Incorrect evince password request
I have run into several pdf documents that request a password
with evince; but not with Adobe.
[rey at reylinux docs]$ rpm -qa |grep evince
evince-0.6.0-13.el5
[rey at reylinux docs]$ evince Mir*
Error: Unsupported version/revision (4/4) of Standard security handler
Error: Incorrect password
Any workaround or do I just need to use adobe on WinXP?

Are file system mounts costly?
I recall a kernel parameter on Unix System V of number
of mounted file systems. Max recommended was 8.
Larger numbers slowed down inode location and
impacted performance.
Has Linux solved that bottleneck? Are 20 or 30 mounted
efs and cifs file systems on one system OK?

INN with SSL
Hello, on a INN mailinglist i have found , that in order to use INN over SSL
i need to call another instance of nnrpd like this :
su news -c '/usr/local/news/bin/nnrpd -D -c
/usr/local/news/etc/readers-ssl.conf
-p 563 -S'
I am using INN from official centos 5.1 rpm .
My question is, where to init scripts /etc/init.d/inn or somewhere else put

Thin client system for X applications?
We're looking for what, years ago, I'd describe a s a X terminal --
something small, simple (and ideally cheap) that a user could display
X applications on. I guess they're now called thin clients, but they
now seem geared as seats on the web, and for this application we would
need to be able display the results of running a homebrewed X
application from a CentOS system, either

Building an "instant on" X terminal
I got my hands on a HP t5720. This was designed as a thin-client
workstation (originally Windows XPembedded, talking to a Windows terminal
server). It's not very powerful, with an AMD Geode NX 1500 (1.0 GHz),
256Mb RAM (16MB used for video) and a 512Mb flash "hard disk".
I plugged in a USB DVD drive and was able to boot "linux rescue" from
a C5.4 32bit disk, and it

Is there a good nntp client for Centos 6 that handles SSL native?
Is there a good nntp client for Centos 6 that handles SSL native?
It was difficult, to say the least, on Centos anyway, to get
Pan to post to Mixmin servers, which require SSL (so we have
to use Stunnel to add SSL capabilities to Pan) on Centos.
Had Pan native SSL support, this wouldn't have been a problem.
Hence the question:
Q: Is there a good freeware NNTP client with a Centos

[LLVMdev] Group Rate At Cupertino Inn For Developer's Meeting
Good News,
Because the meeting was originally scheduled for Apple, Cupertino Inn
has allowed us to use the Apple discount rate ($123.00 instead of
$185.00). You should request that rate if your stay involves checkout on
any weekday (i.e. thursday night). However, that rate is flat for any
night. So, if you want to stay over Friday night into the weekend, just
get their usual (already discounted)

control outgoing IP address?
I'd like to consolidate some services that have been assigned by IP
(dns, syslog etc.) onto one machine by giving it IP aliases to accept
connections for the old addresses until all the references are fixed.
However, I'd like to have it use it's original IP as the source for
outbound connections. Where do you control that?

linear mixed effect model with ordered logit/probit link?
Hello,
I'm working on the multiple categorical data (5-points scale) using linear
mixed effect model and wondering if anyone knows about or works on the
linear mixed effect model with ordered logit or probit link.
I found that the "lmer" function in R is very flexible and supports
various models, but not ordered logit/probit models. I may conduct my
analysis by turning my DVs

Hotel Setup?
I am working with a small inn (under 50 rooms) that is next to a ski
resort. The inn just had Cat5e Homeruns to each room installed, with a
patch panel in the basement. Now it's my job to connect each of the
those rooms to the Internet. I think I have a Cisco switch that I can
do Private VLANS with, however I thought of another solution.
Has anybody seen or does anybody know of a VoIP

Hi,
I was wondering what is the current status fro ext4 support in Centos. I've
noticed that is marked as dev when I try to use it from the installer.
Does anybody have a scary story to prevent using it?

[LLVMdev] Recharging the batteries
Hi,
I've noticed that http://llvm.org/status/ hasn't been updated for a while,
so
I tought that some of you might find the following information interesting
and/or encouraging...
For benchmarking the stuff I'm working on I needed to compile a number
of open-source packages. The settings I used:
AS=llvm-as
lLD=llvm-ld
AR=llvm-ar
CXX=llvm-g++
CC=llvm-gcc

PrivSep and portability
Hi,
I've seen a few patches related to the PrivSep works. As far as I can
see, it seems to work by using a shared memory segment to communicate.
I just want to point out that there are some unix systems that do not
have mmap() (SCO, older SVR3 systems) or that might have problems with
anonymous shared mmap() (don't have an examples, but e.g. the INN docs
are full of warnings concerning
