virsh and bash scripts
Hi,
I'm looking for a way to use virsh to connect to vCenter/VCSA and do some
simple management of the VM's in case of power loss (I'm planning to run
the script upon UPS/apcd event of power failure).
Looking through the virsh documentation, I didn't find 2 things:
1. Login through a script (I don't see any user/password, specially since
VCSA for example requires to use

NUT control of vCenter & vServer?
Thanks Bart. Unfortunately "The VIB module does not comply with the
security recommendations imposed by VMWare. You lose VMWare support by
installing this package." This pretty much rules out this option. :(
We need vCenter support, as well.

Install nested ESXi 6.x host under CentOS 7 kvm host
Hi all,
I am trying to install nested Esxi 6.x under a Centos7 kvm host to
use it as test lab for new ESXi versions, but I am doing something
wrong because I can't install it.
I have configured kvm and kvm_intel modules with the following options:
options kvm ignore_msrs=1
options kvm_intel nested=1 ept=1
and I add the following options in <cpu> xml guest file:

[v2v PATCH] docs: remove paragraph about VMware tools on Windows
Starting from libguestfs/virt-v2v 1.39.12, virt-v2v attempts to
uninstall the VMware tools from Windows guests, so there is no need to
remove them manually before the conversion.
Thanks to: Ming Xie.

NUT control of vCenter & vServer?
That's certainly on the list of options. I'm doing data gathering right now
to see what options there are. I'd prefer not to rashly decide to run off
in a direction only to discover this is already a Solved Problem.

Announce: VMware NUT client for ESXI 5.0
Dear NUT users,
I recently came across an interesting effort to integrate NUT with WMware
ESXI, made by Ren? Garcia.
This is still rough and young, but already providing a good support:
http://www.networkupstools.org/download.html#_virtualization_packages
We will work jointly in the coming months, Ren?, Aur?lien (from Eaton) and
myself, with the support from Eaton (which is a VMware partner),

trying to kickstart a vm guest from my datastore
I have a new ESXi server (5.x), and trying to load some VM guests on there.
I have the guests configured, but when I try and boot from ISO image,
the graphics are so bad it is futile. No worries I normally use
kickstart anyways.
Because the ESXi (on the same network as my physical servers) cannot
talk to the PXE server. But works fine on the network (I can ssh/scp in
and out of the ESXi

Accountsservice in CentOS 7.3
Is there any known problem with accountsservice-0.6.35-12 with NFS users?
After logging in via lightdm they are not "remembered" and there is no
entry created to /var/lib/AccountsService/users
Downgrading to accountsservice-0.6.35-9 resolved that issue

This completes the split and rewrite of the virt-v2v manual to make it
much simpler to understand and digest.

Some thoughts about EL 6
Many people seem to wait for the announcement of CentOS 6.0, so I want
to share some test results I did with SL 6.0..
The actual 6.0 kernel can NOT allocate tape buffers when the server is
heavily loaded at least on some LSILogic hardware.
There is a big problem of slab buffer increase that can cause
reboot/freeze of the server under load. Reported by many and verified by
me :-(
So perhaps

WD RE4-GP Dropped From Raid
Hi All,
I have a WD RE4-GP which dropped an Adaptec 51645 RAID controller. I ran a
smartctl short test on the drive and it failed with a read error. So I ran
the Western Digital's own diagnostic software (DLGDIAG), both the short
and extended test on the drive and it passed with no errors. So I ran the
smartctl short test again and again it failed. I then ran smartctl long
test and that

on startup, clamd does not further create clamd.sock and clamd.pid
clamd service stops without any message - even in debug mode.
It's a nightmare.

So, what is the current status of both versions? (like 60%)

mboot.c32, NUMA and tgz
Hi all,
I'm attempting to PXE boot ESXi, which uses the syslinux mboot.c32 module. The mboot.c32 included with ESXi seems to be an older version that runs into an "out of memory loading.." problem halfway through, even though the box has 8GB memory. This may be related to NUMA, since it works fine on an older box but not the newer blade. I saw that some non-contiguous memory issues

yum update was run
23.10.19 and then

to the beginning of the update 5.11.2019 kernel logging to
/var/log/messages was ok.
During the update at 5.11.2019 logging to /var/log/messages finished. I
persume, this bug began during processing updates. yum-log shows:

OT: Java down
Hallo,
yesterday from 3 to 11 pm UTC our Java application was down. As far as I
know, the server java.sun.com was not available.
Needs any java application direct access to sun?
Can I stop this hell?
Any idea?
Best regards

CentOS 6: file and directory permissions
Hi,
I fear I am too stupid:
I find nowhere the explanation of the dot in file permissions like:
-rw-r--r--. 1 root root 457 Aug 4 17:27 config
I have searched in forums, Red Hat deployment guide, storage administration guide etc
Thank you for help in advance.
Best regards
Helmut
