Puppet LVM create volume maximum size
Hello, Using the LVM module/providers from the forge I want to create a logical volume at the maximum size and I cannot work out how to do this. physical_volume -> volume_group -> logical_volume -> filesystem -> mount All works fine but you have to hard code the size for the logical volume. Anyone know if this is possible ? Thanks Paul -- You received this message because you

What are the commands (ordered) I need to perform? I failed to find clear howto. vg-data has only one partition, total size is over 1TB, free space is about 500GB so

Install without LVM -
How do I install from the centos 6.5 dvd without LVM? Nothing I have tried will permit me to make my own layout unless I accept LVM. Bob -- http://www.qrz.com/db/w2bod Box10 Fedora-20/64bit Linux/XFCE

to lvm or not to lvm - why/when to use lvm
Hi, I was wondering, why/when it is useful or when should I avoid to use LVM. I think the big advantage of LVMing is if you modify (rezising, ...) disk and filesystem layouts "a lot". Are there any real pros or cons for following situations regarding e.g. management and speed? e.g.: I do have a server system raid for which the disk layout will not change; e.g. /var /usr /home will

Help request...recovering LVM on centos 4.2
I installed a Centos 4.x system using a lvm install across four HDDs. It is my first install using LVM. System had a power-failure and stopped booting up. A new trainee simply took out the HDDs and restarted the file-server on a fresh HDDs. Now the problemis that the four HDDs have data. But the order of the HDDs (of install....1st primary, 2nd primary etc.) is unknown. Earlier we used to boot

Looking for a life-save LVM Guru
Dear All, I am in desperate need for LVM data rescue for my server. I have an VG call vg_hosting consisting of 4 PVs each contained in a separate hard drive (/dev/sda1, /dev/sdb1, /dev/sdc1, and /dev/sdd1). And this LV: lv_home was created to use all the space of the 4 PVs. Right now, the third hard drive is damaged; and therefore the third PV (/dev/sdc1) cannot be accessed anymore. I would like

Radeon HD 4550 driver
Upgraded the kernel to the latest, then tried to rebuild the proprietary Catalyst driver for a Radeon HD 4550 on a Dell Optiplex 980. The install dies, with a c error. Anyone else out there succeed in building one on the 2.6.18-194.17.1.el5-x86_64 kernel? I went to the ATI website, and the "installation instructions" include that it needs a) 32 bit software (which? dunno) and b) a

not using LVM for Linux VM guests?
I came across an old post comment yesterday (from http://echenh.blogspot.com/2010/04/how-to-extend-lvm-on-vmware-guest-os.html ) discussing the "hack" of LVM on Linux VM guests and whether it's better not to use it to simplify disk management. I've re-posted the comment below, does it sound reasonable? Is it better to not use LVM on Linux VM guests? --Russell

disk device lvm iscsi questions ....
Hi, I have an iscsistorage which I attached to a new centos 6.3 server. I added logic volumes as usual, the block devices (sdb & sdc) showed up in dmesg; I can mount and access the stored files. Now we did an firmware software update to that storage (while unmounted/detached from the fileserver) and after reboot of the storage and reatache the iscsi nodes I do get new devices. (sdd &

plugin sync and different platforms
Hi All, I''m trying to write some plugins that should only be sync''d if they''re for a specific platform. For example, in our environment we''re supporting Solaris, Ubuntu, Fedora, CentOS and Mac OS X. We''ve developed some OS X plugins and some Solaris plugins but we''ve noticed that our Linux hosts have imported our OS X plugins and now throw

new RAID5 array: 3x500GB with XFS
Hello all, I have yesterday after some typos, sent my ext3 RAID5 array to the void... I want to recreate it now, but I read on http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Disk_Optimization that you can optimize the filesystem on top of the RAID. Will this wiki article be exactly the same for XFS? Is it worth the trouble to also create an LVM volume on the RAID array? Regards, Coert

problems with PV snapshots
Hello, I have a Centos 6.2 clsuter with a CLVM partition on which I have a GFS2 file system. The problem rises when I make a snapshot from my FC NetAPP FAS2020. After I make the snapshot (it is a rw snapshot) of my LUN, I am not able to mount it from any of my cluster nodes, because the Physical Volume is seen two times one time on the standard LVM partition and the other time on the snapshot
