Time taken Backup using ZFS Send Receive
I have been using ZFS send and receive for a while and I noticed that when I try to do a send on a zfs file system of about 3 gig plus it took only about 3 minutes max. zfs send application/sample at back > /backup/sample.zfs However when I tried to send a file system that''s about 20 gig, it took almost an hour. I would had expected that since 3 gig took 3 mins, then 20 gig should

Centos6 Migration glitch - ZFS-FUSE
Folks My experiments with installing ZFS-FUSE in a Centos 6 system reveal behavior different from that observed in Centos 5.6. The version of ZFS-FUSE is that provided on the EPEL repository, and was installed on a 32-bit machine. I use it because of its deduplication facility. In Centos 5.6, the facility worked as advertised. In Centos 6, however, the system "hung" in

Ubuntu and ZFS
Moved from Richard's blog to here.... A couple of people have requested removing the dependency on zfs-fuse from the ubuntu packages that Richard released last week, and there is some confusion about the state of ZFS in Ubuntu. There are 2 Linux compatible implementations of ZFS, zfs-fuse (http://gitweb.zfs-fuse.net/) and ZFS on Linux (http://zfsonlinux.org/). ZFS-fuse is in the official

ZFS on Linux
I am planning to use ZFS on my Centos 5.2 systems. The data I am storing is very large text files where each file can range from 10M to 20G. I am very interested on the compression feature of ZFS, and it seems no other native Linux FS supports it. My question are: Is ZFS stable? How does it scale for very large filesytems, ie, 2TB to 9TB? How is the performance of fuse? I plan to use it on my

libguestfs mounting solaris 10 ZFS guest
Not sure if this possible, but I have a KVM guest running Solaris 10 with the OS on ZFS and I am trying to use libguestfs/guestfish/guestmount to get to the VM. I am running Red Hat EL 5.4 with EPEL rpms as required. The VM is on a LV and it boots fine, but I can't seem to get the syntax correct to get libguestfs to deal with it. Guestmount seemed like the best option because it supports FUSE

libguestfs and zfs-fuse
I'm wondering whether or not anyone has tried to use guestmount on an image with a ZFS partition (MBR partition table). I can't seem to find much on the internet regarding it, but I do see hints that may lead me to a solution. I'm under the impression that libguestfs can use what ever is available to the kernel on the host -- in my case I have zfs-use installed and running. I

Help:Is zfs-fuse''s performance is not good
I wonder if this is the right place to ask, as the Filesystem in User Space implementation is a separate project. In Solaris ZFS runs in kernel. FUSE implementations are slow, no doubt. Same goes for other FUSE implementations, such as for NTFS. Regards, Tonmaus -- This message posted from opensolaris.org

[PATCH pkg-libvirt/libguestfs] Split off ZFS support from libguestfs0.
Hilko, This is an experimental patch showing how to split libguestfs into subpackages, so the main libguestfs0 doesn't depend on everything. Splitting packages only works for packages which are in the appliance (ie. in appliance/packagelist or supermin.d/packages). In this patch, only zfs-fuse [which previously caused trouble for users: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1053911] has been

zfs performance on fuse (Linux) compared to other fs
Hi, ok I know zfs-fuse is still incomplete and performance has not been considered, but still, before I''m going to use it for my /home I wanted a rough estimate. Another benchmark already asserted that zfs by itself, on Solaris, is a very fast beast (http://cmynhier.blogspot.com/2006/05/zfs-benchmarking.html), faster than ext3 on Linux and also faster than UFS. Interestingly UFS seems

Gluster on ZFS: cannot open empty files
Hi everyone, I've got glusterfs-server/glusterfs-client version 3.4.0final-ubuntu1~precise1 (from the semiosis PPA) running on Ubuntu 13.04. I'm trying to share ZFS (ZFS on Linux 0.6.2-1~precise from the zfs-stable PPA) using GlusterFS. When creating the ZFS filesystem and the Gluster volume, I accepted all the defaults and then: - I enabled deduplication for the ZFS filesystem (zfs set

ZFS @ centOS
I have trouble finding definitive information about this. I am considering the use of SME 7.5.1 (centOS based) for my server needs, but I do want to use ZFS and I thus far I have only found information about the ZFS-Fuse implementation and unclear hints that there is another way. Phoronix reported that http://kqinfotech.com/ would release some form of ZFS for the kernel but I have found nothing.

ZFS for Linux?
Hello, A college friend of mine is using Debian Linux on his desktop, and wondered if he could tap into ZFS goodness without adding another server in his small quiet apartment or changing the desktop OS. According to his research, there are some kernel modules for Debian which implement ZFS, or a FUSE variant. Can anyone comment how stable and functional these are? Performance is a
