Strange behaviour with rsync and mounted truecrypt volume
Hello,
when i mount a truecrpyt volume with truecrypt 5.1a and
synchronize data locally with rsync (version 2.6.9 protocol version 29) like this way:
$ truecrypt myvolume.tc
$ rsync -av /home/oliver/myfolder /media/truecrypt
The myfolder is copied to /media/truecrypt like it should.
But when i dismount the truecrypt volume
and mount it again:
$ truecrypt -d /media/truecrypt
$ truecrypt

truecrypt & kernel 2.6.24
Hi all,
Has anyone used TrueCrypt on a XEN based machine before? I'm running
CentOS 5.3 with kernel 2.6.18 but when I launch TrueCrypt, it keeps on
telling me I need kernel 2.6.24 or later.
"Your system uses an old version of the Linux Kernel.
Due to a bug in the Linux Kernel, your system may stop responding when
writing data to a TrueCrypt volume. This problem can be solved by

truecrypt on synology as subfolder
Just a small question.
==============
I was really just meaning to ask whether there are issues with running
truecrypt inside a samba share.
My system had never had any issues but now I was writing to a folder
that is a truecrypt mount inside a samba share and the smbd process
writing into it blocked or is still "D" waiting for IO and I cannot kill
it.
So the question was whether

Rsync Truecrypt
I have seen people say both that rsync can efficiently copy truecrypt
volumes. I got it working once with deltacopy but as I'm trying to get it
to work from the command line, I cannot. It just transfers the whole file.
I am using -rvs -inplace switches. Does anybody have any suggestions?

hard drive question - WD red
I see a really good price, and better for quantity, for 3TB drives. Now,
I've been down on WD for a couple of years, since I found that they'd
protected certain h/d parms from being changed (like TLER). The ones I'm
looking at are the Red, which seems to be a new color (at least to me),
and one technical review I've read says that they're intended for NAS,
etc, and you can

[How-To?] Using Syslinux AltMBR + TrueCrypt System Encryption (RFE: swap drive ID's)
Just achieved success using syslinux to multi-OS boot, including a WinXP
System (boot) partition that's been encrypted with TrueCrypt (TC).
You'll need syslinux version 3.81-pre13 or newer to get a working
altmbr.bin file. I used:

Failing WD desktop drive in mirror, how to identify?
I have a desktop system with 2 ZFS mirrors. One drive in one mirror is
starting to produce read errors and slowing things down dramatically. I
detached it and the system is running fine. I can''t tell which drive it is
though! The error message and format command let me know which pair the bad
drive is in, but I don''t know how to get any more info than that like the
serial number

Large Drives
The time has come to expand my OpenSolaris NAS.
Right now I have 6 1TB Samsung Spinpoints in a Raidz2 configuration. I also have a mirrored root pool.
The Raidz2 configuration should be for my most critical data - but right now it is holding everything so I need to add some more pools and move some data around.
To start I need a vdev I will call "temp" that acts as a networked bit

Any experiences with newer WD Red drives?
Might be slightly OT as it isn't necessarily a CentOS related issue.
I've been using WD Reds as mdraid components which worked pretty well
for non-IOPS intensive workloads.
However, the latest C7 server I built, ran into problems with them on
on a Intel C236 board (SuperMicro X11SSH) with tons of "ata bus error
write fpdma queued". Googling on it threw up old suggestions to

WD caviar/mpt issues
I know that this has been well-discussed already, but it''s been a few months - WD caviars with mpt/mpt_sas generating lots of retryable read errors, spitting out lots of beloved " Log info 31080000 received for target" messages, and just generally not working right.
(SM 836EL1 and 836TQ chassis - though I have several variations on theme depending on date of purchase: 836EL2s,

WD RE4-GP Dropped From Raid
Hi All,
I have a WD RE4-GP which dropped an Adaptec 51645 RAID controller. I ran a
smartctl short test on the drive and it failed with a read error. So I ran
the Western Digital's own diagnostic software (DLGDIAG), both the short
and extended test on the drive and it passed with no errors. So I ran the
smartctl short test again and again it failed. I then ran smartctl long
test and that

Rsync will not work with WD network drive!
Hi. I have an Western Digital network drive My Book World Edition 500GB.. I
have installed cwrsync and try to sync a folder on my local machine(Windows

is that rsync copies folders and files, but the files seems to be HIDDEN at
the destination. I have tried several versions of rsync and cygwin, and also

Speed problem Ubuntu < WD TV Live
Dear all,
I have experiencing some speed issues recently when moving files using
Samba between a linux box (Kubuntu 10.10) and a media player called WD
TV Live.
Both are wired to a 100 Mb network, together with a Windows 7 box. In
principle I believe is not a hardware issue. When I move files between
the WD TV Live and the Windows box I get speeds of around 8 MB/s.
Between Kubuntu and WDTV I get
