LVM change disk
Dear all, I have a 4,1TB Logical volume consist of four disks with size of 2TB, 1TB, 1TB, and 500GB. The LV currently full. I plan to change the 1Tb disks and 500Gb disks. I plan to remove one 1TB disk or the 500GB so that I can replace it with 2TB disk. most LVM tutorial ask to use pvmove to move phisical extent to the new disk. The problem is that I have no SATA port left so that I can't

lvm cache + qemu-kvm stops working after about 20GB of writes
Hello, I would really appreciate some help/guidance with this problem. First of all sorry for the long message. I would file a bug, but do not know if it is my fault, dm-cache, qemu or (probably) a combination of both. And i can imagine some of you have this setup up and running without problems (or maybe you think it works, just like i did, but it does not): PROBLEM LVM cache writeback

lvm errors after replacing drive in raid 10 array
I thought I'd test replacing a failed drive in a 4 drive raid 10 array on a CentOS 5.2 box before it goes online and before a drive really fails. I 'mdadm failed, removed', powered off, replaced drive, partitioned with sfdisk -d /dev/sda | sfdisk /dev/sdb, and finally 'mdadm add'ed'. Everything seems fine until I try to create a snapshot lv. is it possible to resive a PV in LVM and add more LV's ?
Hi all I have a remote server (i.e SSH access only) which was incorrectly partitioned and I urgently need to get it up and running. It's got a 500GB HDD, but the PV is only 10GB big, so I can't add more LV's to to. P.S. This is on LVM, btw. using an lvm for kvm vm
Is there a simple way to directly install a vm on an lvm (or proably seperate LVM's for root and swap)? For example something like: lvcreate -L 10G -n testvm_root vg_myvg lvcreate -L 1G -n testvm_swap Then somehow setup the VM to be able to directly install and boot the vm from these LV's. How do I do this? Could you then pause the virtual machine and safely take an LVM snapshot,

Disk Partitioning Questions....
I am working on starting Virtural Servers at my office and have questions regarding disk partitioning recommendations. I am using SLES 10 SP2..... RAID 5.... 280G available... no external storage... 1 - Should the DOM be on primary partition and then place the VM''s in LVM? 2 - Should I create partitions in the LVM for each of my VM''s separately or can they all reside on the

lvm and kvm
I am performing some configuration testing on a kvm host. When installing a guest operating system is it advisable to place each instance in a separate lv or better to accept the default and store them on the root file system? Respecting lvm, does one configure lvs in a virtual server to take space from the main vg or does one allocate lv space from inside that allocated to the virtual instance?

LVM Read/Write speed <10% drive''s normal speed
Hello all, I''ve been searching through the archives and the internet for a while now, and can''t seem to find anything that helps me out. I hope you don''t my posting this to both xen-users and linux-lvm simultaneously, but i figured it''d help keep the solution in one place... even though it''ll be the same across two places... Making a clone of an LVM-based EL5 install
Does anybody here have any idea how to make an exact copy of a drive that has LVM partitions? I'm having trouble using dd to do this for an EL5 server. We're trying to diagnose a software problem of some kind and would like an exact, perfect copy of the software running so that we can see exactly what the problem is without disturbing our production copy. It's been admin practice

LVM Snapshots -broken ? Ever worked ?
I've upgraded my x86_64 4.2 box to the latest kernel 2.6.9.34 and tried an lvm snapshot. It worked fine and I was able to mount the snapshot etc. Now I cannot seem to remove the snapshot. If I try a 'lvremove' it asks if I want to remove the 'active' snapshot, if I say yes it just hangs and the box goes to 99% wait io, however the disk lights do not come on during this. The

Using LVM snapshots to backup NTFS partitions for windows guests
Hi everyone! I''ve been reading this list for a while and I''m thinking that the best way to do backups is using LVM snapshots as discussed here several times. The problem is that when i use a LVM logical volume as windows disk, windows writes the partition table onto the LV so the LV itself is not a partition - it''s a whole disk. lvm/device-mapper does not create the

LVM storage
Hi. I have some narrow questions and a larger one. If I make an existinig LVM VG a storage pool, can I use some of the LV's for libvirt and some for the host? Or does the VG needed to be completely dedicated to virtualization? Assuming mixed use is possible, is it possible to do an LVM snapshot of an LV in use for a VM? The snapshot would have to be initiated and used on the host, I
