centos-virt CPU microcode updates?
Not sure about CentOS 6, but this was covered previously (at least for 7...not sure how much they differ)...not that I can find the message now, but here's what I recall/pieced together from bash history that works on CentOS 7: If the microcode you want is in the microcode_ctl package: mkdir -p /etc/microcode_ctl/ucode_with_caveats/ touch /etc/microcode_ctl/ucode_with_caveats/force yum

Size and performance efficient rewriting of the `dash.test` built-in
== Proposition A. Do not implement `-a' and `-o'. == Why. 1. Most of the `test` usage is 2 or 3 arg. ops. 2. Issues (and possible `||', `&&' substitutions), described in [0] [0] http://www.opengroup.org/onlinepubs/000095399/utilities/test.html 3. In case of usage of it, `exec /usr/bin/test $args` can be implemented. Thus, smart users of `-a' and `-o' will

/lib/firmware/microcode.dat update on CentOS 6
Once upon a time, Chris Murphy <lists at colorremedies.com> said: > "We recommend that OEMs, cloud service providers, system > manufacturers, software vendors and end users stop deployment of > current versions." Current versions of what? Microcode? Well, that's the only thing Intel provides for CPUs, so that's all it can be. > What these means for people who

OT: Forum or mailing list for Bash-related questions?
Hi, The subject says it all. After a few years of writing scripts the quick and dirty way, I've decided to take the plunge and learn Bash correctly, using the O'Reilly Bash Cookbook. I'm currently looking for the right place to ask questions, but curiously enough, Google searches about "bash forum" result in nothing conclusive. I took a peek in the corresponding USENET

Dear All, An update just brought on my CenOS 6 boxes updated microcode.dat files: /lib/firmware/microcode.dat Does anybody know off hand what (how critical) is that, as, if it is related to most famous these days trouble with CPU hardware, I will need to reboot relevant boxes to have new microcode loaded. But if it is not that critical, it can wait till next reboot. Thanks a lot and

What's amazing to me is, after "Intel Inside - don't divide" (their 486 debacle), they didn't learn and have a better plan for addressing these kinds of things. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Chris Murphy" <lists at colorremedies.com> To: "centos" <centos at centos.org> Sent: Wednesday, January 24, 2018 12:06:01 PM Subject: Re: [CentOS]

[PATCH 0/3] Xen Microcode update driver for 2.6.38
From: Jeremy Fitzhardinge <jeremy.fitzhardinge@citrix.com> Hi all, This series adds a new microcode driver for Xen. The Xen hypervisor can deal with all the low-level details of doing a microcode update (Intel vs AMD, doing all the physical CPUs present on the system, current and future, etc), so all the driver has to do is make a hypercall to upload the microcode into Xen.
