How does the libvirt deal with the vnet mac address
How does the libvirt deal with the vnet mac address?
Greetings,
if I establish a network for the VM (hypervisor is KVM) using bridge in the virt-manager , a vnet0 device is created . There are some relationships about mac address between the vnet0 device in the hypervisor and the ethX device in the VM, for example :
the mac address of vnet0 is FE:54:00:84:E3:62
the mac address of ethX in the VM

Network isolation - PCI passthrough question
Hello,
I thinking about using PCI passthrough to dedicated a domU as firewall.
I understand PCI passthrough concept. When done, my domU will see
network card and the dom0 won''t any more. So I''ll be able to filter all
trafic from outside, since it will go through network domU.
Then, how will I be able to connect other domU (and maybe dom0) to the
network domU ?
In a normal way,

Greetings!
I encounter a problem about the network when using virt-manager to create and run a VM.
when I want to establish a network bridge for the guest OS, I generally use two kinds of ways described as fellow :
First method : create a bridge with the help of linux commad: brctl, or

"Unable to open file..."
I already have Wine working under Linux, primarily to run Quicken. I'm
trying to run TaxAct 2000, without success. Starting TaxAct, I get
the TaxAct splash screen followed by an error box stating
"Unable to open 2000 Tax Return File.ta0". The filename contains
whitespace as shown.
The debug message log shows an attempt to open the file:

Virtual Interface
Hi Guys,
I want to create multiple virtual interfaces on a system running linux 2.6.
The main requirment being, to assign unique MAC address fo each of the
virtual interfaces.
I need to know, if this is possible and will really appriciate if someone
can provide me pointer in this direction.
Thanks a lot.

Tinc on Linux and tap device problem
Hello,
I successfully set up a tunnel with tinc using the tun interface.
however I need a tap device, because I need to run the OLSR routing
protocol on the tunnel and if I use the tun mode OLSR will just skip
the interface. (It is a well known thing, I had this issue before also
when using OpenVPN in the past).
The problem is that I cannot make tinc use a tap device.
I created the tap0

controlling VM access to different tap devices
Sorry if this off-topic but I have a qemu related question I was going
to send to the qemu users mailing list but that list appears to have
vanished. I thought this community might have some insight.
I am interested in controlling VM access to different tap devices so I
want to have different qemu processes bound to different tun devices.
I've created new tun devices (eg. /dev/net/tun_low)

network comanline to xml
hello,
i start a kvm guest with the following comand line:
kvm -hda myimage.img -m 1024 -smp 2 \
-net nic -net tap,ifname=tap0,script=no
now a plan to start this via libvirt.
I have try to set nat via the libvirt-manager but this doesn't connect.
So i try to use bridge network via the GUI and get a "non supported"
error when i use tap0 as "bridge device".
How can

Scripting Oddity
I've been playing around with qemu and wanted to make the guest OS
instance visible on my network. This meant getting bridging and tun/tap
working. After getting things working by pasting command from the
CentOS wiki article plus adding a few enhancements, I decided to capture
the process in a shell script that would be suitable for a user in the
sudoers file to fire off. Not sure why

Issues after migrating from Xen to KVM
Dear list,
I have moved my HVMs from xen to kvm and it worked well except some
problems using virsh.
First, one OpenSolaris HVM does boot with warnings:
WARNING: /pci at 0,0/pci1af4,1100 at 1,2 (uhci1): No SOF interrupts have been
received, this USB UHCI host controller is unusable*
*The corresponding process:

[Bridge] Bridging between user processes
Hi,
What is the easiest way to bridge between two
user-space processes that talk directly to Ethernet
interfaces?
I have two applications that write/read Ethernet
frames to/from Linux Ethernet ports (e.g. eth0). The
applications can successfully talk to each other when
they run on two machines connected over Ethernet. I
would like to be able to test them on a single machine
without employing

Howto set the option script=no for a tap device in the xml file
Hello,
I am trying to run a virtual machine with qemu-kvm and libvirt as a
user. In order to start the virtual machine I setup a tap device
manually, add it to the bridge and activate it via ifconfig. But I
cannot tell libvirt to not try to add the definded tap device to the
bridge by itself. It always fails telling me it cannot add tap0 to br0.
Thats the xml snippet for defining the network:

[Bridge] Setting the interfaces in promiscuous mode
Hello,
I have been using the bridging facilities provided by Linux (vanilla
2.6.7 SMP with UML skas host patch applied) to bridge a regular
physical ethernet network (on interface eth0) with a virtual network
(on interface tap0, cf uml_switch,
http://user-mode-linux.sourceforge.net/networking.html). A couple of
virtual machines (run using user-mode linux, a tool that enables you

Xen Windows Clients - BSOD with Application Firewall Installs
I have set up both Windows XP and Windows 2000 Server clients on Xen under Centos 5.1 and am unable to install an application
firewall. I have tried the latest:
1) Agnitum Outpost Commercial Version
2) Comodo Firewall (ver 2 on Windows 2000)
3) Sunbelt Commercial Version
With all of these when the firewall starts up it results in a BSOD. With Windows XP and Agnitum I can go back to a previous

iptables and kvm
I am experimenting with a kvm virtual machine. At the moment I
trying to configure iptables for the the host instance. In Xen
terms I would call this Dom0 but I do not know the appropriate KVM
term, if any.
The setup I have is a single NIC (eth0) host bridged (bridge0). I
want iptables to allow all host generated traffic (! bridge0 I
think) and to check all other traffic for brute force

where is tunctl
I am following directions in
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/KVM#head-c02a0b33e7949b0bc3b151ac6e0bdfb91b6bbd1c
it says do yum install bridge-utils - works fine,
they yum install tunctl does not find anything.
yum provides "*/tunctl" does not find anything
I am using 5.4 x86_64.
Is this howto out of date?
How do I get tunctl?
Thanks,
