Centos6 Migration glitch - ZFS-FUSE
Folks
My experiments with installing ZFS-FUSE in a Centos 6 system reveal
behavior different from that observed in Centos 5.6.
The version of ZFS-FUSE is that provided on the EPEL repository, and
was installed on a 32-bit machine. I use it because of its
deduplication facility.
In Centos 5.6, the facility worked as advertised.
In Centos 6, however, the system "hung" in

Samba problem
Hello,
My only hard drive failed on a private server so I had to replace it and
reinstall Centos 6.5 and Samba.
My smb.conf file is OK according to "testparm".
I configured smb and nmb, with chkconfig, to start when the system boots.
After the system boots if I do "service nmb status" I get the response
"nmbd dead but pid file exists".
I can delete the pid file

startup script
I made the samba startup scipt and named it smb,..and placed it in the
/etc/rc.d/init.d dir, and then next (exactly like it says)
chmod 777 smb
chkconfig --add smb
chkconfig --level 345 smb on
at this point i ran:
/etc/rc.d/init.d/smb start
I get the following error..

samba dhcp issue
I have sort of the same problem that other people have reported with
nmb. Only in my case i'm running dhcp client. It appears that the ip
address is not being assigned quickly enough as this is what nmb
complains about in the log:no local interfaces. Once i login to kde and
su to root in a term session, I can issue the restart command and it
works very nicely:). So what,if any, is the

Running smb without nmb? (Linux Suse 8.1 feature)
I recently upgraded my Linux distro to SuSE 8.1 which
came w/samba 2.2.5.
A feature of the upgrade was that it 'split' the startup
script for samba from 1 script for _smb_ & _nmb_ to 2 scripts.
Now the prologue (used by insserv to create the numbered startup
scripts with dynamic numbering based on dependencies in the prologues
of all the startup scripts for a given run level) says

Centos6 - Logwatch not mailing on 64bit
Folks
Logwatch is doing its thing properly on my 32-bit servers, delivering
the report by mail to my root account once a day sometime around 3:30am.
On the 64-bit systems, no mail is occurring. From the "cron" log on
a 64-bit system, there are lines like:
cron-20110821:Aug 21 03:36:23 XXX run-parts(/etc/cron.daily)[9727]:

Centos6 and samba and nmblookup
Folks
I've installed Centos6 and Samba. I noticed that the program
"nmblookup" and a few other Samba related programs, documented in the
RHEL6 guide, are not included in Centos6. A search using YUM also
did not find "nmblookup", using the repositories:
base, centosplus, contrib, cr, epel, extras, updates, virtualbox
Has its functionality been moved elsewhere, or

Centos6(64) SSH sessions fail irregularly
Folks
I just installed a centos6 system on a 64-bit box. My methods
include remote administration, using ssh from a windows machine. I
use this method successfully on several Centos5 boxes and one Centos6
(32bit) machine as well. However, on this latest one, I get
inconsistent results with ssh. This is a server, SELINUX is
disabled, it's command line only, and I have installed

dhcpd frequent renewals
Folks
This might be the wrong place to ask, but I don't know where to turn.
My internal home network, including wireless, is controlled by a
Centos6 server, which provides dhcpd services, along with NAT. I
have DHCPD configured with the addresses 192.168.155.200 through
192.168.155.254 as the range for dynamic allocations. The
default-lease time is 1800 seconds, the maximum is 3600

The 2.04b rpm for rh60 ships with and installs a config file for logrotate

NetworkManger trying to start Supplicant
Folks
In Centos 6.5, I am getting the message in the log file every few minutes:
NetworkManager: <info> Trying to start the supplicant...
There is no wireless on that computer, but there are two NICs,
because it is my home gateway. Is there some tweak that can prevent
this message?
The installation is a relatively new one, so all packages are "up-to-date".

dhcpd frequent renewals
Rob
DNS service for my clients is provided by my gateway server, the same
machine as the DHCPD server. I think that's what the "option
domain-name-servers" line does. This allows me to provide 192.168
addresses to them when they try to access anything inside the house
with a name. If it's not a locally defined name, BIND forwards the
request to the internet.

Samba doesn't work after upgrading
I just upgraded my system to Fedora Core 7 from Core 6 and I find that
now Samba doesn't seem to be working for me anymore. If I try to
connect from my laptop computer running Windows XP I just get one shared
folder that has only a few subfolders (probably because offline files is
turned on). If I try to connect by using the IP address (\\192.168.0.5)
it tells me that it's not accessible

Joining Linux to Windows 2000 domain
Hello, I am new to Linux, Samba, and actually servers in general. I am
attempting to set up a Linux file server and join it to a Windows 2000
domain. All I want to be able to do is get files from the linux file server
and put files on it. I do not want it to be the domain controller.
I join the domain using: net join -S 10.10.10.40 -UAdministrator%password
It tells me that I have joined

No. The error is not caused by anything else listening on 137.
