Hi,
Do we need HT enabled on CentOS release 5.5 (Final) and Kernel Version :-

Please help me understand the pros and cons of having HT enabled or

making 0.0.16 into 1.0.0
So with all this ongoing Linus crap I'm going to be brave and ask for
reasons why
0.0.16 kernel API can't become 1.0.0.
Pros:
All old userspace compatibility is gone.
No more UMS cruft to support.
Something can be shipped on distros at last, people get to use the driver.
3D drivers exist and use the interface, there is an investment in these already.
Reasons against: (I'm making

centos 6 and mailman and dmarc
so... I've got some mailman lists running on centos 6. apparently c6
has mailman 2.1.12, which is far too old to have the dmarc patches
(introduced in 2.1.16 and updated in 2.1.??, so of course, I'm having
ongoing issues with yahoo/sbc/att/aol/etc subscribers and bouncing
messages ending up causing 30%+ of my subscribers not to be able to get
mail. These are mostly non-technical

OT: IBM and Dell rack
Hi all, sorry for the OT.
Is IBM and Dell 42U rack compatible in dimension, rails, etc?
Can we put IBM servers into Dell rack?
Google says it depends. Much appreciated if you can share your experience.

[HW] Do the HDD cages in rack mount chassis indicate visual/audio HDD failure?
I have no personal experience with rack mount chassis.
>From the past postings, I reckon there are members, in this list, who
have experience in rack mount setups and would like get their advice.
To reduce the H/W cost, I am considering Linux mdadm RAID10 on a 2U chassis.
I would appreciate clarification on the following:
In rack mount chassis, do the cages that house the
hard disks have

Regarding Static website generator [GSOC Docs-toolchain]
Hi,
Lei and I have been working on the project, based on community input. We
have implemented two way sync between github and pagure as suggest by many.
Now we want build the site and display it to user. There are number of
options mkdocs, hugo(docker uses it now) etc.
There are pros and cons to each site generator. To use hugo, we need the
user to have hugo installed too, and than he needs to

extcarve - ext2,ext3,ext4 file carving tool
Hi -
Updated my old project named "ext3carve" and renamed it as "extcarve" . It
uses libext2fs. (To be precise,re-uses on 'debugfs' command's "dump_unused"
feature)
In summary, the tool will do the following - It will scan the linux machine
,for unused/deleted blocks and search for magic signatures. If it finds
valid signature (both header and footer) It

recommended methods/software for videocasting
An acquaintance is considering videocasting speakers at a conference and
using a Twitter product called Periscope. I'd like to recommend an open
source solution. While I've never offered videos over the web, I have
made audios available, and all it entailed was placing the file on the
website and putting its url on a visible webpage. I wouldn't think any
more than that is

HSM
Purely from interest, is there any current FOSS implementation of HSM?
I note that XFS has dropped support for DMAPI, have other filesystems?

> It is important to note that this applies to trap representations and not
to unspecified values. A structure or union never has a trap representation.
Yes, nondeterministic bits would work for padding of struct/union, as
described in (3) The third case is the value of struct/union padding.
For the members of struct/union, it is allowed to have trap representation,
so poison can be used.

Storage - posibilities?
Hi all.
Currently I am administering a mail cluster in which messages are
stored on software RAID shared with NFS. There are several NFS
servers, every one of them exports a part of all mail files for a
specific frontend with postfix.
We are thinking about replacing these storage hosts with one solution,
maybe a storage array with appropriate disk space and I/O capacity.
What are pros and cons

CentOS 7, xfs
Well, I've set up one of our new JetStors. xfs took *seconds* to put a
filesystem on it.
We're talking what df -h shows as 66TB.
(Pardon me, my mind just SEGV'd on that statement....)
Using bonnie++, I found that
a) GPT and partitioning gave was insignificantly different than
creating an
xfs filesystem on a raw disk. I'm more comfortable with the
partition, though.

Asterisk server: Console or GUI OS ? Init level 3 or init level 5 ?
I'm about to start building my asterisk server and I can't seem to find
anything that discusses the pros and cons of installing the OS (Fedora 15)
as console only or GUI, ie install KDE as well.
So, other than a bit of disk space, is there any reason why I shouldn't
install KDE when I set it up ?
Is there any great disadvantage to running the server in init level 5 (ie

Call Manager or Asterisk
Hello list.
No intention to start a flamewar here but I would really like opinions
from those who know both the Cisco and Asterisk system. I'm working for
a company with 15 offices in 11 countries, offices are relatively small
(3-20 people each) and most of them have a Cisco 1760 Router installed
with Call manager express (CME) and 1-3 ISDN lines (2-6 simultaneous calls).

Undef and Poison round table follow-up & a plan
It is UB when a poison is passed to certain operations that raise UB on
poison, such as division by poison/dereferencing poison pointer/branching
on poison condition/etc.
Otherwise, poison is simply propagated, but it does not raise UB
Copying poison bytes is okay:
// Members are initialized to poison at object creation.
p = alloca {i8, i32} // p[0], p[4~7] are poison
q = alloca {i8, i32} // we
