FW: Logwatch for XXXXXXX.kd4efm.org (Linux)
Found an error or two from my logwatch report from yesterday, thought I would share this in hopes this is just first time run of the problem I noticed in the Kernel report section... Also not sure why there's an issue with automount either.... but I guess I could ask on that issue as well. I am not worried about the NAMED error, this is something that happens due to one of the services that

Changing Root E-Mail address
Hi All, I installed a new CentOS 5.5 box and I am getting a daily e-mail (I am not sure how this was triggered) with XNTPD logs, HTTP Error and Disk Space). It is being sent to root at www.6colors.co which bounces, but I have a catch all so it does get to me. How do I change where this e-mail is sent? I have tried in /etc/postfix/main.cd, master.cf, bounce.cf.default, etc and I don't see

NTP problems
My server is supposed to be using ntp, with nothing changed from the defaults set up by CentOS5. However, daily I see log entries like Total synchronizations 2 (hosts: 2) **Unmatched Entries** sendto(193.6.222.20) (fd=21): Invalid argument: 1 time(s) sendto(141.89.226.2) (fd=21): Invalid argument: 1 time(s) Does this mean that ntp is failing? I assume so, and if so, how do I change

Accepting Time Server
If samba and xntpd are running, you're done! Samba is a time server. Setting the smb.conf parameter "time server = yes" will cause Samba to advertise itself as a time server in the browse list through nmbd. Regardless of this setting, clients can still set their time with the "net time" command. -Mike MacIsaac, IBM mikemac at us.ibm.com (845) 433-7061

Asterisk Viruses?
The Skype network is circulating a virus that has appeared there before: http://www.informationweek.com/news/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=198500135 . The virus sends a URL to other Skype users in the infected user's contacts, which the target Skype displays as clickable. Clicking downloads the virus. Asterisk supports features like these, in combination with certain clients (which aren't

Slow Copy WinXX - Linux/Samba :-(
I never thought it would happen to me, but it did... I have read threads about slow copies from WinXX to Linux/Samba on the list in the past, but I don't recall a concise answer regarding what the cause was. THE PROBLEM: Trying to copy an 8 meg file from Win95 to my Linux/Samba box (named "Nemesis" - for good reason), the transfer speed slows to a crawl. The Win95 copy dialog box

NTP
Hi folks, Have there been any changes to the way ntpd behaves in the past few updates? Reason I ask, whenever I run the ntpq or ntpdc, I immediately get a response of Name or service not known. I know things used to work sometime back, and never saw this kind of stuff. Nothing has changed in the /etc/ntp.conf file, nor has anything changed in the /etc/ntp/ntpservers files. T

ntp will not drift to correct time
Hi On 5.3 i have a situation where some boxes have been 3 or 4 seconds out and restarting ntpd has fixed the issue. What i dont understand is why the clocks did not drift to the correct time when the config seems correct in that restarting ntp did correct the time. Is there something 'special' i need to do in order for the drift to work? $ cat /etc/ntp.conf restrict default

Timeserver Timezone Mismatch BUG?
I am having a terrible time getting the hardware clock, system clock and the time served to my winXX boxes to jive on my Mandrake 7.2/Samba 2.07 machine. I have my clock file, timezone and localtime links set to America/Chicago. No matter what I do, if I use UTC for my hwclock, my system clock on the Linux box is fine, but samba passes system time +6 hours to the windows clients. (Yes I know CST =

ntp revisited (so what to do ?)
OK, So what you people say is : 1. Run "ntpdate" during startup only once 2. After that, keep time with ntpd Right ? Regards, spyros ---- "I merely function as a channel that filters music through the chaos of noise" - Vangelis
