is it safe to resize root, on an LVM system, online?
Hi,
One of our servers has a too small root partition on LVM and needs to
be resized. Can / be safely increased online, without a reboot?

How to add a HD to a LVM
I have connected a HD that was a prior system drive (Centos 4.8)
and I am not sure of the command line procedures to find out if
it is recognized (I believe it is since it present in the GUI),
delete all data on it and finally add it to the LVM.
I would like to use it as a backup data drive.

Patches to enable MTUs >1500 in el5.6 ready for testing.
Hi all,
With help from others, I''ve been able to get Olaf''s patch for enabling
MTUs >1500 for vifX.y and tapZ devices working. I''ve been able to boot
dom0, launch domU and live-migrate without having the bridge''s MTU
degrade at any time.
Would the Xen RPM maintainers (and others) mind taking a look at the
following patches?

LiveCD System recovery - Mounting LVM?
Hi,
I am trying to recover data from my old system which had LVM. The disk had
two partitions - /dev/sda1 (boot, Linux) and /dev/sda2 (Linux LVM). I had
taken a backup of both partitions using dd.
Now I am booting of CentOS live cd for system restore. I recreated
partitions like previous system using fdisk and then used dd to dump all the
data onto it. I would like to mount sda2 as LVM, but I

[HOWTO] Running Xen 4.0 host (dom0) with Redhat Enterprise Linux 6 (RHEL6)
Hello,
If you''re interested in running Xen 4.0 hypervisor/dom0 on RHEL6,
take a look at here: http://wiki.xen.org/xenwiki/RHEL6Xen4Tutorial
It explains steps needed to rebuild Xen 4.0.1 src.rpm from Fedora on RHEL6,
and how to fetch dom0 capable 2.6.32.x kernel from upstream git repository.
It also shows how to get libvirt/virt-manager working with Xen on RHEL6.
Hopefully it helps :)

e2fsck: Bad magic number in super-block
I posted this to the Fedora-list, but thought I might get some
additional information here as well.
I have a HD that refuses to mount with a 'bad magic number in
super-block'. I'm running FedoraCore 6 x86_64.

is it possible to resive a PV in LVM and add more LV's ?
Hi all
I have a remote server (i.e SSH access only) which was incorrectly
partitioned and I urgently need to get it up and running. It's got a 500GB
HDD, but the PV is only 10GB big, so I can't add more LV's to to. P.S. This
is on LVM, btw.

OT: Recommendation for a good Internationalized terminal software
Hi all,
We've got server-based application that runs on CentOS. Until now,
most of our customer's end-users have accessed the application using
either PuTTY or Teraterm. I was asked yesterday to try and find
internationalized add ons or alternatives for our new Asian customers
(Japan, Korea and China atm).
I figured if anyone would be able to recommend terminal emulation

Need help in "repairing" the booting of my Linux 4 server
As I shared on this forum last week, I did a bad boo boo when I
erased my /boot/ directory without a backup - all of the things I
caution other NOT to do. Nevertheless, after trying to put
things back in order, today I decided to try a reboot and I get a
GRUB prompt.
Next I have put my Linux 4 disk in the CD drive and have selected
the "linux repair" mode which has put me into the

Too Much Traffic
I'm amazed at the postings. Many of the solutions to questions posted
can be found on GOOGLE. Also UNIX, AIX, HP-UX, and Linux all come with
man pages.
o Before posting try reading the relevant man pages.
o Research your issue with a search engine

ext4 or XFS
Hi all,
I've a 30TB hardware based RAID array.
Wondering what you all thought of using ext4 over XFS.
I've been a big XFS fan for years as I'm an Irix transplant but would
like your opinions.
This 30TB drive will be an NFS exported asset for my users housing
home dirs and other frequently accessed files.

5.5 install
Just installed from scratch 5.5
Weird, eth0 is now eth1 and eth1 is eth0. Don't even know how I'm sending
this message as the the CentOS machine can't connect to the internet and
this windoze box uses the Centos box as a gateway.
