Samba server choices
I have been running a customized version Amahi for a couple years for my
Samba server. It is time for an upgrade, and I will be moving away from
Amahi, as they have abandoned Fedora for Ubuntu.
Back when I selected Amahi to replace my 15 year old NT server, I looked
around and only considered SME Server as an alternative, but they were
still on Centos 4.7 with the Centos 5 based version

Make nmbd bind to interfaces only
Hi,
I would like to have nmbd only bind to the interfaces specified in the
interfaces line of smb.conf, in the same way that smbd does. When
researching this I did come across a mailing list thread saying there
was no use case, but I think I have one.
For many years ClearOS has been providing NT4 style domains and
unix-style shares. M$ upset the applecart last year with their 1803

Problem with Remote Announce
Hi,
I've been running Samba 3.5.18 on ClearOS 5.2 for a while now. I have a
server on its own LAN's (192.168.2.0/24 and 192.168.3.0/24) and an IPSec
VPN through to 192.168.10.0/24. The remote LAN is just one machine on
the other side of a router. I've been successfully seeing its netbios
name and I've been able to ping the remote PC by name and browse it and
vice versa. A few

Looking for a RAID1 box
I have found a:
HPE 873830-S01 ProLiant MicroServer Gen10
for <$300 without drives.? If I can believe the seller, it has a AMD
Opteron X3216 Dual-core (2 Core) 1.6GHz and 8GB Installed.
It has 4 3.5" bays. and 1? "Media" bay?

this could well be acceptable.? Got to find out power draw.? Looks like
~40W.
Any input on issues of OS

What is in a yum group
I want to install Xfce on a ClearOS server. They have not defined any
desktop groups (actually no groups other than minimal). But lots of
Xfce rpms are in their repos.
How can I see what rpms Centos would install with a 'yum group install'?
Then I get to install vnc server and set up the client right...
thanks

Shares stopped working for groups
Hi,
I have a ClearOS 7.8 system which is running
samba-4.10.4-11.el7_8.x86_64, and it upgraded to this just over a week
ago (probably not relevant). A couple of days ago all the group shares
failed. I discovered that if I switched them to the built-in group
"allusers" the share worked fine. It fails for any user-defined group
but it used to work. Samba is running as a PDC and the

I have a Samba 3.6 PDC (ClearOS) that I want to migrate to Sernet Samba
4.2 AD on a Centos7-arm box.
So I am reading:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Migrating_a_Samba_NT4_domain_to_a_Samba_AD_domain_%28classic_upgrade%29
And trying to figure out what files I need. Note this is a totally NEW
box, I need to copy over the needed files. So do I move all of the .tdb
files? There are actually

Some questions
After years of delays and side trips, I really am going to dive in and
build my own Samba server. And I have a few questions.
All of my servers will be ARM. The main hardware will be Cubieboards (2
and truck). They will be running Centos-7 once the development is
finished. For now I am using Fedora 22 arm. My backup file server will
be a pogoplug (armv5) with Redsleeve 7.1.

Caching user accounts on a Linux portable
I tried using sssd but I couldn't get it working based on the info on
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Sssd
I may give it another go anyway.

Moving a computer from a down domain to a new domain
I had been running a samba server, the AMAHI F12 distro, that has samba
3.4.9. It ran well enough, but I was planning on replacing it with
ClearOS. Well monday night I lost my server harddrive, so now it is
crunch time to update/upgrade.
I think I have ClearOS configured properly, it is running samba 3.6.10
(Redhat 6.4 based). So far I have tried to add two of my XP systems to
the new
