nfs-alpha feedback
I ran the same dd tests from KnowYourNFSAlpha-1.pdf and performance is inconsistent and causes the server to become unresponsive. My server freezes every time when I run the following command: dd if=/dev/zero of=garb bs=256k count=64000 I would also like to mount a path like: /volume/some/random/dir # mount host:/gluster/tmp /mnt/test mount: host:/gluster/tmp failed, reason given by server: No

Probably with default library tree
Hi, I just installed R on a new windows 7 machine and am having a probelm with the default libraries. The default libraries are not what I want them to be so when i say install.packages("XXX") the packages don't install where I want them to. Ideally everything would install to the same location as the base packages. When I look at my library paths I get the following. >

x86 vs. x86_64 detection proof of concept patch
Greetings all, First of all, a disclaimer: Please forgive my horrible assembly code. This is just a quick munging of code to achieve x86 versus x86_64 detection within pxelinux. So please look at it as a proof of concept and not a real piece of code. :) For example it only works on pxelinux and has no thought for extending it beyond simple x86 versus x86_64 architectures. I had the need for

fitting lots of music into 10GB with Vorbis
Hi- just wondering, what would be the best quality rating to use to fit lots of music into 10GB of HD space. The audio quality has to be high enough for it to sound good when played through PA systems (for when my college is stupid enough to forget to hire a DJ, or when the realise the DJ they always hire can't use a mixing desk properly) ranging from a functional PA system thats stuck in the

How to connect across the Internet
Hello All, Well my Samba server is up and running good, but I am now needing to be able to let some of my users connect to our server who is not located on our local network. Actually they are located some distance away and I would like to be able to allow then to connect. Has anyone had any success with this and how it might be done? Is there something missing?
Hello All, I hope that you are all doing well. I have been trying to get Samba setup and running on my Redhat 7.2 box so that users on Windows machines can login and be connected to their directory. The problem is that no matter what I try, I can see the Samba server from the Windows machine, but it keeps telling me that the password was not recognized and is the same linux password for each

OpenOffice 641c and Wine
Hello All, I am new to using wine on my Linux redhat 7.2 so please forgive the dumb questions, ok. I have been able to run a few of my Windows Applications from wine as a test, but ran into problems when I wanted to try a test and install OpenOffice 641c. I am getting messages like: ---------------------------------------------------------------- bash-2.05$ wine c:\\install\\setup Warning:

using smbadduser non-interactively
Hello All, Could someone please tell me if there is a was to use smbadduser in a non-interactive mode and just allow you to enter all of the particular user information on the command line? I need to set up a small script that will automate adding users to the smbpasswd file so that they can login. Cheers, Lonnie -- Lonnie Cumberland OutStep Technologies Incorporated EMAIL:

Zaptel Needed
Hello All, Can someone please tell me about Zaptel? Is it only needed if you are going to have an interface card like TDM400P installed on the Asterisk server? Do you really need it if you do not have the interface card? Thanks, Lonnie

Samba and Linux Passwords Backend
Hello All, I am sure that this has been asked probably a million times on this list, but for our particular setup, I need to see if there is a way to have Samba authenticate its users based upon the Linux accounts password file? The reason is that we have other applications all working together and most of them are also using the Linux password file which make the process of maintaining

RPM SPEC rebuild errors
Hello All, I have been trying all afternoon to rebuild the Samba RPM for my Fedora 3 with the MySQL passdb support and from what I can see it only needs the inclusion of "--with-expsam=mysql" in the SPEC file in addition to the regular ones. The problem is that no matter what version of Samba I try to rebuild, it always gice an error at the same place:

Booting a multi-ISO CD on a Mac.
Is this even a possibility? Both my brother and I have PPC G3 Mac's that we would like to install Linux on. I have downloaded a couple of Debian ISOs and a couple of Gentoo ISOs. All four would easily fit on a single CD. So, my question/problem is, is it possible to configure a menu to chose between them, that will boot up on a Mac PPC? Thanks, Lonnie -- Later, Lonnie Mostly Debian,

simple over view of the process
Hello All, Please forgive the lack of understanding as of yet but I have been trying to follow the mailing list messages over the last few days and would like to know if someone could wither point me into the right direction or possibly give me a brief overview of the complete process. Basically, I see that the Asterisk PBX systems can run on linux and seems to offer the engine base that is

Asterisk and SER differences
Hello All, I have been trying to do a lot of reading lately on the Asterisk project, and I would like to know of someone could tell me mor about the PRO's and CON's between ASTERISK and SER? I have heard that some people use them both in a particular VoIP design and I would like to try and understand why you might want to do that along with how the two can work totegher and communicate.

filtering user files
Hello all, I think that this is probably an easy question so I hope that I will be able to get a quick response. In our users directories, there are a number of "dot" files and folders and I was wondering if there was a way to tell Samba not to show them when a user is in their directory? Maybe some sort of file filter perhaps. thanks Lonnie

dynamic adding of nodes
Thanks Guus for answering all of these many emails. I now had a question as to if it is possible for something like this. Suppose that you have a Tinc VPN network made up of 4 nodes (A, B, C, D) and you want to dynamically add new nodes (E, F). How can this be done without having to re-start all of the nodes A-D? Based upon what I can see, each node condifuration files need to be modified

Binding to Tun0 device
Hello all, We have a few aliased Ethernet addresses on our server and if I do not use the Bind statement in the "Global" section then the NMBD seems to try to bind to all of the addresses. We are actually using OpenVPN which make the connections just fine on a 172.16.x.x subnet to "tun0" device. The problem is that Samba does not seem to find the tun0 device and reports
