kmod-kvm for custom CentOS 5.5 kernel
Hello all! I have actual need to build a custom kernel.(Have to change Preemption model to 'server' and turn off Preempt the big kernel lock, ect) I have heard bits and pieces about these changing defaults in newer kernels but I haven't investigated that yet. This of course is not a problem at all, made my needed changes to the source code and successfully build both the standard

system "stuck" with 2.6.18-128 kernel. how to move to 2.6.18-194.17?
Hi. I just noticed I had a CentOS 5.3 system that I updated to CentOS 5.5 a few days ago, and I just ran "yum -y update" again to get the latest kernel, and I just noticed it still has the old 2.6.18-128 kernel instead of the new 2.6.18-194.17. What gives? /etc/grub.conf points at 2.6.18-194.17, but when I reboot, 2.6.18-128 comes up. Any suggestions? Thanks, -at myserver# yum -y

adonis help - (non-parametric (permutational) manova)
I am trying to apply this technique (M.J Anderson 2001) to a dataset of aquatic insect abundances. There is a sample in the unrestored and restored segement of a stream for every time period. I would like to compare the centroids of the distance matrices for the treatments up (unrestored) and dn (restored) to see if there is a difference in insect communities between the treatments. I will not

kickstart and grub parameters
Hey list, I recently started working with kickstart. It is awesome! I really had no idea how easy it would be to use. I do have one strange issue, that's really not that important, but that I'd like to figure out. I like to watch all the kernel boot messages go by in text mode by default, and when I've set up a box in the past, I've modified grub's menu.lst file to remove

force user and NT_STATUS_INVALID_SID
Welcome everyone, I have to bother you and pick up your brains as I struggle to configure samba the way I want. It's the first time I deal with Samba4 as I'm trying to migrate boxes running on Centos 5 with Samba3 to Centos 7 with Samba4. The configuration I use works great on Samba 3 however when I use the same config on Samba4 I manage to authenticate as the user but once I want to

how to recreate eth0 - Realtek 8169sc
Hi all, Our intranet's WAN interface just stopped working yesterday, and I can't figure it out. The machine has a Gigabyte motherboard, with on-board RTL-8110SC/8169SC Gigabit Ethernet and D-Link PCI NIC for the LAN side. I can get into the LAN side without an issue, but can't see the WAN side at all. [root at intranet ~]# ifconfig eth0 up eth0: unknown interface: No such device

Bugzilla 3.6.2 + sendmail + SELinux
Hello, I have deployed Bugzilla 3.6.2 on CentOS 5 (with rpmforge perl-* packages) and I have a problem with SELinux preventing mail being sent via sendmail. (see SELinux reports below, especially the second one) When SELinux is in permissive mode, mail sending from Bugzilla is working properly. Has anybody got recent Bugzilla to work with SELinux on CentOS? Thanks in advance! Mathieu

xen randomly crashes all VMs hosted on iSCSI NAS array
I inherited a xen server that is setup to have all the VM images hosted on an iSCSI mounted NAS array. We been experiencing a random (about every 2-3 days) issue where xen would crash all the VMs, leaving nothing but the Domain0 running. What appears to be happening is something causes the iSCI mount to hiccup. Running "vgchange -a y" and restarting all the VMs brings everything up.

interactive file choosing in Linux?
I am used to using the [R] function choose.files() for interactive file selection in MS-Windows. What is the comparable function in Linux? I expected the function file.choose() to display similar behavior, i.e., a graphical interface diplaying a file listing, but all I seem to get is a "text input prompt". This does not seem correct. > file.choose() Enter file
