tripwire alternative
Hello all,
Years ago, I used to work with tripwire for system monitoring.
Last time I checked with "yum search tripwire", there is no hit.
IIRC, it used to be packed by default on older Redhat distros.
Any suggestion for an alternative of tripwire for my CentOS 5.6?
Cheers,

libsafe on CentOS 5.6
Hello all,
IIRC, libsafe was officially included in previous versions of Redhat.
However, I found that libsafe is not on CentOS 5.6 yum repo.
Is that any reason that such a good library like libsafe is excluded?
Maybe is there any better alternative for libsafe recently?

GNOME, numeric keypad & commas
Hi,
Our local school has a 100 % CentOS network on servers and desktops.
Until recently, we were using a highly customized Xfce desktop
environment. Last week I decided to migrate all desktops from Xfce to
GNOME, which went quite well. Now I have to sand down some rough edges.
The secretary complained that she can't use the numeric keypad as
before. She's using LibreOffice Calc a lot,

Gnome-3 - can't drag menu items out
I've mostly been using MATE from epel when I use GUI access on CentOS7
because it works with x2go, but just noticed on a system with Gnome3
that I can't drag items out of the menus to the desktop or top bar for
easier access. Is there some way to make the desktop space useful for
more than pretty wallpaper?

More recent GDE on CentOS 5+
I have not had any success building a more recent version of GDE than
2.16.0 on CentOS.
I tried jhbuild, and went line by line using the how-to web page for
jhbuild (http://www.gnome.org/~jamesh/jhbuild.html), and I get hung up
on dbus-glib-l (which does not appear to be in CentOS or available for
it, at least from base, updates, extras, KB & rpmforge). Garnome is
another possibility that I

How is this possible?
As an experiment, I am attempting to build a more recent version of
GNOME than 2.16.0 on CentOS 5.1. I've tried both garnome and jhbuild,
and neither one works quite right. Jhbuild blows out looking for a
dbus-glib-1 revision >= 0/74 (the release rev is 0.70), so I
downloaded that and tried to build it. This results in the following
error:

Pause on graphics
My R script needs to pause or wait for a key or mouse on each graph. I used the following statement after each plot
par(ask=TRUE)
This works on Windows but not on MacOS.
Is there any way to pause on graph in MacOS?
Thanks,

Nonlinear optimization with constraints
Hello R community,
I am using R for creating a model using optimization. I would like to ask if there is R-function/package for solving the problem below:
Minimize sum(abs(exp^(Ai1 x1 + Ai2 x2 + ... + Aim xm - bi) - 1)), for each i = 1, ..., n.
subject to Ai1 x1 + Ai2 x2 + ... + Ajm xm - bi <= c, where c is a scalar.
(x is a vector of variables, A is nxm matrix, b is a vector)

Gnome Notification Applet
I tried out Scientific Linux 6 Live to see (basically) what I can
expect with CentOS 6 and was pleased to find that everything looks
pretty familiar and is easily customizable to make it look and feel
like 5.6 -- except for one thing that I also noticed in Ubuntu's
newest beta (my Dad uses Linux Mint). For whatever reason, Gnome has
decided to put the Volume Control and Network Manager in the

"Untrusted application launcher (desktop launchers)"
I am having this problem on Ubuntu 18.04 -- I manage a batch of desktop
machines with some convience desktop launchers, which gnome3 insists are
"untrusted". With some general websearching reveals that this is a *GNome3*
so-called "security" issue
(https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/commit/1630f5348). I found a thread

If you can help or point out any document that I need to read to

kvm & keypad on Centos 7.5
Everyone,
I have a lab computer I am using to test kvm. It was difficult to
install with NetworkManager running. After I turned nm off I got the
bridge to work and to stay in place. NetworkManager kept chaning
things.
I have several things I would like to learn and to tweak with KVM and
virtal machines.
The first small tweak is how to turn on the keypad on a keyboard. I
have tried two
