compaq v2000 working with correct boot options and compaq r4000 still SLOWWW
Hi,
I have a v2000 compaq laptop. The realtek network and USB on this
machine was not working. After adding to grub.conf
"acpi=off apci=off noacpi noapic"
the v2000 realtek started working and the USB worked fine... Fantastic!
So I thought I would try those same options on my r4000 laptop.

kvm module and boot order
I use kvm-amd a lot to do test installs.
I am using it with qemu-kvm-0.14 the lastest.
I think your supposed to be able to give your command line
and add the parameter " -boot dc" so it initially boots with the cdrom (d)
and then after reboot will boot do the HD or c. This never works for me.
It always boots CDROM.
Is anyone using this argument. Is there something special to do in

howto use kvm-amd on centos 5.1
Is there a way to use kvm-amd on centos 5.1?
I dont want to mess with XEN. I want the hardware virtualization that is
on my AMD chip.
I played with putting 2.6.24 and centos 5.1 on my AMD laptop, got
kvm-amd and that works. However
I want to put this on my desktop that is running 2.6.18-53.1.14.el5. Is
there a way or do I just
wave to use 2.6.24 or 25.
Thanks,
Jerry

performance lost in using a software raid array with only 1 disk
Is there any performance lost in using a software raid array
with only 1 disk?
I was wanting to use the mdadm monitoring tools to monitor the
machines single disk drive for failures and such. Is there any
performance hit for such a setup?
Some machines have RAID some machines dont (for me) and
I was thinking about a common setup.
Also then if I want in the future I can actually just add the

Both is a problem. There's no practical way for an installer to
support both.

using kvm
All - I am running a virtual windows 7 (pro 64) on centos 5.5 x86_64.
I was hoping to run virtual XP inside windows7 in this configuration.
I get an error about cannot start virtual XP when I try this.
Do I not have something setup correctly or can I not run a "double"
virtual environment?

time command with options
I am trying to get timing paramters from a CGI program.
date is just a command for example used here.
when I do: time { date; }
everything is good.
when I do: time -o file { date; }
I get
time -o file { date; }
bash: syntax error near unexpected token `}'
How do I correctly issue the command with an option
for -o file to output the data to a file.

slowness in sendmail - 60 second timeout
I am sending an email from my machine devcentos5x64.

The email succeeds - but I am trying to figure out the 60 second delay.
Neither email server is busy. Nothing is waiting.
the DNS on both machines point to the same nameserver. The DNS
