Network issue - Windows works but CentOS does not
I am having an extremely strange issue with a BL460c1 (G1) blade on a
c7000 enclosure. I could not for the life of me get the machine to ping
the gateway or any other blade on the same enclosure (yes, the subnet
mask was correct & quadruple-checked); although pinging to the local IP
works. I was almost convinced that it was a network or hardware issue;
until I asked someone to try

Could not setup Speed and Duplex on CentOS 5.5
Greetings,
I recently installed CentOS 5 on Dell PE 1750 server. I have noticed that
the speed and duplex settings are 100 Half Duplex. I tried to change the
duplex settings to full, but no success. I got the error message "Cannot get
current device settings: Operation not supported". Does anyone else
experience this issue?. Below is the error message and some more details
about my box.

gigE -> 100Mb problems
I've got a pair of identical CentOS 6.7 servers, with SuperMicro X8DTE-F
motherboards, these have 2 each Intel 82574L ethernet ports. The eth0
ports are plugged in with 10' runs of brand new cat 5e cable to a Cisco
Nexxus 9000 switch (provided by the data center).
These servers keep coming up at 100baseT rather than gigE. I've swapped
ports and cables with a different server,

Xend hangs on starting time!
I come across some problem when using xen-4.1.1-rc1-pre from xen-4.1-testing

git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/jeremy/xen.git.
when I use ''xend restart'' , it hangs when kernel dmesg printing ''Bridge
firewalling registered'' and the console show below messages:

Experiencing continual eth0 link up/down on a 10G Chelsio NIC (cxgb3 driver)
File Server OS: CentOS 5.3 (x86_64)
Kernel: CentOS Plus kernel (need XFS fs drivers)
The file server has a Chelsio T310 10GBASE-CX4 RNIC (rev 3) PCI
Express x8 MSI-X (eth0), driver and firmware is stock from the CentOS
Plus kernel.
Using ethtool I have verified driver association with the 3 NICs on
the system (eth1 and eth2 are not connected to any switch)
Driver for eth0

QoS General Question
How much of an impact can/does local network traffic have on call quality?
Would opening large files on local servers affect call quality? We are
running QoS on the router but that will only prioritize traffic in/out of
the network.

Lockup using stock r8169 on 4.8 in gigabit mode during heavy transfer on lan
I have no output in the logs, but /etc/init.d/network restart fixes the issue.
I am rsync/scp (10GB) data from one 100MB Full duplex host to an ASUS M3A78-EM
(RTL8111B/C). It locks up around the 1.5GB Tx mark.
If I ethtool -s eth0 autoneg off speed 100 duplex full it does not happen again.
Ideas?

C5 64-bit on Dell not seeing 1 GB link
I've got a Dell Precision Workstation 490 with 64-bit Centos 5, fully
updated, with an on-board Broadcom 57xx gigabit Ethernet controller,
updated BIOS, 1 GB switch, and /var/log/messages and dmesg both claim the
link is 100 Mb, not 1 GB.
I tried setting eth0 to mtu 9000 but got an error in going so.
What do I need to do to have the card see 1 gb?
Thanks.

nfsmount default timeo=7 causes timeouts on 100 Mbps
I can't explain why 700 msecs aren't enough to avoid timeouts in 100
Mbps networks, but my tests verify it, so I'm writing to the list to
request that you increase the default timeo to at least 30, or to 600
which is the default for `mount -t nfs`.
How to reproduce:
1) Cabling:
server <=> 100 Mbps switch <=> client
Alternatively, one can use a 1000 Mbps switch and

Disable autoneg on r8169?
Two problems I hope to solve:
1. The switch being used has autoneg off and has port set to 100 full duplex.
2. Many times NIC fails to come up properly during PXE boot:
r8169: eth0: link down
ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth0: link is not ready
I can't use ethtool to disable autoneg because the nic driver is built
into a bzImage. The root fs is currently being mounted via nfs during
pxeboot at

network collapse
Hi folks
on debian stable I've a default samba file sharing config. Everything
works perfectly (almost...) - samba version 3.6.6

musics) often (one time every 4/5 minutes) networks suddenly collapse (for
less one second) and immediately goes up. So I've an interrupt of

RTL8111/8168B always 100mbps
Dear All,
I have an onboard Realtek RTL8111/8168B NIC. from lspci -vv :
02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd.
RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller (rev 02)
It is detected, but why the speed is always 100Mbps, already change
cable but still no luck. I use ethtool and from the output it seems
that system know that this NIC support gigabit speed :

disable auto-negotiation gigabit ethernet
I can not disable the auto-negotiation (eth1) on my centos 6.2 via
ethtool or /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth1
the eth1 is a private network on a cheap gigabit-switch (under controll
from a serverhoster). sometime the ethernet-card lost the "speed" and
"duplex" information and change it to "unknown". i can only fix this
with a network-restart (or

An Interesting Issue in Samba Performance
Okay Ive had a day of it today , and I thought I would share this little
support event experienced today.
A Client site of mine runs Samba 2.2.8a connecting to a series of
Windows XP boxes via a Netgear Switch/Hub.
Earlier in the week they reported that certain applications, most
notorously Symantec ACT were performing at super slow speeds.
A non site investigation showed that any file

[PATCH net-next] virtio_net: add ethtool support for set and get of settings
From: Nikolay Aleksandrov <nikolay at cumulusnetworks.com>
This patch allows the user to set and retrieve speed and duplex of the
virtio_net device via ethtool. Having this functionality is very helpful
for simulating different environments and also enables the virtio_net
device to participate in operations where proper speed and duplex are
required (e.g. currently bonding lacp mode

ethtool to view and set network parameters
in dom0, how does one get and set the link information for a NIC? In a
non-xen kernel, we could get this info by simply running:
