CentOS 7/GNOME 3 customise top panel
Hi, Is there any way to customise the top panel in CentOS 7 with GNOME 3 (which I recently tried for the first time)? Specifically, I want to add "application launchers", as it will make start-up faster than the standard alternatives. (Because you can move the mouse directly to the right place - you don't have to carry out another action, wait for icons or menu items to pop up,

Using R under Ubuntu...
Morning all: Coming straight to the point. Switched from XP to Ubuntu Linux. Followed the steps outlined on the website to install a current version of R to my machine. Seems to have worked OK, but the process doesn't install it to the desktop. The notes don't go into that part of it, so I'm seeking some advice from others more experienced on how to take the last couple of steps

Problem with gnome
Hi all, I am using Centos 4.1 with Gnome and my updates are OK (When I do yum update, I have nothing anymore) Normally, with GNOME there's a task bar in the bottom of the screen. If we open an application and we minimize its window, it is always avalaible in this task bar. There are other things in this task bar : a button on the left which is used to minimize all the opened windows and

Shortcuts not appearing in gnome panel drawers
I'm trying to trace why launchers created by wine due to a program installation are not appearing in the menus on my system. The launchers appear to have the correct contents, but for some reason gnome-panel is not adding them to my menus. Does anyone know how to run the relavent gnome tools with options to see what's happening when gnome reads these launchers. Keep in mind that there

change gnome back to default settings
Some how I have changed something such that the command line: gconftool-2 -t string --set /desktop/gnome/background/picture_filename /usr/share/backgrounds/images/other.jpg does not change my background any longer. Apps moving to laptop display when switching KVM
So I installed CentOS Stream 9 on a new Lenovo T14 Gen 4 Intel. I have a 4x1 HDMI KVM with external monitor. When switching the KVM, apps move between displays / workspaces in erratic ways. More specifically, when switching out, apps on the external display usually move to the laptop display. This sorta makes sense for a laptop with an external display. When the external display is

GNOME menu entries for wine run games
I have been trying to add a launcher to the gnome menu for some of my wine games, but I have found that when I add them to the menu the games complain about missing files, I assume because it is looking for the rest of the game files in the directory that the launcher is in. This doesn't happen when I run the same command within the games directory they work fine. I used to have this problem

R 2.15.2 still missing two files useful with the X11 icon patch
Congrats on getting 2.15.2 out on schedule. Debian builds have been uploaded. It is my understanding that Phil's patch for the X11 logo -- so promimently featured as the first item in the NEWS file for the release -- offers more when two extra files are supplied. I have supplied these for the Debian test release, for our 2.15.1-* releases and again now. We install these files as

Newer version of Gnome?
I have 2.8.0 from the base repro. I am running yumex with the Plus, DAG, kbsingh, and jpackage repros. None of which offer a newer version of Gnome. I am talking about a 'deficiency' I am having with gnome, and one responder that does not have these problems is on 2.14.2

Gnome Taskbar(s)
Question: All the newer Gnome distributions seem to configure themselves with two small "taskbars" (panels, I guess) one at the top and one at the bottom. I prefer the older scheme with one larger one (usually) at the bottom. When I install Centos5 in the near future I'm going to want to be able to restore the old-style panels. Anybody know what I need to change to make it work

Using R --gui=GNOME
Hi, Is it possible to make R start not from terminal with option --gui=GNOME? Now if in the launcher preferences checkbox run from terminal is not checked, R with option --gui=GNOME doesn't start. If started with checked checkbox, i.e. from terminal, besides R, terminal window also appears, but it is of no use. Yet if it is closed, the R window closes together. Is this a feature, or is

Disable auto window maximize
Job #1 for me with CentOS 7 is to disable the automatic window maximization. Some googling found this command: $ gsettings set org.gnome.mutter auto-maximize false No such schema 'org.gnome.mutter' and this: $ gsettings set orh.gnome.shell.overrides edge-tiling false but that had no visible effect. I couldn't find anything under Applications->documentation and I didn't see
