errors on multimedia guidance for x86_64
I have a fresh install of 5.4 x86_64 from a dvd .iso. All has worked
well for several days, including kvm and WinXP running in a vm.
Decided it was time to get the multimedia stuff up and running so I
could listen to music CDs and watch DVD movies while working. I
followed the guidance on the "Tips and Tricks" page for multimedia. Had
no problem with the "priorities" or the

conference talks
Hi,
I just wanted to report that I organised a meeting last September and
we recorded all talks and I asked computer support to convert
everything into ogg theora... Maybe you want the link?? The talks are
also very interesting if you are interested in Astrophysics and black
holes...

MP4/H.264 codec for Firefox?
Hello,
I am trying to get MP4/H.264 playback in Firefox to work on my CentOS
laptop (for vimeo).
I installed the gstreamer plugins as described here:
https://wiki.centos.org/TipsAndTricks/MultimediaOnCentOS7
(No, I did not install Flash, VLC and all the other stuff. I only want
HTML5 MP4 playback..)
I enabled the nux repos. I did install all available gstreamer plugins,
i.e. -good -bad

some thoughts about both ffmpeg and gnome
hello
i tried swfdec a year ago and didn't find it suitable. this is why i
now first tried gnash. however, it wants alot of uncommon dependencies
and dumped alot of error messages. this is why i tried taking a second
look at swfdec. im surprised to find that all of my most favourite games
work. only that i have to click on the somewhat blurry "play" image is
quite boring. however,

OT: Dropbox - Fedora Core 9 RPM will work on CentOS 5.4?
Dropbox has an RPM for Fedora Core 9 (x86). I am running CentOS 5.4 on
my Desktop, which I believe is based on Fedora Core 6. Are the
libraries Fedora Core 9 uses substantially different than those CentOS
5.4 uses? If Dropbox had an SRPM available, I would Download that and
Rebuild, but I'm sure it is Proprietary and they won't release an SRPM
to me. TIA!

How to install libquicktime on CentOS 7 in one (or two) line of command?
Hi,
For some reason, I need support of QuickTime on my CentOS 7. So I
searched the internet and found that something called "|libquicktime|"
can provide that support. So I download the rpm file from
http://rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2html/search.php?query=libquicktime%28x86-64%29.
Then I ran command "|rpm -i libquicktime-1.2.4-31.el7.x86_64.rpm|" and
got the following errors:

repos...
is rpmforge now considered 'friendly' with EPEL?
I normally only use EPEL as an addition repo, but one package I want to
install on this one system is ffmpeg, and I'm finding it on rpmforge
only... but its install wants to mix epel and rpmforge packages...
Installing:
ffmpeg x86_64 0.6.5-1.el6.rf rpmforge 2.7 M
Installing for dependencies:

[Asterisk-video] gstreamer integration
Thanks Jeremy. I am seeing questions similar to mine when I search - but I
am not finding a solution.
Was wondering if you know of something I have not found yet.

totem: something wrong with gstreamer-plugins-ugly
When running totem to play a move (e.g. mpeg-1 file), it fails with the
message: "A MPEG-1 System Stream demuxer plugin is required to play this
stream, but not installed."
After reading docs and trying various things I've reduced the source of
the problem to the package gstreamer-plugins-ugly-0.10.11-1.el5.rf.i386.rpm
# rpm --rebuilddb
# rpm -q libdvdread
libdvdread-4.1.3-1.el5

OT: Package to truncate .mp3 file
I have a 2.9 MB MP3 file. Would like to use about the first 10%, to
embed sound on a web page. The Packages I have in Applications > Sound
& Video don't seem to be able to edit the file like that. Is there a
Package I can get from a Yum Repository that will do that? Using
CentOS 5.5 (32 bit). TIA!
