yum update after fresh 5.6 install fails
Hi, I just finished installing a CentOS 5.6 x86_64 system and the first thing I wanted to do after the install is to apply the software patches. But I get the following error when I try to run 'yum update': Package libuser-0.54.7-2.1.el5_5.2.x86_64.rpm is not signed and yum update exits without applying any of the patches. I tried clearing the cache and re-running the update

IPERF Server
When starting IPERF with "iperf -s" or "iperf -sD" it seems to stop after client runs its first test. I would like to leave it running for a few hours to give someone a chance to run a few tests. Is there a way to leave it active on the server and kill it manually later?

php53 and pear
Hi all We require some packages installed through pecl (apc and memcache) which we have done on CentOS 5.5 by installing php 5.2 from testing and also installing php-devel and php-pear to much success! We would like to move to php 5.3 after 5.6 comes out but I note that there is no specific php53-pear package in testing and the php-pear srpm in the 5server directory on ftp rc com seems to be

CentOS-QA Mailing List
Does anybody know why this list is private and password protected? It would be nice to see progress, but it appears that part of the development is completely locked down and not open source. -- Steven Crothers steven.crothers at gmail.com

When CentOS 6 arrives ...
What is the best way to install CentOS 6? Is there an upgrade facility from CentOS-5.6? If so, how does this compare with a clean installation? -- Timothy Murphy e-mail: gayleard /at/ eircom.net tel: +353-86-2336090, +353-1-2842366 s-mail: School of Mathematics, Trinity College, Dublin 2, Ireland

Duplicate Mails
Hi, due to some idiot not being able to configure his Exchange server correctly, this list has been swamped by loads of duplicate mails. There were still several hundreds of mails awaiting delivery to this list. I have removed all of those from the mail queue - so if you are missing a mail you have sent, please resubmit it, it probably was lost while I cleaned the queue as I had no way of

ls returns file doesn't exist, find finds it??
Howdy, I am getting some errors with find and ls command - such that find is able to see a file whereas ls says the file doesn't exist. Initially I was trying find and ls together as: # find ./ -type f -mtime +15 | xargs ls Similar behavior is seen even when I execute both commands separately. Any thoughts on what might be wrong here? -- thanks, neubyr

syslog.conf - how to redirect messages by a program name?
Hello, the "man syslog.conf" explains how to filter syslog messages by facility (auth, authpriv, cron, daemon, kern, ... ) or by priority (debug, info, notice, warning, ...). But how could I redirect messages by a program name, like "drupal" or "php"? For example I have in /var/log/messages: Mar 20 04:20:44 mysite drupal: http://mysite|1300594844|page not

Tips for motherboard with multiple PCI / PCI-e slots
Hi, I need to fit at least three NICs and I was looking for motherboard models that contain 3 or 4 CPI (or PCI-e) slots and works with CentOS. I had a problem in the past with some models that had a bug and did not work well with linux (ok with windows) so that's way I am asking this here. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... How does Linux Repair actually work
Thanks to the help of folks on this forum, I now have my Centos 4 box up and working, however I do have a question on how the repair actually worked. After starting the Linux Repair, the process "found my installed Linux". Some of you will remember that I had accidentally erased the /boot and /boot/grub directories, but I had most of the files saved (not the symbolic links) and
