What steps to take
Hi list
I'm attempting to list windows shared printers in Unix. That's really all
that I need and I can't install Samba on the machine I need to list the
shared printers from. I started analyzing the smbclient code hoping to
extract the necessary info but as you all know it's a daunting task.
Certainly for a C novice.
Which is why I want to ask if there is anyone out there who

Annoying license at install
Folks
I have several remotely-located servers, donated by folks not all of
whom are computer geeks, let-alone Linux aware. In earlier versions
of Centos, I directed them to perform a minimal NetInstall (not too
difficult to direct over the phone), and then issue two commands
after the first boot. One was a 'curl' to download a script of mine,
and the second was a dot-command to run

necessary/unused rpm packages
Is there a way to identify if an rpm package is unused, or how much it is
used?
I would like to reduce my load time by removing unused packages in my
kickstart, but do not want to cause problems for users on active systems by
guessing which ones are not necessary (I load everything with kickstart
now). If I could find the packages are not used I could start by excluding
them from a load and be

CentOS 6.4 x86_64 VM Install freezes
I am trying to install a CentOS 6.4 x86_64 VM using a CentOS 5.9 x86_64
host, but its install has froze *twice*. What I am doing is to create a
10gig LVM volume, which I put a MS-DOS partition table on (using fdisk).
I then format the only partition to ext3, install grub and install the
pxeboot kernel and initrd.img and a simple grub.conf to load this.
I have the CentOS 6.4 x86_64 ISOs mounted

Hi Experts,
We have a 4nodes RAC running and recently one is down due to hardware
(fibre optics card) failure. Since running on 3-nodes RAC, the surviving
server just keep crashing. We cannot figure out why is this happening
but checking /var/log/messages we have these error (notice the msg
before crashing at 8:32):

true, i did not say how i created cd's.
i used k3b as it is easier, less to remember, than using command line.
usb's sticks were created using unetbootin and fedora-liveusb-creator.
yes, i did not mention that i tried with 2 usb sticks. failure was
same, did not feel it mattered. failure is

Re: install issues
Are you trying to install the 64-bit or the 32-bit?
While the install is running, some of the other virtual consoles display
logs and error information. What do those show when the install rejects your
disk?
What result did you get trying from the HTTP install?

Re: install issues
Yep. Just grab the 'netinstall' iso file and burn it. (It's about 7mb)

how to install Linux on an IBM xserver 335 server without graphics card?
Hi All,
I recently got some IBM Xseries 335 servers 2nd hand, and noticed they
don't have any graphics card. Some google searched indicate they only
have an uplink port, which you could connect to another (other model)
IBM server and use that as the head node. But, I don't have one
available.
It has 2x GB NIC's, and what looks like a management port, but I can't
figure out how to

Netinstall wants to use wlan0
Hi, Folks --
I'm setting up an Acer Aspire 5250 as a Christmas gift, CentOS 6 netinstall
insists on trying to configure wlan0 but I'm using a wired DSL connection,
consequently netinstall fails and only offers the option to Retry.
How can I get it to bypass the wlan0 idea and go straight to eth0...?
Thanks,

"installation source" specification for netinstall
Trying to specify the "installation source" in the configuration of
netinstall for centos 7 (7.1). Three places on the web said
mirror.centos.org/centos/7/os/x86_64/
But that configuration page probes, then it says, "Error setting up base
repository".
What's the magic needed?
Also, if anyone knows specs for epel and others, they might help too.
Thanks.
