how to properly change the timezone
Hi, I have a Centos 5.5 server with no GUI installed. I have several times changed the timezone by copying the correct file to /etc/localtime, however something keeps changing it back. I'm not sure if this is a yum update or what. Without installing the graphical tools, how can I update the timezone in such a way that the /etc/localtime file won't keep getting clobbered. Thank

Swap space for kvm virtual host
I have a kvm virtual host running on what will become CentOS 6 with 12GB of memory and a Quad Xeon X5560 2.8Ghz . The store for virtual machines will be a software raid 6 array of 6 disks with an LVM layered on top. I'm not initially planning any major overcommitment of resources, though there could be a need for some overcommitment with a light workload on the guests. In recent years

Is there any reason why sudo would would require sys_ptrace access for this?? I only get this violation intermittenly, and not with every call to sudo.? Here's the violation: Summary: SELinux is preventing sudo (httpd_t) "sys_ptrace" to <Unknown>

question about software Raid 1
Does software raid 1 compare checksums or otherwise verify that the same bits are coming from both disks during reads? What I'm interested in, is whether bit errors that were somehow undetected by the hardware would be detected by the raid 1 software. Thanks, Nataraj

Centos on Dell XPS15
I have a Dell XPS 13 9360, though I am running ubuntu 18.04 on it.? I remember there being a patch to the mainline kernel which addressed many of the wireless problems. I'm not sure if those changes ever made it into the CentOS kernels. Some of the Dell XPS 13's had removable ethernet interfaces while most of the more recent ones had the killer interfaces on the motherboard.? I'm not

Building REDHAT Desktop Virtualization Solution With Centos
Redhat offers a desktop virtualization solution using "kvm, qemu, libvirt and spice" which is directed at centralized server hosting virtual desktops and thin clients connecting to it. All the relevant software are open source. So it should be possible to achieve the same feat with CentOS. Anyone know any complete tutorial regarding this? I've found separate tutorials regarding

Linux on touch screen device
I have poked around in google and have seen a number of youtube videos, but my question is whether anyone really has linux running on any kind of tablet or tablet PC device in such a way that the touch screen can be used productively and it won't take a month to get it running? Initially the two applications that are of most interest to me would be a good web browser (maybe chromium) and

usb problem on Dell Latitude 3570
Hello All, after update to Centos7.5 all our Latitudes 3570 - some 150- suffer usb problems. Plug and play doesn't work any more, people need to insert usb devices - mouse, keyboard, eidreader - first and then boot in order to use them. dmesg | tail -n15 gives these EM: [ 25.164396] usb 1-8: device descriptor read/64, error -110 [ 25.418387] usb 1-8: new full-speed USB device number 6

Will the puppetmaster compile a catalog if there are not changes?
I have been asked a question for which I cannot seem to find an answer. When a client contacts my puppetmaster, will the puppet master compile a catalog if there have been not changes to that clients configuration? Or, will the puppetmaster just say ''there are no changes to your catalog so you need not do anything''? Thanks in advance rjl -- You received this message
