centos 6 (what else? :) :)
Hi all! My thanks to the Centos team for continuing to slave away on C6 even with all the distractions!!! Just did a test install on my eeepc 901 (on an external drive, til I'm comfortable with it) and find that it doesn't seem to know how to talk to the ralink 2860 wireless chipset. A few months back I did a test install of Scientific Linux 6 and as I recall it (I may be

Eliminating duplicate photos
I've seen fslint and fdupes recommended for this in CentOS, but neither seem to be available as packages. Is anyone using either under CentOS-5.6? It seems that they are available in the rpmfusion-free repository, but as far as I can see this is not functioning with CentOS at present. -- Timothy Murphy e-mail: gayleard /at/ eircom.net tel: +353-86-2336090, +353-1-2842366 s-mail: School of

ffmpeg
This is annoying. I've been trying to get motion working correctly on CentOS 6. First, there was no ffmpeg rpms. Now, I try to install it, and it's found on rpmfusion... except that it will not install. It insists that libfaad.so.0 is required, and tells me faad2-libs-2.6.1-5 from el5 is available. (I've done some stuff with my repos to try to get what I need for motion.) I installed

installing 32 bit vlc on Centos 5.5??
I'm in yum dependency hell using epel, rpmforge and rpmfusion repos to install vlc on 32 bit Centos 5.5. Anyone have a better idea? Doesn't really have to be vlc I just want to be able to play a dvd and Movie Player complains about missing plugins without saying what they are. 5.3 on an EeePC??
I have an ASUS EeePC 701 (with 2GB of RAM and an 8 GB card), on which I've installed CentOS on the hard-drive-plus-card. But it can't even use my eth0. Some one on a local LUG, where I had mentioned that other OSs did fine with all the same exact hardware, suggested that CentOS, being designed for stability rather than the bleeding edge, likely lacks drivers; so I need to get

R on an eeePC
Dear list, I wonder if somebody has succeeded in installing R on an eeePC (Xandros desktop). Searching via Rseek (term eeePC) and in eeePC forums (term Cran) left me without proper hits. Best wishes, Walter.

Program believed to work in Wine, but not on my EeePC
I'm trying to use Wine on an EeePC 701 in advanced mode. I think my Wine installation is basically OK, because I copied Windows Freecell (which was originally written as a test of the Win32s subsystem of course) across and it runs OK. The program I actually want to run (Laridian PocketBible) has been reported as working by other Wine users. It doesn't for me. My guess is that the EeePC

VLC Equivalent for CentOS 6.3
Hey All, Is there anything available in the CentOS 6.3 software catalog that can play a DVD? I am loath to install software from external repositories. That only leads to headaches. -- _ ?v? /(_)\ ^ ^ Mark LaPierre Registerd Linux user No #267004 www.counter.li.org ****

Prog running in Wine OK but needs Alt+F10 to maximise.
Hi I've got 'WriteOutloud' (talking wordprocessor for dyslexic children) working pretty well on an Asus Eeepc (Xandros) and on an Acer Aspire One (Kuki Linux) I'm using Wine 1.0.1 on both machines. What happens is that the prog starts up normally then immediately minimises to the taskbar. To make it run fullscreen you have to click on it and press Alt+F10 Although not a serious

CentOS on the Asus Eeepc ...
We talked earlier on IRC about the Asus Eeepc I think the idea was to start a wiki page with at least informations regarding the Eeepc. So here it is : http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Laptops/Asus/Eeepc (not linked from the CentOS on Laptops wiki page yet though , still a draft ;-) ) I had to modify the installer initrd.img to include the atl2.ko module for the wired nic to install from my local

Centos on eeePC
Hello all, Are there any experiences for CentOS 5 on one eeePC of Asus? Is to be considered here something? I consider myself as secondary equipment one eeePC 900 to add (here in Germany unfortunately at present only with Windows at this time). Did someone already gain experiences with one of the predecessor models here? sincerly Henrik

vlc?
Hey, folks, a co-worker raves that vlc is the bestestplaysthemostformats media player there is, including being able to resize videos. I see it's only over on repoforge for CentOS, but trying to install it at home (I'm running 5.8, 32-bit), it wants about 30 or more dependencies, and one or two of them, of course, have conflicts. Has anyone installed it in a 5.x environment? If so,
