lots of sockets in TIME_WAIT
Hi there,
I have some DDOS(?) attack on my router going where my apache HTTP
server is flooded with short-timed connections from some host. This
results in LOTS of sockets in TIME_WAIT/LAST_ACK/CLOSING states and
eventually I'm out of mbufs, which, consequently means I can't even
connect to the router from LAN. The kern.ipc.nmbclusters is 2560, (I
guess high enough for router with

please help diagnosing "ip_conntrack: table full, dropping packet"
Hi,
I run a small system with an older version of shorewall (1.4.2). It has been extremely solid for a long time.
But recently I have noticed the connection table filling up, which has never happened before. My guess is that the box is getting hit with floods.
The system only has 64M of ram and the conntrack_max is set to 4096 based on the ram. I have temporarily increased it to 8192 so that it

Update on protection against slowloris
Hi list!
We tested mod_antiloris 0.4 and found it quite efficient, but before
putting it in production, we would like to hear some feedback from
freebsd users. We are using Apache 2.2.x on Freebsd 6.2 and 7.2. Is
anyone using it? Do you have any other way to patch against Slowloris
other than putting a proxy in front or using the HTTP accept filter?
Thanks for your feedback,
Martin

I did it on Friday afternoon after my numerous attempts to demote DC2
failed.
This fixed one issue - made the network shares appear again across all
clients.
A new one has been discovered though on one of our CentOS 5.11 boxes.

Problem with sending mail from mail server behind firewall.
I am having a problem with connections from a server behind a shorewall
firewall. Both machines are running redhat 8.0 with a custom 2.4.20
kernel. The problem lies with a mail server I am configuring which has
been able to send mail to all hosts, except this one. The connection
starts with the SYN_SENT, and then just hangs there. (telnet to remote
server on port 25 just hangs trying to

It's the other way round.
On dc1 port 53 is mapped to /usr/sbin/named -u bind.
On dc2 it's /usr/sbin/samba.
I wasn't sure what to do when I deployed dc2.
I remember installing bind9 on dc2 but then purging it.
BTW - does it matter for

winbind fails
We have a windows 2003 dc here at the university and I have successfully
setup samba-3.0.2-6.3E on a RHEL WS3 machine. The problem is that after
several hours, or several days winbind stops running and connections
fail. I have seen instances of this on other sites, but no firm
answers. I can provide files and logs if helpful

Shorewall and CUPS printing interference
I''m having a problem with the Shorewall firewall and CUPS printing

You didn't mention the client command you're running.
As for the log-data output by a --daemon, did you look in the appropriate syslog
file? or check the rsyncd.conf file to see if it is logging to a file? You can
also use the "max verbosity" setting

force Samba bind to internal IP only
Hello everybody,
We need to configure Samba (recent cvs) on our Linux (SuSE 7.2) box
(iptables/FreeSwan) acting as firewall, router and VPN gateway. Whenever
nmbd or smbclient try to connect to our Samba PDC (WINS ok, IP
192.168.0.5) packets are sent with a source address of the external
interface x.y.46.70 and will of course be blocked by iptables and never
be routable to subnet 192.168.0.0 .

DNAT or NAT - QUESTION
Hi, I have a simple question. I have my firewall with 2 external Ip and 1
lan.
For example
ISP1
FW LAN----Mail Server
ISP2
Ok, when i DANT the smpt port to my mail server, I can see that the
conection in my mail server comes from the external IP of my ISP.
I need to change this so the conection to my mail server cames from the LAN
IP from my firewall
Is this possible?
