Triggering script from cron or web client
I have a Bash script, currently run a couple times an hour from cron, that
pulls data from an old Windows DB by rsync, converts it to SQL, and injects
it into a MySQL DB for display in a LAMP-based app. (Make and Perl are also
involved to minimize the number of tables touched and to clean up the SQL
generated by Pxlib.)
I'd like to add the ability to refresh the data immediately from the

ProFTPd under CentOS 5.2 running FTPS - iptables problem
Hello,
I am setting up ProFTPd daemon (from EPEL repository) under CentOS 5.2
and I need encrypted connection. Daemon is configured perfectly, there
is no problem - if iptables is off connection is smoothly established,
but when iptables is on, connection in FTP client ends on command LIST
without response. Last command with response (positive) is PASV.
Thank you for your replies

How often is kernel "touching" swap partition?
Hello,
I am going to buy new laptop with two drives, one SSD and one HDD and I
want to place swap partition on HDD which will be most time unused and
therefore spinned down. Problem is, that I don't know, if or how often is
kernel touching swap space even if there is lot of free memory and thus
spinning HDD up.
Thank you in advance

So, what about clustering and load balancing?
Hello world,
so, with beta2 of Dovecot 2.0 being available, what is the preferred
way to achieve load balancing and fault tolerance? As far as I can see
it, there are basically two options:
1) Use a HA shared storage, export either a cluster filesystem or NFS,
and have your dovecot servers mount that file system. Load balance
these servers (Cisco ACE, ldirectord, ...) and there you go. Overall

CentOS 5.5: bind config is missing the slave zone definitions
Hi all,
I have two near identical CentOS 5.5 machines; both are running named
server (DNS). On one using system-config-bind I can easily define a
slave zone; on the other, it is a no go: it says the definition is
there, etc. but there is no corresponding file in
/var/named/chroot/var/named/slaves . Any idea why that would be? What
gives?
I use the simplest possible zone definitions - forward IN

Remote backup of server
Hello,
I want mount directory of one server to another over internet. I was
looking to NFS4, but there are no security mechanisms. I need
encrypted connection using private key (something like SFTP).
Or - if there is in CentOS repo (or EPEL) package, that can mount
directory over internet using private key and make differential backup
(like rdiff-backup).
Thank you very much for links or other

antispam plugin, pipe backend, how to make it work?
Hi, my setup is a dovecot 2.0.19 IMAP server on Ubuntu Precise with
the antispam plugin in version 2.0+20120225-2 and spamassassin at
version 3.2.2
I have been trying and failed to get the pipe backend of the antispam
plugin to work. Spamassin by itself works, a manual call of sa-learn
works fine. Bayes data is stored in a mysql DB.

Fwd: Re: Wiki advice on running getmail on INBOX access - how does that work?
Just re-tried this, and it doesn't seem to fire getmail on access for me.
My incrontab is as follows:
/home/user/Maildir/cur/ IN_ALL_EVENTS,IN_ONESHOT /home/user/bin/mvmail.sh
The incrontab rule does work, but only if I make a physical change in
/home/user/Maildir/cur/ e.g. by moving a mail from another folder in
there. Just accessing the particular inbox doesn't seem to trigger

Hello,
I had a version of wine prior of 1.2 (I think it was 1.0.1) installed in my Ubuntu 9.04 operating system and decided to upgrade to version 1.2
I checked some forums on the net and one of them recommended to remove wine using the following command in terminal
sudo apt-get remove wine
then I should remove the .wine folder in my home directory
rm -rf .wine

variable expansion in dovecot.conf?
hi all,
does dovecot.conf support the definition/use of user variables?
e.g., in principle,
my_DIR = /path/to/something/
then,
default_mail_env = maildir:${my_DIR}/%d/Accounts/%1u/%u/Maildir
or, for that matter,
default_mail_env = blahblah
then,

Workaround for bind9 reload bug : samba_dlz Ignoring duplicate zone
Ps, just noticed this one also.
Adding this to named.conf.options and in the options { } section
// Dont load empty zones, this can conflict with samba bind_dlz zones.

Workaround for bind9 reload bug : samba_dlz Ignoring duplicate zone
Sorry, Louis,
not all of us use systemd.

# cat /etc/debian_version
buster/sid
# cat /proc/1/cmdline
/sbin/init
You see: good old init. Just a test machine for a scheduled upgrade.

Bind9 9.18.28 crashes after loading AD DNS Zone
Hi all,
it seems the workaround is no longer needed, got an extra update of bind
9.18.28 today:
--- Changes for bind9 (bind9 bind9-dnsutils bind9-host bind9-libs bind9-utils) ---
bind9 (1:9.18.28-1~deb12u2) bookworm-security; urgency=medium
* Fix the assertion failure in samba-libs DLZ module. (Closes #1074378)
Tested it, and yes, it worked...

Bind9 9.18.28 crashes after loading AD DNS Zone
Hello lovely samba-people,
this morning all of our DCs (debian bookworm) upgraded their bind9
packages to 9.18.28 (from 9.18.24). Afterwards the named service would
not come up successfully and crash after loading the DLZ:

bind9 refuses to start -> zone has no NS records
Try this.
systemctl edit bind9
#/etc/systemd/system/bind9.service.d/override.conf
[Service]
ExecReload=
sytemctl edit samba-ad-dc.service
#/etc/systemd/system/samba-ad-dc.service.d/override.conf
[Unit]
After=network.target network-online.target bind9.service
systemctl daemon-reload
systemctl restart bind9 samba-ad-dc
If that does not work, then, can you run this script:
