOS 5 on the old machines until that version is EOL. I've been using CentOS 5 as my main system somewhere between 2007 and 2009. At the time the RPMForge was my favorite third-party repository,

CentOS 8 Gstreamer and Mplayer
Hey Y'all, What replaced Gstreamer and Mplayer in CentOS 8. RPM finder finds both for CentOS 6 and 7 but not 8. There must be a replacement for them but I don't know what. I appear to be having codec issues but, not knowing what's supposed to handle the jobs that the two programs used to do, I don't know where to look for a commercial set of codecs compatible with the

Filmon HDI Player
Hello, wonder if anyone can help here - perhaps a winetrick (tried DIVX - doesn't help, and slight problems with Ubuntu 9.10, like some other Linux programs have). I have tried to install a MS Windows program to watch TV, films etc. over the Internet from filmon.com. The program gives a "network problem" message after trying to authenticate the log-in name and password. There is no

security cameras
I heard about some inexpensive security cameras which get their power through the same cat5 cable which delivers the data/pictures (which would simplify wiring tremendously). Does anyone know about these? Do they work with Linux, particularly CentOS? tnx 4 tips.
