ntpd under Xen Dom0 exhibits extremely high jitter/noise? runs stable/quiet under non-xen kernel.
On a selection of boxes, ntpd running in Xen Dom0 reproducibly exhibits extermely high noise/jitter. Switching back to -default, non-xen kernel ntpd runs with very low jitter/noise. Question -- how can I ''tame'' ntpd noise & jitter when running in Dom0? Is the problem a config issue, or a bug? Already reported this downstream; everybody''s "stumped".

clocksource/0: Time went backwards
Dear fellow Xen''ers! I''m having a problem with my new Xen-enabled colocation server.. I hope ( at least ;) ) one of you guys know how to fix this problem.. For a certain amount of time ( 1-2 days ) the domU runs fine.. until the console starts spitting out messages like these: [80182.004456] clocksource/0: Time went backwards: delta=-6917292717540055641 shadow=80182004054805

Screen blanking crashes
Hi, I upgraded a Dell C521 from Ubuntu 6.04 to CentOS5.1. The Dell has an NVidia 6150 analog video card. The screen is an LG1952Tx. After the screen blanking goes on, and the screen goes to sleep, the screen goes black except for a blue note saying: analog video, invalid frequency... I have installed the NVIDIA-Linux-x86-100.14.19-pkg1. Everything works great except for the screen sleep...

2.6.37 dom0 under Xen 4.1 clocksource not working
When booting 2.6.37 (from kernel.org) under Xen 4.1, there are apparently issues with timer interrupts being delivered to the dom0. Repeatedly causing an interrupt (for example, the ACPI power button) will allow the system to boot, as does adding "clocksource=jiffies" to the kernel command line. This is only present under Xen, not when booting the same kernel on real hardware. When boot

smbfs: directory listing with duplicate entries
Hello, smbmount from smbfsx-2.04b-1 kernel 2.2.7 I got a little problem with smbfs. Everything works fine, but sometimes i get doubled directory entries (not all of them). I turned debug on in smbfs and it looks that the doubled items come from NT server (4.0 server SP5 (PDC)). Listing from smbclient is fine. Here is an example from ls -l on smb share: -rw-rw---- 1 root samba 848

Error accessing [homes] after 3.0.25b update (uppercase)
OS is smeserver, based on CentOS/RHEL 4. After update to samba 3.0.25b (included in RHEL U6) users who had "mapped" their home in Network places were unable to access the share. All other shares worked. On every attempt a line similar to the following was logged: Feb 14 10:11:49 nethservice smbd[6258]: '/home/e-smith/files/users/FRANCESCA/home' does not exist or permission

Dell Dimension C521n
I'm in an all-Dell shop and am contemplating buying one of these to use as an "emergency gateway server" in case my primary fails. It'll let me take the primary out of service to upgrade its OS. Has anyone installed CentOS on one of these? Any gotchas? It looks like I can buy this model with these tweaks for about $480: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 3600+ FreeDOS included in

About profiling xen
Hi there, I am getting very low throughput (around 0.29Mbps) while running netperf benchmark for guest to guest communication on a single physical host. To analyse where the time is spent in hypervisor I wanna use profiling. Please help me choosing good profiler according to my requirments. Should it be better in my case, Xentrace, gprof, xenoprof  or Oprofile. Is it possible to use some vtune

Isolation and time
(Moving from offlist discussion.) I''m interested in opinions... Assume there are four single vcpu domains A, B, C, D, running on a 2-CPU physical machine. We wish to test for time skew on domain A. Assuming B, C, and D are all running some workload that attempts to fully saturate the (single) cpu. 1) Should the affect on domain A be essentially the same regardless of what load

(Centos 5.6) Server Time NTP Facility
Curiously examining some of the blocked IP addresses in the daily Logwatch report, I notice strange sites attempting to connect to our servers on port 123 (the time port). I also notice our servers successfully contacting official time references centres which are not those sites trying to connect to us. I notice too the installed time software is listening on every available IP. I can not

Keep CentOS 5.5 from upgrading?
Thanks, I'm trying to keep CentOS 5.5 from upgrading to 5.6 because of my issue with the time sync. I thought I had it figured out till today. I have tried google for help but with no luck. Can someone point me to a page or link that will give me a good idea as to how to stop the upgrade but still allow me to update my 5.5 packages? This is what I tried, that is not working

comparing with lead function
Hi All, I've been trying to compare if the previous value in a variable is equal to a binary value..(i.e i want to check if the last event was a yes or no) i've been trying to write some code for this, but it seems overly elaborate, can anyone suggest a better / shorter / neater way? The below doesn't quite work but shows my idea of splitting by the factor id, then creating a new

php 5.6 on CentOS 6
I am in the process of moving various apps and data off a CentOS 6 server to a new server running CentOS 7. As part of the migration process I need to upgrade an app and corresponding data files which requires php 5.6. I do have php 5.5 (and 5.4) installed since earlier but now tried to install php 5.6 from SCL which failed. This is the package I tried:
