Patch to fix the 255 status code problem
Hi,
Currently using openssh-4.5p1 on Solaris 8 in conjunction with Oracle 8i
dataguard. Is there a patch available to prevent ssh returning status
code 255 for a successful execution of a remote connection/command.
Many Thanks,

Lost Sound after Firefox crash
My Firefox crashed and I lost sound, is there a way to release the lock
Firefox had on sound when it crashed?
I was streaming sirius radio at the time of the crash.
Is there a daemon I can restart? I could just reboot but I'm not windows
admin :)
I logged out of the GUI then back in, would restarting X clear it up?

the settings do not update.

prevent runaway PID taking down server (RAM/swap)
Is there a way I can prevent processes from taking up all the ram then swap
until the box crashes/freezes?
I'm using IEs4Linux and the wineserver seems to start taking up RAM until my
box dies, it happens slowly.
I am able to kill the sucker now, but I'd like to not have to worry about
that.

Debugging system load - How to start?
Hi,
we run an "old" mailserver system which was set up a couple of years
ago. The systme dose "everything" what we need(ed). Over the last days I
noticed an unnormal increase of the system load up to 10 and lots of
users told me that there mailclient connections (sending and receiving)
are dropped from time to time.
I was planing to exchange the server respectively distribut

gfs2 and quotas - system crash
I have tried sending this before, but it did not appear to get through.
Hello,
When using gfs2 with quotas on a SAN that is providing storage to two
clustered systems running CentOS6.5, one of the systems
can crash. This crash appears to be caused when a user tries
to add something to a SAN disk when they have exceeded their
quota on that disk. Sometimes a stack trace is produced in

Finding i/o bottleneck
Hi list !
We have a very busy webserver hosted in a clustered environment where the
document root and data is on a GFS2 partition off a fiber-attached disk
array.
Now on busy moments, I can see in htop, nmon that there is a fair percentage
of cpu that is waiting for I/O. In nmon, I can spot that the most busy block
device correspond to our gfs2 partition where many times, it shows that

Progressively worsening unresponsiveness
Hello all, I'm new to the list, and hoping someone can point me in the
right direction.
I've got an Ubuntu 14 dom0 with, what I think, are excellent specs. 12
cores, hyperthreaded, VT, 64GB RAM, gobs of disk, etc... all to run 8
virtual machines (at the moment).
My problem is each of the guests - Windows, Ubuntu, FreeBSD, starts out
working fine. After several minutes, the guest

Switching to another Samba server
I've been running Samba 2.2.2 for a while as a domain controller on my
mostly Windows network. It's been working great up to this point.
Anyway, I just put together a new Linux server and installed 2.2.2 on it
as well.
I copied the conf file and pretty much mirrored everything on the
existing server, changed the paths and the "workgroup" field in the conf
file to match the new

Health Monitoring
Hey,
I am looking for healt monitoring software for my centos5.1 box. Nothing
crazy (like nagios), just something that records memory/cpu usage every min
to 5 mins.
I added some vmware stuff and was looking to see when if swap gets used and
cpu spikes.

3.0.21c: idmap_rid segfaults on AIX 5.3 ML4
Hi everyone,
I'm trying to use idmap_rid on an AIX 5.3 ML4 machine. Samba compiled
successfully using the IBM compiler (vac.C) version 6. The only
programs I supplied where db and libiconv.
I followed the instructions, and put nsswitch/WINBIND in /usr/lib/security,
and edited /usr/lib/security/methods.cfg.
When I start "winbindd -i", it coredumps with a Signal 11:

Subsetting a data.frame degenerates at one column?
Greetings.
At the moment, I'm applying R to some AIX 'nmon' output, trying to get
a handle on some disk performance metrics. In case anyone's
interested:
http://docs.osg.ufl.edu/tsm/pdf/
some of them are more edifying than others. (ahem)
I'm trying to develop a somewhat general framework for plotting these
measures, in the hopes that it's of some use to people other
