Is it okay?
Hi, I have downloaded the following version: CentOS-5.5-i386-LiveCD-Release2.iso from the mirror: http://ftp.iitm.ac.in/centos/5.5/isos/i386/ What I want to ask is that 'Release2' is the complete OS and after installation we can use 'yum update'. So at first, is it enough (as I am not going to download the complete set of 7 CDs)? -- Regards, Parshwa Murdia Making the simple

Installation question
Hi, I am new in the world of CentOS and Linux. I am not a computer professional but want to do work in Linux, for which I am trying to learn the Linux basics. Having a PC at home and somebody told me CentOS is a great Linux distro for stability. I am having some basic queries which are as follows: 1. I am having the PC and already installed is Fedora Core 11 as well as Windows XP (dual boot).

Adaptec SCSI Card 2930LP supported by CentOS 5.x?
Hi, for a specific application we need a low-profile SCSI card (PCI) with external 50pin connector. I thought about getting an "Adaptec SCSI Card 2930LP". However I was not able to find any usable information about wether this card is supported by Linux/CentOS 5.x or not. Does anyone have this card working with a CentOS 5.x machine? Alternatively: Are there any linux-supported

Using a composite device under Centos 4.8 - no mouse clicks
I recently got an EEEbox. This is an Atom based nettop. It came with a wireless keyboard/mouse which talk to a 2.4Ghz USB adapter (a Chicony device as it turns out). Now if I plug this adapter into a Centos 4.8 machine both the keyboard and mouse are detected... but mouse clicks aren't. I can move the mouse, the scroll wheel works, but buttons 1/2/3 aren't detected. Neither in X nor

Does Cent OS Come With Any Kind Of Customer Portal Application(s)
Other than coding something yourself...does Cent OS come with any kind of portal application(s) that would allow remote users to purchase a domain name through me or log in and edit their domains settings and go active in my DNS? Has anyone set anything like this up before using Cent OS? The closest thing I can think of is a Register.com, GoDaddy.com, or Load.com type interface that customers can

Admin stuff
Is there something odd going on? The question about the errors in mcelog just showed up *again*, and it's the original that I answered this morning. The question about something - was it the md? - original seems as though it's shown up more than twice today, with the same timestamp, I think. Is anyone else seeing this, or is it my host's mailserver? mark

Installing Cent OS from a usb flash drive
I recently acquired a Fujitsu Lifebook 1610. Unfortunately, the machine was missing a lot of the stuff that would've come with it brand new, mainly the usb cdrom drive. Currently, I'm running Fedora on it, and I installed it using a usb flash drive with the help of a program called unetbootin(Probably not spelled right). to load the ISO onto the USB drive. I've successfully used

New administrator and upgrading systems
Hi there folks. I've been watching the never ending "CentOS 5.4 OMG WHEN?" threads for the last few days / weeks and had a question. I'm pretty new to anything rpm based. I used Red Hat 9 back in college, but that's about it. Currently, I do have a few Cent OS servers and we're slowly migrating from Debian to CentOS for various reasons. Since 5.3 - 5.4 is going to be

Do most people today have /boot on a separate partition, or do they (you) have it on the / partition ? -- Timothy Murphy gayleard /at/ eircom.net School of Mathematics, Trinity College, Dublin

ETA
Dear developers, I don't care for reasons, arguments, or flamefests. I need to plan my workload. By now I have half a dozen servers overdue for reimaging. I can put this off for another week or two, but not really much longer. There's obviously no point in installing centos 5 on any new machine. So I need to know: is there any point in my waiting another week, or should I just say

I hear that backuppc does *not* have a native *Doze client. On the other hand, I know amanda's been around a long time, and it does. Opinions on amanda, folks? mark

Upgrade
I am currently running CentOS 4.5 (which, through many Yum updates) now appears to be CentOD 4.8. 4.8 is still rather old, but I havbe lots of stuff (files and stuff installed). I would like to install Fedora but I am worried about losing all the stuff I have. I would have to back everything up, uninstall/reinstall things, etc. I am wondering whether there is some way to upgrade to Fedora from

USB Serial ports (ttyACMn) CentOS 6.7 (64-bit) vs. CentOS 6.7 (64-bit)
I have two computers: both running CentOS 6.7, 64-bit, with kernel 2.6.32-573.12.1.el6.x86_64. One is a laptop with an 2 core Intel processor and the other is a desktop machine with a 4 core AMD processor. Both with selinux enabled. I have a USB serial port device (a RR-CirKits LCC-Buffer USB). On the desktop I am getting this error: sauron.deepsoft.com% sudo minicom Device /dev/ttyACM0

Firefox 78 under CentOS 6 -- no sound?
I did a yum update on my CentOS 6 laptop and it upgraded Firefox to 78, and FF stopped seeing my mic and speakers. Is there some magic I need to do? As a short term (?) fix, I downgraded back to Firefox 68. Lilo for CentOS 5?
Does there exist a version of Lilo built for x86_64 CentOS 5? Need tip on an inexpensive printer for college student using CentOS 5.5
Sending my son back to college with a dual-boot laptop with Win 7 and CentOS 5.5. He uses Win7 to manage his iPod and SW that sometimes issued by a professor for a specific course...otherwise he uses CentOS for everything else. That setup worked well last year, except for printing. He has a low-end Cannon printer that is not supported in the Linux realm. Most of his coursework was uploaded to
