how do I prevent gnome_panel from starting up? once its started I can do "gnome-session-remove gnome_panel" But I dont want it to startup at all. How can I do that? jerry

Some how I have changed something such that the command line: gconftool-2 -t string --set /desktop/gnome/background/picture_filename /usr/share/backgrounds/images/other.jpg does not change my background any longer. Question: All the newer Gnome distributions seem to configure themselves with two small "taskbars" (panels, I guess) one at the top and one at the bottom.
