HP MicroServer
A bit OT, but I'm running CentOS-5.6 on this machine
(in fact on two of them)
and it seems to run perfectly -
I've had no problems at all.
Except that I'd like to add a second ethernet port,
and am not sure where one can find a card that will fit this machine.
As far as I can see, it requires a half-height PCIe card,
which seems to be rather a rare animal.
(There doesn't seem to

OT hard disk geometry
My only excuse for asking this question here
is that I am running CentOS-6.5 on my HP MicroServer.
I recently purchased a 2TB WD hard drive (WD20ESRX),
and was surprised to find that the power-connector on this drive
did not seem to be in the correct place for the drive-bay.
(The drive bay closes, but the disk does not spin.)
The power connector on the drive is further from the SATA connectors

CentOS-7.2 kernel panic
My HP MicroServer crashes with a kernel panic
when booted into kernel-3.10.0-327.3.1.el7.x86_64,
but runs perfectly under kernel-3.10.0-229.20.1.el7.x86_64 .
I've been trying to save the panic message with kdump,
but am not sure how one can configure kdump to do this,
if indeed that is possible.

Power-outage
I have a CentOS-5.6 remote server in a house in Italy,
where there are occasional thunder-storms.
There was one yesterday, when the electricity
went off 3 times, for a second or so on each occasion.
My server, an HP MicroServer,
came back (re-booted) on 2 of the 3 occasions,
but not on the third.
I assume that the problem arises because the machine
does not close down properly.

Problem with AT&T VPN
I'm running a CentOS-5.6 server,
which in general runs perfectly.
My setting is possibly a little unusual:
ADSL -> Billion 5200S RC modem/router -> CentOS-5.6 HP MicroServer
-> Linksys WRT54GL router .
My daughter is just visiting me,
and she has to contact her job using AT&T VPN
on her laptop under Windows XP.
Unfortunately this does not work on my system

Radeon driver under CentOS-6
I wonder if anyone has CentOS-6 working on an HP MicroServer?
I'm having a problem with the graphics driver
for the Radeon HD 4200 graphics card.
CentOS-5.6 is working fine on this machine;
but at present I only have CentOS-6 running in text mode.
The graphics card as given by "/sbin/lspci -m" is

CentOS-6 by PXEboot?
Has anyone succeeded in installing CentOS-6.0 by PXEboot.
If so, would you say how you did it, please.
I tried (on an HP MicroServer),
but gave up in the end and used a USB stick installation instead.
But I'd be very interested to know how to do it, for the future.
Unfortunately I didn't keep a proper note of my PXEboot attempt,
but IIRC the problem was that install.img was not found,

Update to CentOS 6.0 without CD/DVD reader
I've had a disaster on my home network server;
the partition table on the disk containing / has become corrupted,
and testdisk has not enabled me to recover the table.
If anyone can help with this I should be grateful.
However, that is not what I am writing about.
I've installed a substitute box - and HP MicroServer -
which by a miracle has CentOS-5.6 installed on it.
Now I'm

A query on graphic console
I'm only getting a text console with CentOS-7.2
on my (oldish) HP MicroServer.
The only explicit error I see in Xorg.0.log
is that no driver is found for my Pixart USB optical mouse.
My query is: would that be sufficient
to prevent a graphic console?
Incidentally, I can use X apps, eg xpdf,
if I ssh in from my laptop.
As always, any advice gratefully received.

CentOS-6 firewall how to open a port
I'm running CentOS-6 on an HP MicroServer (since this morning)
and I'd like to open an non-standard port,
for use on a laptop attached to the internet through the server.
Do I have to explicitly add an iptables rule?
If so, and I want to open (say) udp port 500 ,
what command should I give?
I've always used shorewall in the past,
and will probably do so now if the default firewall

CentOS 5.5 x64, HP ProLiant Microserver and eSATA
Hello all.
Not sure how many people here also frequent the CentOS forums, so apologies for the 'cross post'.
I know some here are using CentOS on HP's ProLiant Microserver, so if anyone's tried eSATA on their box, please let me know. Perhaps best to reply over at the forum - https://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?viewmode=flat&topic_id=31558&forum=39

ipmi_si error on booting
I'm getting the (unintelligible to me) error message
ipmi_si: Could not set up I/O space
ERST: Failed to get Error Log Address Range
when I try to boot any OS on the grub menu
apart from the one I last installed.
(Actually, Windows also boots properly.)
I wonder if anyone has had this error message,
and worked out where it comes from?
I googled for it, and it has come up many times;

CentOS-7 on a USB stick
I tried dd-ing the ISO onto a USB stick, as suggested in
<http://wiki.centos.org/Manuals/ReleaseNotes/CentOS7>,
but it didn't boot.
Did anyone have better luck with this?
In any case, I got it working by running livecd-iso-to-disk
on a Fedora-20 laptop.
I've found before that this is the best program around
for the purpose.
But I've 2 queries about this:
