boot device
Hi,
I am trying to create a guest machine on xen virtualized environment and
install rhel on it by booting from cdrom.
I face a issue in booting device. I gave boot order as hd,cdrom. When doing
maiden installation, it will find nothing in hard disk and boots from cd.
Once installation is completed and when it boots next time it boots from
hard disk. It is the expected behaviour.
But it fails to

err:module:map_image
Hi there,
I'm trying to get the game Halflife working with Wine.
I downloaded the latest Wineversion with CVS.
I built it with :
# ./configure --prefix=/usr/wine --enable-opengl
# make depend && make && make install
Then I insert the halflife cdrom and do:
# mount /mnt/cdrom
# cd /mnt/cdrom
# wine SETUP.EXE
It loads up the Halflife install wizard (progressbar goes from 0 to

kvm virtual server boot order
The boot order issue
http://osdir.com/ml/libvir-list/2009-08/msg00398.html
resolved with the code changes specified by
http://www.redhat.com/archives/libvir-list/2009-August/msg00340.html
seems to suggest that hard disks, cdroms, floppy devices (since they are
all disks) are ordered primarily by virtual bus type as encountered in the
domain xml. This indicates that there can exist a

ata device but for a soundcard
I am looking for an ATA like device but instead of VOIP to analog phone
I want VOIP to low level audio out. Something that looks like a sound card
output.
I know I can use cheap PC's but that then you have HD's to setup etc...
HD failures etc...
Anyone know of something like that?

Bug#595531: xen-utils-common: boot="d" does not boot from CD (documentation issue?)
Package: xen-utils-common
Version: 4.0.0-1
Severity: normal
This is an offshoot of Bug#588888, but is really a separate issue.
It appears that with hvmloader, the disk device names presented to the
vm must by from a specific set that hvmloader knows how to emulate.
Names like hd[a-c] and sd[a-c] work, but sr0 does not. While this makes
sense, when you think about what hvmloader is doing, it is

libvirt/virsh change boot order
Hello, hope all are well.
Am I missing something?
If I add a cdrom and change boot order in a running vm with virsh edit, I have to shutdown the vm and restart to see the change in boot order. I can not just restart the vm via reboot inside the vm or virsh reboot vm. I don't see anything under /var/lib/libvirt/qemu/saved where I might expect conflict if I was battling against a saved

Re: Mount URL as cdrom/iso KVM/QEMU
Hi Daniel,
I have noticed that it will fail exactly as you said if <cdrom> is first in the boot order, if <hd> is first in the boot order the XML validates and it starts as usual.
first in log except below is with cdrom set to first in boot order, second is with hd set first.

Guests ignoring config changes
I have a libvirt/kvm setup on a Gentoo system which I've been using
happily for a couple of years. Recently, after a round of updates, I
started encountering all sorts of strange behavior, which I'll mostly
skip for now... My current issue is that guest domains appear to be
ignoring changes made with 'virsh edit <domain>'.
Two examples: My primary desktop VM is crashing on

Quicken 2000 install fails with insufficient temp disk space
I'm a newbie to WINE.
I'm running WINE 0.0.20050211-1 with kernel 2.6.10 and
the Debian distribution.
I CD to /cdrom and issue the command wine install.exe
and the Quicken 2000 install starts.
I immediately get a message from Quicken that there is
insufficient temp space to perform the install.
I have no clue about how to proceed. If someone has a
HOWTO to get Quicken 2000 working, that

howto use kvm-amd on centos 5.1
Is there a way to use kvm-amd on centos 5.1?
I dont want to mess with XEN. I want the hardware virtualization that is
on my AMD chip.
I played with putting 2.6.24 and centos 5.1 on my AMD laptop, got
kvm-amd and that works. However
I want to put this on my desktop that is running 2.6.18-53.1.14.el5. Is
there a way or do I just
wave to use 2.6.24 or 25.
Thanks,
Jerry

Problem booting Microsoft Windows KVM virtual machine
Hi all,
I'm having problems with a vm's startup, I cloned the entire disk of a
Windows 2000 with dd on a drbd device, that disk was configured with two
partitions. I'm able to see all the partitions contents by using kpartx
and mount them:

drbd0p2 : 0 285567360 /dev/drbd0 202751520

lots of disk activity keep process from responding
hi all
I have something like 3000 log files in a directory (from data collection).
At 4am in the morning cron runs a script of mine that essentiallly trims
all files in that directory back to a certain size.
Basically does a "tail -c XXXX filename > tmp_filename"
I have noticed that only around the 4am-4:15 time frame when the trim is
happening does my
other process log connection

unofficial ext3 and ext4 compare
I have something like 300G I routinely backup.
This includes some large 12Gig images and other files.
I had been using ext3 on an external USB disk for part of the process.
Under ext3 doing "rsync -a /home /mnt/external_back/backup.jun.27.2011"
it took 200 minutes.
I took the same computer, same external HD and reformatted it for ext4
(mkfs.ext4 /dev/sdd1).
I then started the same

[PATCH] Default to IDE when VirtIO isn't available
Previously we used SCSI when VirtIO wasn't available. KVM's SCSI support is not
as mature as its IDE support, and SCSI isn't supported at all in RHEV.
