C8 and NetworkManager problem
Hi list, I've installed C8 on my workstation. I configured my network devices (two bridges, two nics) using nmcli. Now that NM is the default I tried it. On C7 I always disabled it. I noticed some problem: 1) During the boot, also if NetworkManager-wait-online.service status is OK, I noticed that opening a terminal and ping some address it needs some time to perform ping and any

CLI speed tester for CentOS?
I'd like to run a CLI broadband speed tester on my CentOS server. I downloaded "tespeed" from <http://sourceforge.net/projects/tespeed/>. This ran fine under Fedora-19, but failed under CentOS with the message "# reject large message", although from a quick look at the source it did not seem to be using a large test-file. Does anyone know of an alternative CLI

migrating from Centos 5.8 -> 6.3 LDAP Client Config
Hi, I run a Centos 5.8 samba server which uses a separate LDAP centos 6.3 server for user and group authentication. Now we migrate to a new centos 6.3 samba server and I'd like to know how do 'ldapify' that new server the best way. I'm a bit confused if I can use the same nss setup like on the current old server or how and what to configure to go with SSSD? May be someone can

Installing CIFS on CentOS4
Hello, I have a CentOS4 install and I am trying to mount a Windows Server 2008 folder. When I use this command: mount -t cifs //10.1.1.17/Org/MR\ Ops/ test, it only mounts the Org folder. When I try the same thing on a newer computer (Fedora 15), it mounts all the way to MR Ops. So I am pretty sure that my cifs file needs to be updated, but I am having a really hard time doing this. I updated

CUPS not rendering documents via Samba
Hi guys, any CUPS / Samba experts out there? The CUPS printing guide is a horrendous maze of options. I've got nearly there but I've got one thing wrong and I don't know where to look. I set up our two printers (HP K5400s) using the GUI printer tool. Both print the test page just fine. I set up the [printers] and [print$] shares and can browse to the printers from Windows (XP for me)

CentOS 5.8 Samba and Windows 7
Hi, any one has successfully joined a Windows 7 workstation to a samba (3.0.33) domain on CentOS 5.8? I am wondering if I need to install a newer version (from sernet by example) or if I can keep the old one and try harder... Thx, JD

Theoretical Firewall Specs?
So, the more I look at various ways to lay out my infrastructure, the more I am thinking about specs for hardware. Starting with firewalling. How does one determine the specs for a firewall? What I mean is: 1. motherboard/CPU - p4? Dual-Core? Intel i3, i5, i7? 2. RAM? 4gb? 8gb? More? 32gb? 3. Obviously GB Nics! I am bring about 300gb of traffic a month right now and I expect that to

NetworkManger creates extra bonds; is this a bug?
Hi All, I see an unexpected beahviour from NetworkManager on CentOS 7.1. Using nmcli tool, I create a bond with two slaves as explained in the Red Hat 7.1 Networking guide. I enable slaves and master; bond works as expected. When I restart NetworkManager, it creates a new bond with the same name but not connected to any device. Two bonds with the same name is confusing for my other monitoring

CentOS 7, systemd, NetworkMangler, oh, my
My manager tells me a system in the datacenter is down. I go down there, and plug in a monitor-on-a-stick and keyboard. It's up, but no network. I try systemctl restart NetworkManager several times, and ip a shows *no* change. Finally, I do an ifdown, followed by an ifup, and everything's wonderful. My manager thinks that the NM daemon thinks everything's fine, and there've been

Backup live system
Though I've worked with enterprise systems, I'm not familiar with FOOS backup software. Which of those recommended would allow me to backup a system while users are active on it? If it matters the system uses LVM. I'd also like to be able to avoid needing the network if possible. That is, I'd plug in a disk into a USB port and backup the system onto that... again, while

nmcli: unwanted secondary ip-address
Dear CentOS-Community, we are facing the following issue: A secondary ip address seems to be automatically added to a nic which causes several issues in our setup. This server is equipped with four nics which are currently in use: # nmcli con show NAME????? UUID????????????????????????????????? TYPE????? DEVICE eno2????? cb6fcb54-be52-4ab6-8324-88091a0ea1a0? ethernet? eno2 eno4?????

nmcli: unwanted secondary ip-address
Dear Simon, every second IP-address is unwanted. We restarted? eno4: nmcli con down eno4; nmcli con up eno4 and the second address vanishes. Then after a few ours, the second ip address reappears. This is the config-file of eno2: # cat ifcfg-eno2 TYPE=Ethernet PROXY_METHOD=none BROWSER_ONLY=no BOOTPROTO=none DEFROUTE=yes IPV4_FAILURE_FATAL=yes IPV6INIT=no IPV6_AUTOCONF=yes IPV6_DEFROUTE=yes
