(In)(x)sane privilege/access issue
I just picked up a new HP OfficeJet J3680 all-in-one (because, as
previously posted, my 4315 broke), and I was able to install the
printer using the latest hplip's hp-setup command, BUT:
My sane:

Issue with HP Officejet 6500 on CentOS 5.5
I just picked one of these up to replace my 4315, which broke (I think
the feeder roller gear broke from an overstuffed feeder), but it's
giving me problems.
I had no trouble configuring it to print, but it doesn't appear in
lsusb and xsane can't find it, so I can't scan with it, which is the
main reason I bought it in the first place.
I've tried restarting the autofs service

Video on (video-capable digital) still camera not accessible
I'm looking for any intelligent commentary on this - it may be a
little off topic, but I'm wondering if anyone knows about this. This
isn't short, so bear with me.
Yesterday, I tried to download a video off of one of my digital still
cameras that also takes videos (Canon Powershot SX10 iS) on my CentOS
x86_64 5.3 system. When I plugged the camera into a USB port and
turned it on, it

scanner only works in su mode
Apparently I hadn't done any scanning since my move to centos.
hp-scan works for root, but not for me as me.
When I try to use xsane, it tells me no device found.
When I try to use hp-scan as myself it tells me:
error: Unable to locate device hpaio:/usb/Photosmart_C3100_series?serial=CN6ARC321S04KV using SANE backend hpaio:. Please check HPLIP installation.

Problems getting scanner to work from xsane (from Gnome Menu or GIMP)
We have a networked HP OfficeJet All-In-One. I have the scanner working
with the CentOS 5.3, except xsane is ignoring SANE_DEFAULT_DEVICE.
scanimage does however take this environment variable just fine:
server1.wendellfreelibrary.org% scanimage -L
No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,
check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the

Centos 5.5 and Canon PIXMA 7600 multifunction printer/scanner/fax
Hello listmates,
xsane on Ubuntu 10 finds that Canon PIXMA via the web and seems to be able
to make use of it without a glitch. However, Centos machines sitting on the
same net fail to find it. Does anybody know why?
Thanks.
Boris.

Network Scanner and CentOS 5.5
I have an HP Photosmart 3210 All-in-One color printer. Printing works
great, but I cannot get xsane to locate it on the local subnet.
I've been to the sane site and looked at the backends. The HP 3210 is
supported by hpio and there is a note that hpio is no longer needed
because the functionality has been rolled int hplip. yum shows hplip is
installed:

Wine and USB scanner access ?
Hi,
I'm using latest Wine (20050310) with Debian sid (kernel 2.6.11).
I own an USB 1.1 scanner : Agfa SnapScan 1212U.
I successfully installed ScanWise software provided by the vendor (2.0.0.9 version) but when I
launch it, it behaves as if the scanner's light wasn't on, or it was unplugged : it asks for me to
connect the scanner.
Below is the debugging info. I also tried to

Question: USB Scanner Epson Perfection 1260 not working
Hi,
just got an Epson Perfection 1260 scanner which is
supported according to sane, but decides not to scan,
even though the lamp is switched on and the stepper
motor makes one step, if scanimage is started.
sane-find-scanner says:
found USB scanner (vendor=0x04b8, product=0x011d) at /dev/uscanner0
scanimage -L says:
device `plustek:/dev/uscanner0' is a Epson Perfection 1260/Photo USB

CentOS: scanning
Hi!
I've been using v.-4.4 since last Oct, and I'm quite satisfied, *except*
for *one* thing: I can't scan! Both kooka and xsane report "no devices
available." That doesn't affect printing, but every time I have to scan
something, I've to go back to Mandriva or Ubuntu.
I've had this HP psc-2410 for a couple of years. I scanned successfully
