Newbie, Win2K config, fails on test 8 (long)
Hi. I'm not a sysadmin, but I'm the only person in this building who knows anything about linux boxes. I'm trying to install samba to connect the box (rh7.3) to the windows network. test 8 is where I run into problems. My username and passwd are the same for both. My firewall is down. I have appended my .conf file. I've been searching around through the archives and

Differing Win & Linux user names
First off I'll admit that I'm a bit of a newbie to Samba and Linux so sorry if this is a dumb question, but I had a look and couldn't find the answer anywhere. How do I map a username on a Windows 98 box to a different username on a Linux box? For example, if my username on a Windows machine was 'Daniel Foster' and my username on the linux box was 'dan' how do I make

plot.logistic.fit.fnc
Hello, I can not get the function plot.logistic.fit.fnc() working....it returns "Error: could not find function "plot.logistic.fit.fnc"". Do I need to upload as specific package first? I am trying to check the fit of a mixed logistic model. Also, any advice for checking the assumption of independence in a mixed logistic model? Many thanks in advance, Sarah Foster

Identify listeners on log reports
Hi Marius, thanks for your reply. URL auth via usern/pass seems what I need. I fail to understand is if and how would that reflect on logs. Care to elaborate further? OpenSSH 3.2.3p1 won't compile under IRIX 6.5.14
Previously 3.2.2 would not compile under Solaris, then 3.2.3 came out with a bug fix for the problem. Now 3.2.3 won't compile under IRIX 6.5.14. I've tried using both gcc 3.0.1 and the IRIX MIPSpro 7.1 compilers. I've been compiling previous versions of OpenSSH for years using these same compilers (we haven't updated the MIPSpro compiler for 3 years, and I've been using it on

Asking for Password
Please forgive me but I am pretty new to Linux. I have Samba set up on a Server and when I go to access it from a windows workstation one, a box pops up with the resourse as \\servername\IPC$ <file://\\servername\IPC$> asking for a password. I have the right domain and my username is the same as my windows password? Why would I be getting these messages? What am I doing wrong?

NT Server Tools
Hello! I'm the email admin for a reasonably large Exchange/NT system, trying to make a go of a Linux/SLOX replacement as an example of what can be done. Obviously, to do my job I need to run a fair bit of Windows software, and this is where Wine comes in. One of the real biggies is the NT Server Administration tools (the ones provided to run from a workstation) such as USRMGR.EXE and

booting domU with multiple concatenated ramdisks?
Hi! Some bootloaders (eg. syslinux) have to ability to load multiple ramdisks, effectively concatenating them. This makes it very easy to augment ramdisks, like eg. customizing an installer. Can I do something similar with XEN? Separating the ramdisk cpio arhives with commas in the config file didn''t work... -- Thanks, Feri. _______________________________________________ Xen-users

looping through tasks
Hi, I'm moving (slowly) to R from STATA. I often have need to move through a set of tasks across a series of years. In this case, you can see that I'm mimicking -reshape- in STATA, but I'm less interested in the task than in programming R. library(foreign) mydata<-read.dta("z:\example.dta") for (y in 2000:2002) {

Identify listeners on log reports
We have businesses users listening to 17 different icecast streams. We're looking for a way to identify via icecast logs what each user is listening. At the moment in order to do so, we're cloning the streams for each user, so that separate logs are generated. As the number of user grow, this approach is becoming unsustainable. Is there an alternative, more lean way to do this? Thanks
