iSCSI connection corrupts Xen block devices.
Hi, hope the week has started out well for everyone. This report may be in the FWIW department since there may be a fundamental reason why this doesn''t work. We elected to report this to the Xen community since we thought any behavior which corrupted disk images needed to at least be reported. We are maintaining the Xen-SAN release which provides hotplug functionality to allow Xen

Help needed. Samba 3.2.0rc2 - IDMAP - Windows 2008 Server - ADS Integration - Winbind
Hi, I read at least 100 different documentations during the last week and didn't get it. So I decided to ask the list for help :) Unfortunately we have to move to a Windows 2008 Server ADS in our company as this is required for some other projects. But we want to keep our nice 5+ samba-server providing fast 50TB+ of storage. So we have to find a way to nicely integrate the storage with the

3Ware 9650SE tuning advice
Hello fellow sysadmins! I've assembled a whitebox system with a SuperMicro motherboard, case, 8GB of memory and a single quad core Xeon processor. I have two 9650SE-8LPML cards (8 ports each) in each server with 12 1TB SATA drives total. Three drives per "lane" on each card. CentOS 5.2 x86_64. I'm looking for advice on tuning this thing for performance. Especially for the

Centos 3.6 - iscsi target issues
Hello, I'm running a server that needs to have a kernel 2.4.xxx. So now I'm running a CentOS 3.6 with kernel 2.4.21-37.0.1.ELsmp. Now, I want to make this server usable for ISCSI, so I started to install the ISCSI target, and the problems begin. If I try to install ISCSI version 0.4.13 from source code I got the following error : The present kernel configuration has modules disabled.

kernel BUG at fs/btrfs/extent_io.c:4052 (kernel 3.5.3)
Hi all, Last week we had 2 times an "uncorrectable ecc memory error" crash on our server on the same memory module. After removing the faulty module and restarting the server, everything was working again. However, yesterday we had a soft lockup and had to restart the server again. No warning or ecc error this time. Everything is working now, but we want to avoid this in the future

High Number of VMs
Hi, I''m curious about how you guys deal with big virtualization installations. To this date we only dealt with a small number of VM''s (~10)on not too big hardware (2xquad xeons+16GB ram). As I''m the "storage guy" I find it quite convenient to present to the dom0s one LUN per VM that makes live migration possible but without the cluster file system or cLVM

Are some CentOS package out of date compared to RH?
According to the RH5 Errata, the most recent package for scsi-target-utils is scsi-target-utils-1.0.8-0.el5.x86_64.rpm However the latest update via yum on CentOS is labeled scsi-target-utils-0.0-6.20091205snap.el5_5.3 Additionally, the package info says it is not compatible with iSCSI yet, which is false! There were some critical updates for this package according to RedHat, so how can I be

Possible to run iscsi-target and initiator on same server?
I am trying to install Oracle RAC in a two node cluster for testing purposes, so performance is not something that concerns me. I just want to go through the process all the way to creating a database. I have all the prerequisites except the shared storage and thought I'd give this a try. I'm running: - CentOS 5.3 kernel 2.6.18-164.el5 - iscsitarget-1.4.18-1 -

selinux policy remnant according to /bin/ls on CentOS 6.0 box
I installed CentOS 6.0 on 2 different x86_64 boxen. Both originally had selinux installed and enabled. I never touched selinux other than to remove as much of it as I could via rpm -e. As far as I can tell, here are the remaining packages that have something to do with it: # rpm -qa | grep -iE 'sel|pol' checkpolicy-2.0.22-1.el6.x86_64 libselinux-2.0.94-2.el6.x86_64

[PATCH 0/6] SCSI frontend and backend drivers
This patchset includes an updated version of the SCSI frontend and backend drivers. The frontend and backend drivers exchange SCSI RDMA Protocol (SRP) messages via a ring buffer. The backend driver sends SCSI commands to the user-space daemon, which performs SCSI commands and I/O operations. The backend driver uses VM_FOREIGN feature like the blktap driver for zero-copy of data pages. Like the

FNIC nested PVM
I''m trying to do nested XEN to give some of my colleagues a play area to work in, and it seems to work - but not quite. I can build the nested environment (using OVM, and I have to step back to OVM3.2.2 to allow me to do PCI passthrough), but as soon as I start up a VM with a phys device passed through, the first layer loses all connectivity to the SAN.
