Ongoing VM saga ....
.... I have a 64-bit CentOS 5.6 VM running on a 64-bit FC-14 host. I was originally using the stock NAT networking on the guest, which could access the host, but nothing else on the network. I eventually found some links on how to setup routed networking on the guest using a specifically setup bridge. I followed the example a bit too closely, bridging my eth0 interface, which is the one I

Programs on/off on virtual host machine
been playing with my host machine and thought some might want to see what I have on and the full list of chkconfig I have installed desktop and x windows system to bring up a desktop when I want one with startx. I turned 'off' quite a bit and yum removed quite a bit. These set of programs still allow full use as a host so far, including the startx desktop. Always afraid to remove or

stale file handle issue
I've run out of ideas on this.... A CentOS 6 box serving nfs: two directories separately: /this/partition/dir0 and /this/partition/dir1. Everything looks good on it. On the servers it's exporting to - two are CentOS 6, one's CentOS 7, they all automount /net/server/this/partition/dir0... but no matter what I've done, restarting autofs and nfslock, umounted things... but with autofs

need-restart ?
Hi, today I updated the glibc packages on some CentOS machines. After the Update I checked which services/processes I have to restart "yum -C ps" or "needs-restarting" At the most machines I get no information about necessary restarts, but at two machines a long listing : 1 : /sbin/init 386 : /sbin/udevd-d 659 : /sbin/udevd-d 999 : /usr/sbin/vmtoolsd 1103 : auditd 1128 :

NFS problem: getattr ERROR: Request couldn't be completed in time
i posted this also to linux-nfs, maybe this is a more appropriate place as it's clearly a "user" problem ### hi, i'm trying to mount a NFS 4 share with "sec=sys" from a NetApp FAS3250 on a CentOS KVM guest. this doesn't work, the mount doesn't complete and hangs. mount command is: /bin/mount -v -t nfs -s -o vers=4.1,sec=sys 10.110.96.90:/home /home/cir

stale file handle issue [SOLVED]
*sigh* The answer is that the large exported filesystem is a very large XFS... and at least through CentOS 6, upstream has *never* fixed an NFS bug that I find, googling, being complained about in '09: it gags on inodes > 32bit (not sure if that's signed, or unsigned, but....). The answer was to either create, or find an unneeded directory with a < 32bit inode, rename the

kernel & automount errors in messages log
Hello all, I have a few strange errors in my messages log I can't fix. My system works great, it just bugs me that I have error (or apparent errors) that I don't know about. I get automount errors regurlarly (daily) that are reflected in the last four lines of the log file excerpt below. My misc and net directories are there, but I can't write to them either. The properties say that
