Tripwire for CentOS
Hi,
I literally have about 36 machines running CentOS on a private network,
and will probably change the remaining 30 or so away from Whitebox or RH
in the near term.
One thing I just noticed was when I tried to search out Tripwire RPM's,
that none seemed evident.
Can anyone point me in the direction of an Tripwire RPM that works with
CentOS 4.3, or advise me on how to create one from the

Using odesolve to produce non-negative solutions
Hello,
I am using odesolve to simulate a group of people moving through time and transmitting infections to one another.
In Matlab, there is a NonNegative option which tells the Matlab solver to keep the vector elements of the ODE solution non-negative at all times. What is the right way to do this in R?
Thanks,
Jeremy
P.S., Below is a simplified version of the code I use to try to do this,

constrained optimization
Is there any R package addressing problems of constrained optimization ?
I have the following "apparently" simple problem:
Given a set V with fixed cardinality: nv
Given a set S whose cardinality is a parameter: nHat
Let the cardinality of the intersection S.and.V be: nHatv
The problem consists of maximizing nHatv/nv subject to a penalty if nHat >

Aggregating logs from numerous FreeBSD machines
Hi folks,
My stack of trusty FreeBSD servers always seems to be growing, and it's
getting to the point where the daily and security output mail is too much to
make good use of. I'm looking for suggestions for log monitoring and
aggregation tools, especially from a monitoring-for-security perspective.
If I had to imagine an ideal system, it would be a central server that

calling external .EXE file in R macOSX
Hi All,
I am currently working on an analysis which requires a call to an
external FORTRAN routine contained within a file called MCDS.EXE. This
file is usually called from within a WINDOWS program called DISTANCE. I
have some R script from the developers of the original software which
apparently makes a call to this .EXE file which i need to re-engineer
slightly, but i am having

How to detect botnet user on the server ?
Another alternative is to use a FIMS/HIDS such as Aide (Advanced Intrusion Detection Environment), OSSEC or Samhain. Be prepared to learn a lot about what your OS normally does behind the scenes (and thus a fair amount of initial fine tuning to exclude those things). Aide seems to work well (I've seen only one odd result) and is quite granular. However, it is local system based rather than

How to detect botnet user on the server ?
Hello guys,
Whats is the best way to identify a possible user using a botnet with php
in the server? And if he is using GET commands for example in other server.
Does apache logs outbound conections ?
If it is using a file that is not malicious the clam av would not identify.
Thanks

Host information gathering
I''d like to keep the desired and current states of a machine regarding it''s
configuration.
Sometimes a chain of administrative commands is needed to get a special thing
(re)configured on a machine, e.g. reconfig of a suncluster. This cannot be
done with puppet in an easy way. In the majority of cases, these commands
change appropriate files, which reflect the current

turning off prelinking?
In short, the reason considering (and still only considering) turning it off is
to make tripwire usable again (security vs. performance, I guess).
Is it possible to completely turn it off system-wide? Any additional steps
needed on the existing system (that already have half of the binaries
prelinked)?
What order of performance degradation to expect? If it is minor, nobody is
going to cry

Object#tap_if and Object#tap_unless
I originally brought this up in: https://github.com/rails/rails/issues/9067
Rails paved the way for Object#tap and Object#try...I''d like to propose
Object#tap_if and its counterpart,Object#tap_unless.
I''ve been following 37signals conventions of tapping variables in the views:
<% account.owner.tap do |user| %>
...
<% end %>
But, I find myself having to do this

how to know when a system is compromised
How do you know when a Linux system has been compromised??
Every day I watch our systems with all the typical tools, ps, top, who,
I watch firewall / IPS logs, I have logwatch setup and mailing daily
summaries to me and I dive deeper into logs if something looks suspicious.
What am I missing or not looking at that you security gurus are looking at?

Intrusion Suspected, Advice Sought
I run OS X 10.3.7 on a PowerMac MDD G4 on a cable broadband connection.
I have reason to think my system has been tampered with. Security
features in Mac OS X have been left unlocked (Preference Pane - Users)
even though a master lock has always been set in the Security
Preference Pane. This locks all other important preference panes which
could be tampered with. Also permissions have been

tripwire / .xauth$$$$ problem on Centos5
Dear All,
I'm using Centos5 to run a firewall, and as part of the intrusion detection
apparatus, I use tripwire (tripwire-2.4.1.1-1.fc6.x86_64.rpm - as made for
fedora core 6, and then tweaked with my own twpol.txt).
My problem, is that when I su to root, a .xauth file is created with a random
tail name - i.e. /root/.xauthyN4aHS or /root/.xauth1sGdFh and this causes
tripwire to

Upcoming Tripwire Port Upgrade
I have an updated tripwire port which I'd like to release for testing prior
to replacing the existing and currently broken tripwire port. I've tested
it under the upcoming 6.1, which it seems to work well in my test
environment and will commence testing under 4.11-STABLE, the upcoming 5.5,
and 7.0-CURRENT.
The things that are on my todo list are:
- Fully test under 4.11-STABLE.

Tripwire and cron
I am trying to get tripwire 1.2 patch level 2 on Redhat 6.2 to run out
of cron and so far have failed miserably.
It runs fine from the command line so I know my configuration is ok, but
when it runs from cron it gets to Phase 3 and simply exits. It doesn''t
generate any error messages or leave any core files laying around.

tripwire support
Me again...
I looked for tripwire rpms and came up blank on your mirrors. I was
able to find them at a rpmfind site (for both el3 and el4), but it would
be nice to have it included in the extras area. Any chance of this
happening anytime soon?
Thanks in advance
