Any plans to update kernel-utils for newer smartmontools
I have SATA drives and have found that the newest smartmontools package
will retrieve smart data from SATA drives with the '-d ata' switch.
Is there a devel/testing package of kernel-utils available or should I
just roll my own?

smartmontools
I'm in the process of rolling out the upgrade from (mostly) 5.3 to 5.4.
One of my servers started throwing the following:
Nov 1 05:22:51 <server> kernel: target4:0:0: FAST-80 WIDE SCSI 160.0
MB/s DT (12.5 ns, offset 62)
Nov 1 05:22:51 <server> kernel: target4:0:1: FAST-80 WIDE SCSI 160.0
MB/s DT (12.5 ns, offset 62)
into my logs every half hour. I don't see anything

newer smartctl?
If y'all remember the problem I posted a while back, with a 3TB drive for
userspace loosing it on a server, and spitting DRDY errors, but which work
on everything else. Well, enough research, and conversation, and I may
have found the problem: it's a Caviar Green, meant for a desktop, and the
controller in the server has issues, because it uses TLER:

2 Servers different gid?
Hi All,
I have 2 servers both running a compiled version of samba and winbind. They
use my Windows Active Directory for user authentication via kerberoes. All
that works fine and I can see and authenticate as any user. Every user on
both machines have the same uid, the problem is the groups from the windows
domain have different gid?s on each of the servers. I am using nfs to export

[PATCH] p2v: un-duplicate common dependencies
Move all the dependencies with the same name in all the distributions to
a single list at the end.
There should be no change to the package list used to build the p2v ISO.

I have a few things in my Logwatch that I want to make sure I understand

Smartctl & SATA
I've just installed my first system with a SATA drive and I've noticed that
smartctl isn't supported under libata
According to the smartmontools home page, SATA will require a patch that is
still in development.

smartd and 3ware on centos5
Hi,
I've CentOS5 box with 3ware RAID controller in it. I can't get the
tw_cli command line tool to work, and smartd also barks on me. The
tw_cli simply doesn't see the controller, no errors logged anywhere.
When starting smartd, it is much more verbose. I'm getting a bunch of
messages like this:
Oct 9 22:15:15 toporko kernel: program smartd is using a deprecated

SAS Hard Disk 15K rpm on CentOS 5.8
Hi,
I get these below information. Please help me understand about "SMART
Health Status: FAILURE PREDICTION THRESHOLD EXCEEDED: ascq=0x5
[asc=5d, ascq=5]" and what does that error mean. Does it mean that the
SAS disk 0 is failing and has serious issues and needs to be replaced
and also do i need to run health status test with different
options/flags or switches.

smartd.conf get overridden
Yohoo!
I have some issues with the smartd in CentOS5/x64
I edited the /etc/smartd.conf for my needs and restarted the smartd with
"service smartd restart". But the start script is overriding my file. I
checked it and saw the following lines:
---------------/etc/init.d/smartd------------
case "$1" in
