ssh in while in fsck
My manager reminds me that "in the old Sun days", the ssh server came up first, *before* the fsck on boot, so that if there was a problem, and fsck was waiting for an answer, you could remotely ssh in, kill it, restart it, and answer (or give it the right flags). Does anyone know if it's possible to have that happen with CentOS? It would be nice to have it boot that way, so that if

using a Laptop as a KVM console?
Hi all, Has anyone seen something like this before: I want to use a laptop as a KVM console. Basically when a technician goes to one of our datacentres, or clients he has to look for a free LCD, keyboard & mouse to connect to a server (no network access, reinstall, troubleshoot failed kernel / HDD, etc). And then hopefully there's an open power socker in that cabinet. So I'm

Grub configuration from within Windows
My friend uses a typical dual-boot setup (Windows XP and Centos 5.3). The machine is online 24/7 and he often uses it from a remote location (Linux via ssh -X, Windows via rdesktop). The problem is that he wants to be able to remotely configure which of these two OSes is to be the default on next reboot, so he can switch from one OS to the other and back remotely. If Linux is up, he just needs to

CentOS 7 not installable using KVM-over-IP System
Hi, I just tried to install CentOS 7 using a Lantronix Spider KVM-over-IP System and its virtual media feature and to my surprise this did not work. The installation using the netinstall iso seems to work for a while (I see some dracut boot messages) but when the first stage of the boot is finished I get dropped into an emergency shell with the error message that "/dev/root does not

upgrade of 32bit to 64 bit CentOS 5.7
Hi List, Early in dec I was forced to upgrade one of my server systems - initially built in 2004 on an intel server mb it finally failed. Under some time pressure, I replaced the mb etc with a 64 bit asus system and did a repair of the linux system upon reboot with a 64 bit DVD. As one can imagine there were some headaches as the kernel was now 64 bit, but yum and friends were still 32 bit. I

2.1.rc1 (056934abd2ef): virtual plugin mailbox search pattern
Hello Timo, With dovecot 2.1.rc1 (056934abd2ef) there seems to be something wrong with virtual plugin mailbox search patterns. I'm using a virtual mailbox 'unread' with the following dovecot-virtual file $ cat dovecot-virtual * unseen For testing propose I created the following folders with each containing one unread message INBOX, INBOX/level1 and INBOX/level1/level2

Replace missing values in lapply
I have some matrices stored as elements in a list that I am working with. On example is provided below as TP[[18]] > TP[[18]] level2 level1 1 2 3 4 1 79 0 0 0 2 0 0 0 0 3 0 0 0 0 4 0 0 0 0 Now, using prop.table on this gives > prop.table(TP[[18]],1) level2 level1 1 2 3 4 1 1 0 0 0 2 3

[LLVMdev] Closures, newbie question
So I read the Kaleidoscope tutorial, big thanks to Chris Latter. Good pace, still excellent coverage. Just at the end it mentions closures and I was wondering how those are done in llvm. The link was to wikipedia, and i do know what closures/blocks/continuations are, (i think) but maybe someone could point me to where to read about how to do them in llvm. Thanks Torsten

Change in smbclient between 3.0.24 and 3.0.25c breaks third party app
Hello list, A change in smbclient between 3.0.24 and 3.0.25c breaks [1] the gollem filemanager [2] and maybe others. In particular folder creation is broken unless the folder is a top level folder on the share. To create a subfolder "level2" in the folder /level1 of a share gollem executes this command: /usr/bin/smbclient "//1.2.3.4/sharename" "-p139"

multiline string continuation
Dear R experts, I wonder how can one input a string variable in multiple lines in a R script. I've seen solution to the command line continuation in the non-string situation (just continute at the new line). However, that doesn't work for strings because the new line character, "\n", is included in the resultant string. For example, if I type the following in a script:

subset problem (reducing from six to two levels)
Hi all, I have got a seemingly simple problem (I am an R starter) with subsetting my data set, but cannot figure out the solution: I want to subset a data set from six to two levels, so that all analyses are done only with these two remaining levels. I tried TOTAL<-read.delim('total.csv',header=T) SUBSET.OF.TOTAL<-subset(TOTAL, FactorX %in% c("Level1","Level2"))

CentOS as Development Laptop?
Hi, Is CentOS good for a desktop machine? I have been using Fedora but the whole GNOME 3 debacle has me scrambling for something else. I have a few "minimal" CentOS servers but does anyone here use CentOS on their laptop? Does wireless and suspend work ok? Are there packages for the usual desktop stuff like libreoffice, sylpheed and so on? Machine is Toshiba Portege R935. It's

low end file server with h/w RAID - recommendations
I just put a call into AT&T Office 365 asking them to explain the spoof warning thing... To answer your question.... At the moment, no I can't. I like HPE stuff, we bought a DL380 gen9 say five months ago and totally happy with it. In fairness, its running Server 2012 r2 too but I didn't run into the hardware gotchas I did on the other stuff. It just seems HPE skimped on their lower

Mounting directories below share level
>From my investigations, and searching the archives, it seems that smbfs can only mount shares, and not directories under the share i.e. smbmount //host/share /mnt works smbmount //host/share/directory /mnt doesn't work Our W2K3 server has user home directories in a tree where there are no user rights to the next node up the tree (level1), which is the directory on the share, i.e.

Improvement: SiteMapper - working ideas as a possible RoR''s routing replacement
Hello, I''ve done potencial replacement for RoR''s routing mechanism. It just works as an independent class so you can try bundled examples withou installing anything else. I didn''t integrated it into Rails (as a plugin?) because I don''t know if anyone would appreciate it etc. SiteMapper features: -------------------- 1. uses regexp mask to get variables from
