Virtualization platform choice
Some may be bored with the subject - sorry... Still not decided about virtualization platform for my "webhotel v2" (ns, mail, web servers, etc.). KVM would be a natural way to go, I suppose, only it is too bad CentOS 6 will not be out in time for me - I guess KVM would be more mature in CentOS 6. Any experience with the free "VMware vSphere Hypervisor"?. (It was formerly

Htaccess management with GUI
My webhotel client wants to be able to manage password protection of their website with GUI. They need to create and destroy directories, set .htaccess authentication, and create usernames and passwords. There seem to be a number of tools that do this, more or less: http://www.debianhelp.co.uk/htaccessweb.htm However, I have not found any good comparisons or reviews. Has anyone tested this

Protectbase Plugin not working?
Alle, I have installed and enabled (I think) the yum protectbase plugin: [cwfox at lurker ~]$ rpm -qa | grep -i protectbase yum-plugin-protectbase-1.1-1.c4 [cwfox at lurker ~]$ cat /etc/yum/pluginconf.d/protectbase.conf [main] enabled = 1 [cwfox at lurker ~]$ grep plugin /etc/yum.conf plugins=1 [cwfox at lurker ~]$ cat /etc/yum.repos.d/CentOS-Base.repo <SNIP> [base]

Per User Quotas with LDAP on Dovecot 1.x
Alle, We're running Dovecot V1.0.7 on RHEL5.5, using maildir. We would like to user per user quotas with an OpenLDAP (V2.3.43) backend. We have setup a default quota in /etc/dovecot.conf: quota = maildir:storage=10240:ignore=Trash And have the following userdb configs in /etc/doveconf.conf: userdb ldap { args = /etc/dovecot-ldap.conf } and the following user_attrs defined in

Installing 4.4 - problem on 386
I tried installing with several options (noacpi noapm; noprobe; noprobe skipddc noacpi noapm nodma). Always I get the same error. BUT this is not in fac a CentOS problem at all, because I get the same error always when I boot from hd (Fedora Core), IF there is a CD in the CD-ROM drive. (I tried with CentOS 1/4, CentOS 2/4 and a HP printer software CD.) It must be something with the CD drive!

Corrupted RPM DB can't be rebuilt.
Alle, I have a major problem. I'm running CentOS 5.5 on some rather old hardware (Dual Celeron 500MHz with 768MB of memory). Sometime in the last week, the DB became corrupted (I noticed when yum update would hang). I've tried running rpm --rebuild with both the 2.6.18-194.17.4 and 2.6.18-194.26.1 kernels and get a segmentation fault each time. Consequently, I'm pretty much stuck

Not firewall, but what?
I have a strange problem, where some clients see the website on my server and some do not. It is not about the iptables, and seems to be not about tcp wrapper. Still it is something within the box. More details: - the problem is only with some clients, with no geographical connection between them; other clients see the website just fine - the problem-clients get timeout with their browser -

Changing size of a xen guest filesystem
It should be easy, but I have not yet found a solution. Only some methods involving use of dd, but that sounds a little scary to me on a production server. I wish there would be a command "virt-resize", but no... Maybe "virt-clone", with the option --file=DISKFILE, could be bended to do this? - Jussi Hirvi -- Jussi Hirvi * Green Spot Topeliuksenkatu 15 C * 00250 Helsinki

Xen stack scheme
I need to restructure my server farm from tower PC:s to a minimal amount of 1U rack servers. I am going to rely on xen virtualization, as KVM seems not to be very mature yet. My current problem is the mail server, which uses a lot of CPU and I/O. A dedicated machine would be the best option. But would there be any sense in this: - run the mail server in xen dom0 (to get full native

Flow-Tools RPM for CentOS 5.3
Alle, Does anyone know if there is/where to get an rpm of flow-tools V0.66 or better for CentOS/RHEL 5.3? We've been trying to build from the SRPM @ http://cng.ateneo.net/cng/wyu/software/srpm/flow-tools-0.68-2.src.rpm with no luck. Best Regards, Camron -- Camron W. Mailman - searchable archive
Mailman works well for our mailing lists, but the archive is unacceptable - the worst thing is lack of search function. I got one tip for this: 1) emails converted to html format with mhonarc 2) search can be done with htdig Opinions? Maybe there are better software solutions for this - I hope. - Jussi -- Jussi Hirvi * Green Spot Topeliuksenkatu 15 C * 00250 Helsinki * Finland Tel. +358 9

Disk quotas for Sendmail
Hi, CentOS 5.x, Sendmail 8.13.8. I would like to start using disk quotas on my Sendmail server, and optimally they should be configurable by user or group. How can this be done? (I tried to google, but no success.) - Jussi -- Jussi Hirvi * Green Spot Topeliuksenkatu 15 C * 00250 Helsinki * Finland Tel. & fax +358 9 493 981 * Mobile +358 40 771 2098 (only sms) jussi.hirvi at greenspot.fi *

Sendmail with TLS, permission problem
Hello, list, I have a problem with Sendmail configuration. I'm building (on CentOS 5) a "dual-MTA" setup with amavisd-new (as specified in amavisd-new documentation, file README.sendmail-dual). So far so good. But when I tried to add server SMTP-AUTH and TLS, I get a strange, permission-related error, and STARTTLS will not start. In my .mc conf, the Sendmail user is now the usual

VMware vSphere Hypervisor (free ESXi) and mdraid

KVM resources?
Later this week I will have to install a serious KVM setup, and I am looking for background material. I found a nice how-to: http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/KVM ...but it is probably partly outdated by now. Then there is a fine virtualization manual: http://www.centos.org/docs/5/html/5.2/Virtualization/ ...but it seems to be only for xen. I plan to use either CentOS 5.6 or Scientific Linux

Openwebmail emergency (Perl)
After system update yesterday, Openwebmail now gives an error: > Undefined subroutine &Compress::Zlib::memGzip called at /var/www/cgi-bin/openwebmail/shares/ow-shared.pl line 1175. I tried to do perl -MCPAN -e shell install Compress::Zlib But it says Compress::Zlib is up-to-date. What do to?? File sharing solution
I would like to offer my isp clients a solution for sharing (big) files, basically on one-to-one basis. This is how I imagine it: - an anonymous or registered user can upload a file - on response (s)he will get a file-specific (or batch-specific) username/password - (s)he can send a link and un/pw by email - the receiver can download the file - the file will be automatically deleted from the

Per-user limits for port access
Centos 5.x again... Is there a way to limit port access on a per-user basis? My practical goal is to limit, who is allowed to use SMTP AUTH in Sendmail. Any possible solutions appreciated... Obviously, limiting by ip will not work, since the very purpose of SMTP AUTH is to enable mail relaying for trusted users from *anywhere*. - Jussi -- Jussi Hirvi * Green Spot Topeliuksenkatu 15 C * 00250

Xen guest not starting automatically
I have a xen system with four guest OS's, (see list below). When I reboot the host, other guests autostart normally, but mail2 does not. I have found no explanation for this. The host and all guests are CentOS 5.5. [OT] List of all email users
This is not CentOS-specific, hence OT. I need a list of all email users on my system (there are hundreds of them). The list could be extracted from /etc/aliases and the virtusertable. Does anyone know of a script that would do this automatically? It would have to - exclude commented-out lines (of course) - exclude duplicates - produce a list of usernames (or maybe unresolved email addresses for
