Xen on Centos 5.5 vs 5.3 and stability issues
I've recently upgraded a Centos 5.3 machine to Centos 5.5. The
hardware isn't HVM capabile so I'm only running para-virt guests.
Using a vanilla i386 kernel boots without, but the newer kernel-xen
locks up the Dom0 after a couple of minute. I'm only booting into
single user mode for these tests so no VMs are active.

Looking for motherboard/chipset experience, again
What about the Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe motherboard? It has 7 SATA ports,
supports ECC memory, socket AM2, generally looks very attractive for
my home storage server. Except that it, and the nvidia nForce 570-SLI
it''s built on, don''t seem to be on the HCL. I''m hoping that''s just
"yet", not reported yet. Anybody run Solaris on it? Or at least on

Freeze when swithing vt
Hello. I am running 0.3.6 compiz under Fedora Core 6 and nvidia 1.0-9631
binary driver. I have noticed that switching to console with ctrl-alt-f1
and then back to x with ctrl-alt-f7 locks up the system with a black
screen more or less (sometimes the lockup is complete, sometimes the
cursor moves and it is possible to switch back to console), A user on

e1000 gig nic howto?
We have a 10Gbps connection to our server so I need to be able to create VMs using the faster e1000 nics instead of the default Realtek 100Mbps ones but I''m not sure how to go about it.
Is there a walkthrough or "howto" or can someone point me at some simple instructions?
I''m using xen-3.0.3-105.el5_5.5 and Centos 5.5 kernel 2.6.18-194.32.1.el5.centos.plusxen

Virtualization supporting 1000Mbps nics?
I've got xen-3.0.3-105.el5_5.5 running on Centos 5.5 and all is running smooth but I notice that any VMs running under it only have access to Realtek RTL8139C at 100 Mbps nics.
We have 4 x 1G nics configured in a port channel so I'd really like to be able to give my VMs 1000Mbps nics.
Does anyone know if this is possible and how to do it?
If not, does KVM support faster nics because at

[HOW-TO]Nvidia latest graphic drivers for ubuntu users
Ubuntu distro has in its repositories the 180.11 driver version for nvidia based cards, which are not the ones you get by default with the install.
Its highly recommended to upgrade to 180.11 using the following pain-free method :
Code:
sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx-180
Since feb 25th nvidia has released an updated version 180.35 [LINK]

system "stuck" with 2.6.18-128 kernel. how to move to 2.6.18-194.17?
Hi. I just noticed I had a CentOS 5.3 system that I updated to CentOS
5.5 a few days ago,
and I just ran "yum -y update" again to get the latest kernel, and I
just noticed it still has the old 2.6.18-128 kernel instead of the new
2.6.18-194.17. What gives?
/etc/grub.conf points at 2.6.18-194.17, but when I reboot, 2.6.18-128 comes up.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,

guest vms crash host systems
I built guest vm's one for Windows 7 and one for Windows XP using the
virtual machine manager on a just updated to centos 5.7, and they are both
crashing the host machine. They run only for a few minutes, but suddenly
freeze, crashing the host. There is no networking. No X. No way to drop out
of X. The only way out is a hard reboot. I don't see anything in the logs --

I have been able to boot Jeremy Fitzhardinge''s pv_ops kernel under

I have asked for help in the freenode ##xen channel but they

metafont on CentOS 5?
Can someone hit me with the appropriate clue-by-4?
is there an available package for CentOS5 which provides the metafont command, or a replacement?
What is the name and which repo? please.
I have a font bundle I need to use (which is not provided in an RPM that I can find), but metafont
does not seem to be available.
tetex provides the /usr/share/texmf/metafont directory structure, but not a

MCP51 what is the network module name
I have a new biostar motherboard with nvidia chipset.
The lspci says MCP51 ethernet. The module was not detected although
for FC4 installs it says it works.
What is the network module name for the MCP51 driver so that I can
try loading it manually.

build and install lustre from source code -- warning on livcfs.ko for no modversions
I built and installed Lustre from source. When I installed built luster-modules- RPM, I got libcfs.ko from the kernel-2.6.18-prep has no modversions (the message is posted below), so it cannot be reused for kernel. Is there any procedure I need to do during the build? There is include/config/modversion.h under patched kernel, but the file does not have any contens and its size is 0.

my problem is probably common (I actually asked for help for a similar

XML segfault on some architectures
Hi,
I found an architecture-specific segfault problem with the XML package. I originally found the problem using the parseKGML2Graph function in the Bioconductor KEGGgraph package, but as far as I can tell the underlying issue seems to be with the xmlTreeParse which is called by parseKGML2Graph.
I'm trying this piece of code, from the xmlTreeParse help page:
