nss_winbind problem
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Well, I think this is not the only time you guys ever seen that kind of mails. First of all, I did checked all that is to be checked before writing to list. wbinfo -u and wbinfo -g work flawless. Also wbinfo -a, so I can authenticate without problems. The setup is a normal trust setup where domain X (my domain) trusts domain Y (another company).

upgrade samba
Hello to all, is the first time I write to this mailing list, I wanted to ask you a hand about an upgrade of samba I did on a centos 5.5 i386 with kernel 2.6.18-308.24.1.el5, which I updated with yum samba3x-3.3. 8-0.52.el5_5.2 bringing it to samba3x-3.6.6-0.129.el5. Now I can not put the computer to the domain, the error is that I find myself Jan 24 17:53:03 VmPDC smbd[15115]: [2013/01/24

samba version to use on CentOS?
I see via yum that there is "samba" and there is "samba3x" available for CentOS (my boxes are hooked to the main CentOS repo, Fedora EPEL, and RPMFORGE). 'samba' is 3.0.33 'samba3x' is 3.3.8 Is there any down-side to upgrading to 'samba3x' and running 3.3.8 instead of 3.0.33? I'm assuming that, in general, I should be running the latest

need recipe for samba to do user authentication against a centos 5.5 openldap server (NO IDMAPS! NO PDC!)
Hi all, Please help Ive been wasting days at this... I am not trying to create a PDC, I am not joining an active directory, I am not needing samba schema in my openldap (or do I?), I am not trying to use winbind and idmaps for translations from SID to UID/GID, I just want my samba server which shares linux home directories to authenticate user+password against my existing linux based openldap

Samba3x daily logged errors with Win7 clients
In the course of upgrading from CentOS 5.4 to CentOS 5.5 I changed from using the samba (v3.0.x) packages to the samba3x (v3.3.8) packages, mostly because the newer version was said to better support Win7. The Samba server services Linux, WinXP, and Win7 clients. Now I get many, many errors logged to the Samba logs shortly after 3:00 AM, but only from the Win7 clients. I get roughly 430

mixed versions, mixed UIDs
Hello, I've inherited a set of servers running Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.9. They have some variant of samba 3.3 on them (e.g. Version 3.3.8-0.52.el5_5.2). These servers are using Samba and Winbind as a way to bind to our Active Directory environment as domain members. We also have a domain member file server running the following: Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.6

Winbind Issues with Server 2003/2008
Good morning all, I really hate emailing lists, but I've come to a wall that I just cant work out how to get past at the moment, so am hoping for some community assistance if possible. Some background: We are running Windows Server 2003 on all of our domain controllers, and are in the middle of migrating to server 2008 R2. We have unix exentions enabled (rfc2307 I believe), and manage

Does control of NFS4 ACL's from NetApps work for RHEL Samba servers with Windows XP clients at all?
Good morning! I'm reviewing some corporate storage setups involving NetApps, where the NetApp stores what they call "UNIX Qtrees". So far, so good: those allow the setting of access to the data with NFS4 ACL's, which are fairly sophisticated and allow multiple groups or even multiple users to be granted write access.or read access, besides the normal UNIX group owner. That works

NTLMv2 compatibility in Samba 3.0.33 standard packages
Good afternoon/morning/evening everyone, I've been running into the problem of clients using Windows 7 with CentOS 5.X and file/printer sharing. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the stand samba-3.0.33-x.x.x packages DO NOT provide compatibility with Windows Vista/7. I've had to manually compile samba from source or use the samba3x packages to fix the problem. Just wondering if we're

samba 3 performance with windows 7 workstations
My customer has a Centos Linux 5.10 server running Samba 3. (Samba version 3.0.33-3.40.el5_10) The machine is about three years old. I suggested that they should consider replacing it with a Centos 6 machine and Samba 4, but they decided as it was doing its job without any issues to keep it as is. I also suggested updating to samba3x but they decided not to do this. I recently installed a centos

Guest access broken for Win7 between 3.3.8 and 3.5.4?
I've been running samba on RHEL5 for the past couple of years with XP clients. Late last year, in order to support new Win7 clients, I upgraded from samba-3.0.33 packages to samba3x-3.3.8 (from the Red Hat-managed configuration tree) and after some struggles got everything working. But now after upgrading to samba3x-3.5.4 I am only able to connect as a known user and not as a guest. Relevant

NTLM auth fails after upgrade to centos 5.6
Hi, I upgraded a working centos5.5 with squid using ntlm auth to centos 5.6 today. After doing so squid failed to authenticate. Downgrading samba3x to samba3x-3.3.8-0.52.el5_5.2 got things working again. In the squid config I have, auth_param ntlm program /usr/bin/ntlm_auth --helper-protocol=squid-2.5-ntlmssp in the squid config and this was working until the upgrade. testparm shows no errors

windows 7 unable to join domain
Hi, I'm currently running Samba3x-3.3.8-0.51 on CentOS 5.5. I currently have many Windows XP clients associated with the domain and behaving correctly. However, I am unable to join a Windows 7 PC. I receive "The specified network name is no longer available." I've verified that DNS is configured correctly, and as stated XP machines have no problem joining. Per some googling,
