Inheritable Permissions Issue
I have a Centos 3 server running Samba 3.0.28. It's a member of an AD domain on a Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard x64 SP2 box. From the W2K3 server I can see the samba share I created. Using the Security tab in the Windows Explorer file properties dialog I can add and remove users and change their permissions. However, in the Permissions tab of the Advanced Security Settings dialog,

playing mp3's
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 My main system is Fedora. To get mp3's working I added freshrpms to my yum.conf file. This allowed me to install xmms-mp3. Should I add freshrpms to CentOS? I searched google and didn't find much on this topic. If there is another way to get mp3's and other multimedia working I would like to know. - -- You can get my public PGP key at

Hype The Time Quest Regression
There's an old Ubisoft game called "Hype the Time Quest". For many Wine versions, Wine could not get past the Hype installer. It would go up to 117% and fail. Then a version came where if you unchecked the DirectX check, the install would work (or maybe that's all you had to do to begin with). But the game would fail to start with an error about MaiD3Dvr_bleu.exe. Then a Wine

check_box_tag is limited?
Hello all. Am I going totally nuts here and just want to check (Natch!) something. A normal check_box has two value posssibilities. One for checked and one for unchecked, the value gets submitted with a form. The check_box_tag on the other hand, has a checked_value (Called just ''value'') and for the unchecked value...nothing, zip, nada. This means that if you submit a form with

How to update MySQL with CentOS 6 in most unintrusive way - in regard to perl and PHP packages
Dear fellow CentOS users, for my few hobby projects (web games + forums) I have been using CentOS 5 (then 6) with Drupal and PostgreSQL plus few custom PHP and Perl scripts written by mysef. Since PostgreSQL version delivered with CentOS package has been a bit dated, I always used the PGDG packages: # rpm -qa | grep -i pgdg pgdg-centos93-9.3-1.noarch

CheckBox and Ruby on Rails
I have two questions: 1. I have a checkbox on a form and after submit I need to check the status of the checkbox. Any idea how to see what the checkbox is set to? I am assuming this must be done in the controller or model but cannot figure it out. 2. On load I am checking for a cookie and need to determine if the checkbox should be checked or unchecked. Is there a way for me to do this from

changing file permissions problems
For samba 2.2.8a Well, I have found that the problem I'm seeing is that in W2K it will not let you remove all permissions from say Everyone. For example in UNIX the file permission is set to 0644. I want to remove the read permission for Everyone from W2K. In the Security tab, when I try to uncheck the read for Everyone and then hit "Apply" the read just gets

Trouble running 'alsamixer' as normal user on headless box with minimal system
Hi, I just transformed an old Pentium III 500 into a headless jukebox. It's installed in the basement, near the stereo. There's only a base CentOS system on it (GNOME unchecked, package customization checked and then everything unchecked). From there on, I just installed the ALSA utils, and vorbis-tools. The machine is only supposed to do one thing (and to do it well, UNIX philosophy
