pcscd
Anyone working with/using it? One thing that's driving me nuts is that it
keeps spitting garbage into the logs (card absent or mute!!!). I just
tried editing /etc/init.d/pcscd - there's *no* way to pass parms from the
config file - and set the logging level to --error, and it's still doing
it.
Clues for the poor, to shut it up?

Smart cards, mostly solved
So, it *seems* to be working, pretty much. I needed to install
opensc, openct pcsc-lite, pcsc-lite-openct, and ctapi-common will be
installed as a dependency.
I *removed* coolkey and esc, which depended on it. 100% of the time, they
misidentifed the new/current US federal ID PIV-II cards as coolkey cards,
and popped up this "phone home" window, then a "manage smartcards"

opensc smartcard support does not work
Hi,
sorry, I'm not on the list, so please answer directly.
I use opensc-0.7.0 and pcsc-lite-1.1.1 under FreeBSD 4.6
with Gemplus 410 and 430 smartcard readers and Schlumberger
cryptoflex smartcards.
I used openssh-3.2.2p1 but the relevant file scard-opensc.c
is unchanged in 3.4.
RSA authentication to a remote host running opensshd
did not work with the smartcard.

bug in logging
Hello...
After a break, I am back to my integrating puppet project. While
testing I ran into a bug in puppetmaster.log. (maybe. it is possible I
did this myself with a borked config )
I seems that puppetmaster is re-logging past data. I have noop = true
and set runinterval = 60 to show the bug. I manually added the "manual
break" lines in between runs.

mysterious weekly shutdown
I have a Centos 5.4 machine that has, for the past two weeks, apparently
been shut off over the weekend. It's just sitting there turned off on
Monday morning and when someone hits the power switch it comes right
back on and everything works again.
This happened last weekend, and again over this past weekend.
Here is /var/log/messages from shortly before it apparently shut down
this weekend.

firefox unable to load pkcs11 module
Hi Tony,
Have you solved this problem yet?I took another approach and used CACkey which supportsUS Government PIV cards including the CAC.? In my case I set it up on Linux Mint but there is an rpm version of CACKey for 32 or 64 bit Centos. Here is the process I went through.
- setup CAC card by following instructions on:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/CommonAccessCard
sudo apt-get install

CentOS 6, firefox, PIV cards
Hi, folks,
Up until a few weeks ago, it worked as it has been for years: firefox,
security device is libcoolkey, and pcscd.
Today, I go to use it (I have done updates sine I last used it), and
try preferences->advanced->certificates, and it hangs. My most recent
try was for over 20 min. If you move something over the window, then
move it away, it's a blank window. Pull out the

ssh-add -s /usr/lib/opensc-pkcs11.so does not work
Dear friends,
First, thanks for helping me on ssh default option for smartcards. I
recompiled SSH from CVS and it seems to work.
I still have problems with:
ssh-add -s /usr/lib/opensc-pkcs11.so
Enter passphrase for PKCS#11: (I enter PIN code)

card reader issue
I have never done anything with a card reader before so I have no idea what I'm
doing here.
I have a laptop with a card reader in it and when I put the card in I see this
in /var/log/messages:
Feb 5 13:28:58 localhost pcscd: winscard.c:304:SCardConnect() Reader E-Gate 0 0

This comes up many times in the log. I suspect that this means that I'm
missing some package that I

get_pin for scard-opensc.c
I'm attaching a patch to allow ssh client to get a pin from the command line
when using a smartcard. Most of it is from a patch by Danny De Cock
<godot () ulyssis ! org>, but I've used the ssh read_passphrase function
instead. Any errors are mine, I'm sure.
This enables ssh -I 0 to use a pin-protected smartcard via opensc.
Thanks,
Kevin Stefanik
